Clotted cream

No clotted cream in our local M&S left today 🙈 my scones will have to have butter on them tomorrow. Think M&S should have foreseen mad rush for clotted cream and stocked up. Devastated. AIBU? The only other local shop I have is Aldi so will walk with baby and try them later.

DH was up early doors to go into town to make sure he got some clotted cream for our party tomorrow. He said most of the people in the queue at M&S were there for the same thing!

Flipflopblowout · 02/06/2022 13:47

No chance that you could have foreseen that there would be a high demand for clotted cream and bought it a day early?

xsquared · 02/06/2022 13:48

I sent dh for some yesterday at around 7om and they'd sold out then.

I looked in Sainsbury's, M&S, Lidl and Co Op and they had all sold out. Everyone had the same idea, and beat us to it.

MissPocket · 02/06/2022 13:51

I got some in Waitrose yesterday. Aldi, Sainsbury's and Asda all sold out.

OxanaVorontsova · 02/06/2022 13:52

Ours was delivered with the rest of the shopping on Tuesday. No scones in the shopping though, homemade are so much better.

RampantIvy · 02/06/2022 13:59

Tesco was out of clotted cream on Monday, so I bought double cream. There was no double or clotted cream today.

Meraas · 02/06/2022 14:19

DH got the very last 2 tubs in Tesco (the man had to go out back for them).

We only needed one tub but when DH found out they were the last, he got both 🙄

meltypuff · 02/06/2022 14:20

Can't believe people are getting judgy about whether people are having homemade scones or not 😂

For what it's worth I'm making homemade - do I get a medal?

No chance that you could have foreseen that someone else might have already said that and RTFT before posting?

I'm intrigued by the idea of making clotted cream, might have to give that a try. I quite like a mixture of mascarpone and whipped double cream in a pinch, personally.

HumbugWhale · 02/06/2022 14:27

Same problem here. Tesco didn't have any in my online order on Tuesday. Have since been in 3 other supermarkets, even Waitrose didn't have any!

Jas5mum · 02/06/2022 14:28

I was thinking this would happen tbh
My mum is making me some scones so hope she's got the jam and cream too.
I live 5mins from the roddas factory so would probably go up there if I couldn't get any in the shops. Will be cheaper at aldi anyway 😉

lightand · 02/06/2022 14:29

They never have it in mine

I've got a Sainsbury's delivery later, the only thing that they can't send me is carrots. I ordered loose and apparently I ticket the no substitutions so I have no carrots.

Not quite as serious as clotted cream.

I popped into Lidl earlier to get some fresh bread (we have people staying and have got through alot) and it was like the mad Christmas shop. Empty shelves and crowded with shoppers. I don't think supermarkets are even closed over the weekend are they so not sure what the panic is all about.

Sainsburys has converted EVERYTHING to “no substitutions” now, unless you actually go to the substitutions page and un-tick the box for each item. It’s maddening. My order turned up with so much missing.

Only if you bake your own clotted cream, have homemade strawberry jam and put them on the scone in the correct order....

Was shopping in Aldi yesterday, grabbed some scones - got to the fridge for some Clotted Cream but the shelf was empty :(
Asked a member of staff who said that they had ran out, and had to go with a can of squirty cream instead lol.

VestaTilley · 02/06/2022 14:35

Agree! None available in our nearby massive Sainsbury’s either!

FirstAidKitNowPlease · 02/06/2022 14:37

It would have to be cold butter and jam in the absence of clotted cream.

Other cream types aren't in any way acceptable!

Which is?........

I do know, but it's always fun to start the healthy debate 😜

Clotted cream has very long dates. Seems unwise to wait until the actual Jubilee BH to try and get some knowing that's pretty much what everyone else will be doing.
I bet there's people still looking for bunting too...

Why thank you! TBF I never bought any bunting, but the clotted cream is in the fridge. Go me. Grin

Can’t believe there are people on this thread saying that whipping up double cream, or using - god forbid - squirty cream, would be an acceptable substitute for clotted cream.
Clotted cream has a completely different taste, weight and texture to other types of cream.
Don’t get me wrong - all cream is good cream, but clotted cream is in a league of its own and should never ever be substituted for, especially when scones are involved.
Better to throw your scones in the bin.

I’m glad I’m not the only one who was aghast at that.
Whipped double at a pinch, but squirty cream in a can? Who are you people?

LadyGardenersQuestionTime · 02/06/2022 15:04

Double or squirty cream as a substitute for clotted😱? My judgy pants are hoiked up to my clutched pearls. I'll have to go and lie down for a bit...

Sparklingbrook · 02/06/2022 15:05

Squirty cream has it's place but it's not in a cream tea.

SiobhanSharpe · 02/06/2022 12:55

Deliveroo groceries? If you can add enough items for the minimum order.
(you could have stocked up -- it lasts for ages)
But I feel your pain - seems ocado have substituted my order of M and S meringue nests today for vastly more expensive ones. I'll take them as I agreed to make Eton Mess desserts for a jubilee barbecue.

OP will probably struggle to get it anywhere. I have seen FB posts today of people having to travel around to get some.
