while the PM was partying.....?

OP posts:
Malbecfan · 24/05/2022 10:12

I was teaching in person, but in a normal classroom rather than my music room, with all kids sitting in the same places at tables facing the front. No practical activities were allowed. I had to double-plan everything so that those who were off with Covid could join in via a Teams call if they were well enough. I always ran my choir on Fridays prior to March 2020 but we weren't allowed to run any extra-curricular ensembles, so as it was a Friday, I probably stayed in my classroom or a practice room and ate my packed lunch alone as we were only allowed to grab a drink from the staff room and not linger in there. As soon as I finished teaching, I went straight home. I probably had a G&T pre-dinner with DDad and DH as it was Friday.

It was a Sunday, so I guess I was working in the morning and doing Sunday Roast for my fella .. no family guests.

No, it was a Friday!

Crankley · 24/05/2022 10:17

They all worked together, every day and I really don't care if on one day they passed drinks to each other rather than pieces of paper.

Aren't you bored with this yet?

Roussette · 24/05/2022 10:27

How do you know they all worked together?

Apparently not, from what I've read.

We should be bored, should we? Personally I prefer a prime minister who doesn't lie, who hasn't broken the law and who isn't under investigation by the Select Committe, but there you go... I'm just a bit fussy obviously

TooBigForMyBoots · 24/05/2022 10:27

Women of Mumsnet, the Tory party don't care. The Tory party faithful here don't care. When someone tells you who they are, you should listen.

THE CONSERVATIVE PARTY DON'T CARE ABOUT ANYONE BUT THEMSELVES!

SueSaid · 24/05/2022 11:07

'Women of Mumsnet, the Tory party don't care. The Tory party faithful here don't care. When someone tells you who they are, you should listen.'

Oh stop it. The hysteria on mn and twitter is almost amusing. In real life folk understand comparing workplace interactions to the social restrictions is just stupid.

postbabyfitness · 24/05/2022 11:18

I was 18 weeks pregnant and looking forward to my scan to find out DD's sex - was delighted when told she was a girl 😁

Ninjasan · 24/05/2022 11:20

At work, in the office with everyone else because we never worked from home. We probably had drinks after work there too as we all were spending so much time together anyway. No everyone could hide indoors working from home or enjoying furlough.
I really don't understand hysteria around a few drinks with people you spent most of the time anyway.

'That's what your god stated over and over again.'

My 'god'?! Hey, he isn't my 'god' <wtf> but in 2019 we had little choice on who to vote for as Labour had a blithering idiot in charge.

They were at work. Work meetings to say someone is leaving? Meh.

If he was at work then why weren't the others in attendance who were fined at work?

And I used god because he preach his righteousness rather a lot for someone who apparently only voted for him because Labour had a shit candidate.

Fwiw - I did too for the same reasons. But I feel horrendously let down by his actions.

BlooperReel · 24/05/2022 11:25

Grieving my MIL who passed away the week before from Covid related complications.

DaisyQuakeJohnson · 24/05/2022 11:34

Dropping off shopping to my DM and DSIS - without going into the house. DM had just been released from hospital after a fall but, of course, we hadn't been allowed to visit her.

TooBigForMyBoots · 24/05/2022 11:34

It's not hysyeria. It's fact. PM Johnson's Tory government dont care about the people of the UK. And you and the rest of his cheerleaders don't care either @JaniieJones. You said so on this thread.🙈

Janiie - rather hilariously proving that poster's point.

richardhammondsgoatee · 24/05/2022 11:41

Teaching in a school, trying to interview for a new job without breaking the rules, and (though I didn't know that day) catching covid 👍

(I also got a speeding ticket after I finally did interview due to being a bit throttle heavy on an empty motorway 🤦🏽‍♀️ obviously I shouldn't have done it no matter how "safe" I deemed it to be. I paid the fine.)

SueSaid · 24/05/2022 11:43

'rather hilariously proving that poster's point.'

How it is hilariously proving anyone's point? They were at work they weren't partying at 1am! and again they weren't all breaking restrictions in place. The ones who were fined maybe didn't have any emails or whatever to back up their working status and possibly stayed boozing too long so weren't 'at work' .

'The Tory party and the tory faithful don't care' is like something the ridiculous Paul Brand would say. I wonder if he's on here..

GoodJanetBadJanet · 24/05/2022 11:46

You WEREN'T ALLOWED to be gathering socially!!
So yes, that is breaking restrictions in place.

SueSaid · 24/05/2022 11:47

'You WEREN'T ALLOWED to be gathering socially!!'

They were at work..

You know, like Starmer in Durham?

TooBigForMyBoots · 24/05/2022 12:04

THE TORY PARTY DON'T CARE.
THE TORY PARTY FAITHFUL DON'T CARE.

People tell you about losing their children and parents.😢 They tell you of the pain, stress, fear, illness, loneliness, poor mental health and bereavement that they had to suffer in isolation because of the laws made by this Conservative government.

And what response do they get?
I don't care
Nobody I know cares
Get over it
HmmHmmHmm
We get that you don't care, you told us.

Binsk · 24/05/2022 12:15

I care. A lot. The Tories being in power actually benefits me financially, it also benefits my wider family. I was fortunate enough not to have to cancel any big events or lose a relative and not be able to attend their funeral due to restrictions.

None of us have, nor will we ever, vote for them. I hope that when they're ousted at the next election it's by an embarrassing amount of votes, and our law breaking PM shamefully takes that title with him for the rest of his pathetic life. They may have money, privilege and a good education, but they are scum through and through.

GoodJanetBadJanet · 24/05/2022 12:16

They were at work

Yes, and you were to do your work and go home.
NOT stand around drinking with colleagues, what part of that are you finding so hard to get?

SueSaid · 24/05/2022 12:18

'They tell you of the pain, stress, fear, illness, loneliness, poor mental health and bereavement that they had to suffer in isolation because of the laws made by this Conservative government.'

To reduce the spread of a virus in a pandemic. To restrict unnecessary social interaction with mates down the pub. Laws passed in Parliament, Starmer even voted for them then went boozing on his work do too.

Meanwhile keyworkers went to work and interacted with their colleagues.

2 completely separate things. These snaps have been investigated and fines issued for those who shouldn't have been there.

TooBigForMyBoots · 24/05/2022 12:38

To restrict unnecessary social interaction with mates down the pub.

Is that your understanding of the law at the time? Is that all you think was happening? Households were not allowed to mingle indoors. Many, many people suffered. It was not about mates down the pub.Hmm Stop minimising what people went through to bolster your lying, lawbreaking government.

OverByYer · 24/05/2022 12:45

To say ‘ they were at work’ is disingenuous. I was at work throughout as am a key worker. Colleagues and I weren’t always able to socially distance from each other or members of the public.
But not once did we ever have or even consider that we should all have a drink together in our workplace after our shift ( we’d be sacked for one thing).
meal breaks we had to sit apart in the canteen despite sitting next to each other in vehicles.
The rules at times didn’t make sense but they were the rules and we stuck to them. I don’t hunk it’s much to ask for those who made the rules to follow them as well.

Crazybabylady14 · 24/05/2022 12:46

I think, for those PP who say 'hey ho, they (government) work hard to get us out of the pandemic, they're in contact anyway etc' it's a question of integrity. So many people went through things beyond belief - months of loved ones having no contact with anyone other than in a face mask, people dying alone, the trauma and distress of NHS/caregivers giving up seeing their family and friends even at a distance to ensure they could give care to people they didn't even know and so on. To see the person telling us what not to do, our PM, at a party raising a glass at someone leaving is fairly galling.

Clavinova · 24/05/2022 12:50

Roussette
How do you know they all worked together?
Apparently not, from what I've read.

How did Boris Johnson 'orchestrate the event' if they were not all working closely together? Surely you are contradicting yourself? With this -

"Interestingly, he orchestrated the event and encouraged those there to fill their glasses."

Also, the glasses look half full to me (before the toast) -

www.theguardian.com/politics/live/2022/may/23/sue-gray-report-partygate-boris-johnson-downing-street-uk-politics-latest

Here he is being asked straight off, was there a gathering on Nov.13th? He says NO. He was there!

Article in Full Fact from January -

While some people appear to have taken Mr Johnson’s “no” as a denial that a party was held on 13 November, it’s not clear from his response that that was the case. The way that Ms West’s question was asked could mean that Mr Johnson was instead declining to “tell the House whether there was a party”.

Furthermore, Ms West asked Mr Johnson specifically about a “party”. The report collated by Ms Gray describes all the events she investigated as “gatherings”, including the two listed on 13 November—so even if Mr Johnson had said on 8 December that there was no party, that would not necessarily have been contradicted by Ms Gray’s findings.
