while the PM was partying.....?

OP posts:
GrandTheftWalrus · 24/05/2022 16:48

Getting ready for my nightshift at the temporary hospital they had set up in my area.

Aaaabbbcccc · 24/05/2022 17:03

The hilarious thing is that none of the Labour operatives on this thread can confront the fact that Kier did EXACTLY THE SAME THING AND LABOUR LIED ABOUT. But that would get in the way of a good anti Conservative story. I am a life long labour voter - labour have utterly lost their way and I fear for a world where they might take power again. I, like many, could not care less what happened at No 10. In any event, even if Labour had been in power all indications are that they would have done exactly the same thing. Move on to real issues.

Aaaabbbcccc · 24/05/2022 17:04

The way that Labour went on and on about Partygate knowing their hypocrisy really says it all

MarmaladeToastAndAMarmaladeCat · 24/05/2022 17:07

I was isolating as my 2 and 3 year olds and I had been in contact with a case. We had to isolate for 2 weeks at that point. I then had one day of freedom and had to isolate for another 2 weeks prior to an operation. 4 weeks isolation with 2 toddlers.

Iwantmyoldnameback · 24/05/2022 17:08

We were locked down to save Christmas. Not surprising it failed is it.

Even being generous, the stories coming out of No.10 waaaaaay exceed the Labour accusation (which, lest we forget, hasn’t even been proven yet). As far as we know Angela Raynor wasn’t sitting on anyone’s knee, Kier wasn’t necking a suitcase full of beer and they weren’t boogie-ing to “Dancing Queen”.

Kier’s also stated, if he’s fined, he will resign. Which is more than Boris is willing to do.

Fairislefandango · 24/05/2022 17:12

I have no idea, and I don't care what I was doing. But I do care what the PM was doing. People in charge of making the rules should damn well stick to them. And if they are caught breaking them, they should resign.

FourTeaFallOut · 24/05/2022 17:14

I was just relieved the kids could still go to school and that we got a trip away in the half term holidays before my area went into a quasi-lockdown.

PS: nor am I a “Labour operative”. I’ve been a floating voter all my life. If we’re going to get conspiratorial about it all, you could easily be accused of being a “Tory operative”. It’s quite frankly just as proveable (or not) as you claiming I or other posters are.

SchrodingersKitty · 24/05/2022 17:35

Still in shock from the death of my husband two months earlier.

SueSaid · 24/05/2022 17:37

'People who were there, yes. People who were fined, yes. Is there a problem with that?'

Just prefer names tbh. Insiders is up there with 'sources' isn't it or ex employees like Cummings with an axe to grind.

Let's see what Gray says before lists of what happened shall we.

TeaAndChoccie · 24/05/2022 17:40

Awww... Some of the stories on this thread are so so sad 😞 sending big hugs.💐

Reading this thread makes me even more angry with the leadership. You make the rules, you stick to them. It should not be one rule for the elite and another for the masses.

Ahhh yes... let's wait for the Sue Gray report lol. How many times have we heard that?!

You won't have to wait too long. Tomorrow in fact. But after PMQ's of course. Then your Dear Leader is rallying his MPs and then facing the 1922 committee at 5pm.

Busy day.

A Panorama is investigation will be airing in half an hour, in fact, with more details. Should be interesting.

Well quite but I believe the police have only just completed their 'investigation'. Gray's report may be more factual than your list of what 'somebody' said that is all.

I say 'may' but as a Labour activist was allegedly advising who knows! Perhaps Paul Brand was in on it too. Then they wonder why people keep saying ffs change the record, they were at work.

Dear God, with all the “Labour activists”… we’re entering Putin-esque “Ukrainian Nazis are fooling you all” levels now.

Binsk · 24/05/2022 19:02

If they were so definitely at work (funny how a random on MN seems so certain they were, but is laughing at those who don't think he was), perhaps we should worry that our PM is happy to drink on the job? I certainly don't sip a glass of champagne while working!

Aaaabbbcccc · 24/05/2022 19:34

@TossCointoYerWitcher I can assure you I am a life long Labour voter. Do I need a J Corbyn Forever tattoo? This is why I no longer vote Labour - it’s supporters lack any perspective and cannot admit of different views. I don’t care how many beers Kier drank and whether Angela sat on someone’s lap (not a very feminist comment of you by the way) the point is everyone was doing it so it can hardly be used as a platform for left wing outrage. Somewhat contradictory to say that the matter should be regarded in absolutes - any breach is unacceptable but then Kier’s and Angela’s breaches are not as bad as others so should be excused. The only conclusion can be that you are an active labour member and have an agenda.

Hahaha… yeah ‘course that’s the only conclusion. You got me. In fact everyone who’s pissed off with Boris in this thread is a Labour activist, didn’t you know? In fact Mumsnet’s actually run by Jeremy Corbyn and Diane Abbot! That’s the only reason this thread exists. It’s all a secret plot to infiltrate parent’s brains across the globe. SSH! Don’t let anyone know!

SueSaid · 24/05/2022 20:50

Well tbf anyone who isn't pissed off with Boris is apparently a Tory bot, shill, fangirl etc etc etc.

nancy75 · 24/05/2022 20:54

If Bojo is innocent & not worried, why has he got Grant Shapps on the telly trying to excuse the drinking by mentioning that Boris’ mum had died?
It really is the most extraordinary defence, especially when you consider his mum was very much alive at the time & didn’t die until 10 months later.
These people are just taking the piss out of us & more fool anyone defending them for it.

Lex345 · 24/05/2022 21:13

I was working in a COVID designated unit. It was rough.

It doesn't make me angrier about the PM breaking the law. I just don't think it is appropriate for the prime minister to be in office having broken the law. That could be any law. He is meant to be an ambassador and representative of the British people. I am struggling to see how we have got to the state where this man (although I admit, oddly endearing) is the PM of GB. I feel like it is making a laughing stock of the entire country and politics.

I remember when HoC live was so, so boring. It is certainly livelier now, but most of the time it feels like Jeremy Kyle meets Spitting Image.

balalake · 24/05/2022 21:45

I learnt nothing from the Panorama programme. Broadcast on BBC2 so a small audience no doubt.

In political theory along the lines of Machiavelli thought, sometimes it's better to be seen as unpredictable, or a clown etc, as it tends to give the opponents a boost in confidence of their plans which gives them over confidence, as least that's one aspect I read.

Interesting-I do agree that it is intentional, he is clearly an intelligent man. It is just there is a time and a place. I think I preferred it when politics were dull to be honest.
