To think that they can’t be annoyed with me over this and should have checked with me first?

We have just bought a new house and family members who do decorating as a job are doing the renovation work in there.

In one room there is a feature wall and the rest of the walls painted. I said that I wanted a grey paint but because they hadn’t got round to that room yet I hadn’t specified what kind of grey that I wanted - they usually video call me when they are in the shops purchasing the stuff so I can choose what colours I want etc.

So I speak to them yesterday and they said they have started decorating this room and I questioned it because we hadn’t chosen the paint yet and they basically said they had already got the paint - without asking or letting me know. So I ask to see the paint because I didn’t want it too light because in my experience as soon as the kids knock the wall it marks.

They send me a photo of the paint and it’s completely the wrong shade - it looks more white than grey and the reviews on the website state it’s a really light colour too. I explain that the colour is wrong and I wished they had asked me first because now they will have to return it.

They are the ones now annoyed with me and say I’m being too picky and they are annoyed about having to go back to the shop, but my point is this is my house and they shouldn’t have just chosen for me without asking me first.

Who is being unreasonable here?

I take that back. You sound like you’ve been drinking. This is so funny. OP, ignore

Johnnysgirl · 24/05/2022 19:01

Sounds like she's been drinking? Confused
You're being very odd @Comefromaway

Comefromaway · 24/05/2022 19:07

Yes, people tend to write nonsense when they’ve been drinking.

Johnnysgirl · 24/05/2022 19:12

Well, you called her unhinged and bitter! Have you been drinking?

Comefromaway · 24/05/2022 19:48

Considering at least one of wouldya’s posts have been removed (I & several others reported it) for a totally unwarranted personal attack on the OP) and each subsequent post has been deliberately inflammatory ………..

Ah. I missed that.

Wouldyabeguilty · 24/05/2022 20:04

Nope I told her she was being a CF for a. Getting someone to paint her house for nothing and then complain about it and b. Being snippy with every single person who disagreed with her.
She actually sounded a lot like you come to think of it !!

SolasAnla · 24/05/2022 20:05

They are spending 2 painters wages by how many days?? £1k £2k...
And you have not picked the paint out for each room so one of them has to spend more time going back to get more paint.

You are in CF land and digging in hard.

The minimum you could have done is have decided on the materials before the job is started and as most places allow click and collect they should not even have to front the money for the paint.

@Johnnysgirl yes, but just because a post has been removed because the OP (any OP you understand, not necessarily this one), and a couple of other PP's somehow seem incapable of understanding that they are being unreasonable, and can't understand basic logic and politeness, and almost certainly fib about their gratitude and whether the people they are complaining about, do in fact know how grateful an OP is,

(and even though everything else an OP has said, and the OP's sniping at any and everyone who doesn't agree with "insert appropriate pronoun here", suggests that the victim(s) of an OP's rage, entitlement, obvious actual dislike of, and really hardly any, or no gratitude for the victim(s) massive amount of time spent on, and therefore £££ (probably in their thousands) loss of revenue from elsewhere)

does not mean that privately, at least, some of the members of the MNHQ team, don't actually disagree with the naughty people who call out an OP's behaviour in a way that on any other subject can be used freely! eg we can all say "fuck", "cunt"
"Putin is a fucking psycho" and that is ok, because Putin is (probably) not a Mumsnetter.

But I am sure if he was, and he started a post about how he was going to annihilate England in one small press of a button because he didn't think we were playing fairly (even though he was well known for promising something, and then - sometimes even within a couple of hours - breaking that promise), MNHQ would indeed have to delete the person's post that spoke about Putin being a "fucking psycho" even though all of MNHQ's team secretly agreed with them! Unfortunately MNHQ have to delete any post if it goes against their rules.

So @Johnnysgirl please don't judge the deleted poster's comment on the say so of another poster who seems to share many of the attributes of the OP for this thread.
@Comefromaway called @Wouldyabeguilty 's post "totally unwarranted", where IMO it was both very understandable, and completely "warranted".

Sure, I won't.
I'm pretty sure MNHQ delete on demand, anyway, I've seen some very bland, innocuous posts deleted just because they were reported.

Your post was entirely reasonable! It's been a great AIBU thread though, and thanks @NetflixMom21 for the entertainment Grin

Three weeks working 10-6 to paint two rooms in a new build??

Probably because of the dithering choosing paint colours... 😉

Bintymcbintface · 25/05/2022 12:41

So these people are saving you hundreds and putting in hours of free labour and you're being arsey over slightly the wrong shade... Nice, wouldn't be doing favours for you again

Murdoch1949 · 26/05/2022 05:21

You're not being unreasonable at all. Your house, your choice of colours. Just because your relatives are being helpful & painting for you doesn't mean they can do what they want. Posters saying you should put up with it as it's a freebie are deluded. I avoid people doing me favours as it is difficult if their work is substandard. I hope you get it sorted, they sound like nice relatives.
