Clotted cream

No clotted cream in our local M&S left today 🙈 my scones will have to have butter on them tomorrow. Think M&S should have foreseen mad rush for clotted cream and stocked up. Devastated. AIBU? The only other local shop I have is Aldi so will walk with baby and try them later.

Clotted cream has very long dates. Seems unwise to wait until the actual Jubilee BH to try and get some knowing that's pretty much what everyone else will be doing.
I bet there's people still looking for bunting too...

I just used what I already had, stuck it up last night, didn't take long at all.

Ofcourse, Clotted Cream is the ultimate Scone companion, and nothing will beat it.
But... If there's no Clotted Cream left, I'd still rather have Scones with Squirty Cream than no Scones at all!

Lol, I saw that on a local FB spotted page last night and I think they were trying to pass it off as their own work. Shock Grin

I'd just not bother with the cream tea, than use squirty. It's too wet.

Which is?........

Well done for trying both of you. I came here fully expecting WW3 about the order of the jam and cream. It's a contentious issue in Wanda household!

I'm not entirely sure which day the cream tea is supposed to be produced but it's dated use by 15/6.

😂Shocking. Was a bit windy here last night and don't think the neighbours were happy with it banging off the wall all night.😉

meltypuff · 02/06/2022 15:15

Sorry I have people over for tea tomorrow but I guess it could be used any day!

None in Sainsbury's today either. It's a travesty!

Cheerybigbottom · 02/06/2022 15:20

I already ate the clotted cream I bought for jubilee lunch! ordered more but same troubles! Have changed scones to cheese scones because you can't have a fruity scone without clotted cream Sad

woopdedoodle · 02/06/2022 15:20

We've had to send the family off on a picnic with the emergency squirty cream for their scones, I love these totally trivial problems, otoh , I've just discovered my d-in-l puts the cream on first and I'm considering going non contact.

But seriously isn't it like trying to get a Christmas cake on Christmas Eve or something? Or an Easter Egg on Good Friday when they've been in the shops since about February? This Jubilee has been on the calendar a long time hasn't it?

My friend's order arrived this morning MINUS the SCONES Shock

Nightmare.

She can make her own with very basic store cupboard ingredients!

AlexCabot · 02/06/2022 15:37

I work in Lidl. Unloaded six trays of clotted cream at 7, doors opened at 8 and they were all gone by 9.
Spent the hours of 9-1 being shouted at because there was no clotted cream.

NeedAHoliday2021 · 02/06/2022 15:44

No clotted cream anywhere here either. I have lots of scones so will have to use butter. Gutted 😂

Barkingmadhouse · 02/06/2022 15:55

I went to 4 stores last night looking for clotted cream. I still dont have any! 😩

Sahara123 · 02/06/2022 16:05

My local deli type shop has clotted cream in a jar , sort of pasteurised. I tried it once just to see , it’s horrible. What a travesty. Proper Devon girl me .

Dashdotdotdash · 02/06/2022 16:06

You can also make cream by mixing whole milk and unsalted butter in the proportion 2:1.

yesthatisdrizzle · 02/06/2022 16:06

I couldn't be bothered with the scones, we just have strawberries and cream.

easyday · 02/06/2022 16:07

I got some clotted cream at local Sainsburys but they only had fruited scones! I like plain (I'll just have to pick the currants out...). I did have an Ocado delivery but they had no scones or clotted cream available.

msbevvy · 02/06/2022 16:17

I think everyone is being unreasonable for only having clotted cream and scones for "special" occasions. It is an everyday food in our family.

thefemaleJoshLyman · 02/06/2022 16:25

You could use marscapone as a clotted cream alternative? I've been to three supermarkets this afternoon - no clotted cream, managed to get some double cream but tesco was wiped out of all cream!

BarbaraofSeville · 02/06/2022 16:37

There should have been a trigger warning for the suggestions of using whipped or squirty cream as a substitute. Some of us suffer PTSD due to previously suffering that sort of trauma.

Fortunately I got the last tub in Morrisons this morning. I was in there because their square scones are the only shop bought ones that are edible and I wanted those too.
