Oh sorry. Think I completely misread which texts you are referring too there.

That’s ok! I was just pointing out how difficult it can be for the jury if text excerpts are used as evidence. Something said in genuine (extremely distasteful) jest could be interpreted, incorrectly, as a literal statement of violence.

unctuousunicorns1 · 01/06/2022 19:18

FWIW I'm here too.

TiddyTidTwo · 01/06/2022 19:19

Bouls I believe they can't leave someone destitute. They have to allow for living costs

Also I think Elon will ensure the child is looked after (if it's his)

Yes I read she bought the Joshua tree property through the trust which her accountant is the trustee? So if true, she has a decent home.

I really hope Amber comes out of it okay. I didn’t want her to win at first but something shifted and I really feel for her now.

TiddyTidTwo · 01/06/2022 19:21

UPDATE: "Due to previously scheduled work commitments made before the trial, Mr. Depp will not be physically present for today's 3pm verdict and will be watching from the United Kingdom." - source close to #JohnnyDepp v. #AmberHeard @LawCrimeNetwork

Midlifemusings · 01/06/2022 19:23

Oh wow, just saw this. Faster than I thought.

I don't think damages awarded will be very high on either side.

It is so hard to know how it will go - seven random people. If you randomly took seven people off this board - it could go in any direction! And they have to be unanimous for a win (for Depp or Heard) on their suits. Given how fast they came back I am guessing they must have been collectively leaning more one way than the other.

Winning when it comes to court / legal matters should be about truth and fact - not about feelings. You can feel however you want for her but that shouldn't change your view of what the outcome should be.

Ithoughtsummerwascoming · 01/06/2022 18:59

I feel so sorry for them both.
The extent of trawling over their mental states, intimate details of their lives.
What if Johnny was simply not an addict? I strongly suspect they would have a family by now. I also suspect Amber became more of a matron figure because she was trying to keep him clean and she thought he wanted that.

Unfortunately,he loved his addictions more.

I think this too. It's sad. He seems like two different people almost. And I know she wasn't easy but it must have been incredibly stressful to cope with that.

mummyrocks1 · 01/06/2022 19:32

I do kind of wish they were both there for the verdict. It would have been very interesting to have seen their reactions and would have revealed a lot.

*She could be ‘fronting’ it for her friend, pretending all is hunkydory by hamming it up with him. Those texts could be read in many ways, I can imagine many people I know talking like this (extreme sarcasm) in an effort to be funny and smart. It’s definitely not damning as far as concrete evidence goes…

That’s why I find the dry legal aspect to this case so interesting, it really shows up what can counts as strong evidence, and what will be seen as conjecture.

It is far too common that the media present conjecture as evidence, which is then pounced upon by the public as ‘proof’.*

I really sincerely hope you aren't referring to the texts he has sent repeatedly about burning Amber and other serious texts about women. There is absolutely no justification for those ever.

The law takes a completely different view.

The law doesn't take a different view. They weren't sent to her, they weren't sent with malice, they weren't a threat, they weren't sent to an unwelcoming recipient, they weren't a plot to actually carry out these acts. He explained they were his dark sense of humour and were inspired by/a reference to Monty Python, as him and his friend would often do. Whether you choose to believe that is up to you, but it is not against the law to text your mate things like that in private.

minou123 · 01/06/2022 19:35

I'm sure I heard on Law & Crime AH will be there, but TiddyTidTwo heard differently.

We shall see.....

TiddyTidTwo · 01/06/2022 19:35

Mummy I expect the judge prefers it this way, less of a media frenzied circus around the court.

TiddyTidTwo · 01/06/2022 19:36

Minou mixed signals I'm reading now. Guess we will find out soon enough!

Pretty much everyone I have seen speaking about JD have had nothing but positive things to say about him and what a nice guy he was. One of his co-stars even commented on an Independent article to say when he worked with him on one of the Pirates movies he was always punctual and unlike a lot of other stars, made a lot of time for the rest of the cast (he was genuine, I checked).

I'm not going to judge him on some potty mouthed texts that he probably sent in anger and whilst under the influence, and I do believe he has a dark sense of humour and way of expressing himself to those close. Personally, I don't think it is fair to judge a persons whole character on private words spoken at what I would imagine was one of the lowest points in his life. I will add that the same goes for those texts between AH and Josh, they could also be interpreted as a dark sense of humour between friends.

The fact so many people, including several ex partners have spoken up in his defence speaks volumes to me.

I have no idea what the verdict will be, but hope they can both move on afterwards.

Unbelievable. You aren't going to judge him for those terrible texts and the way he talks about women, not just AH. We have all probably sent texts in anger but this isn't a one off and they aren't all sent in anger. I don't think in anger there are many people who have spoken like that. He shows himself to really hate women and have no respect for them. Imagine he was talking like that about your daughter/sister/wife etc. I expect he would not be happy if that was his own daughter being talked about like that. No wonder Disney want nothing to do with him.

Your bar is very low. I hope others don't think like that.

There are cars pulling up......could just be the lawyers

@minou123 I was thinking it could be the lawyers too

Can lawyers object to verdict? Hearsay! Foundation! Leading! Compound!

ENoeuf · 01/06/2022 19:41

I think he will win on the last one, and she will win on being safe from any further action from him and on minimal damages.

Even if she does win I think more importantly she has lost out in the public opinion and will struggle to work after this.
