OP posts:
GrendelsGrandma · 24/05/2022 08:13

13 Nov 2020 we wwre juggling work around care for 3yo DD who had to isolate after close contact at nursery. I didn't realise a piss up with friends was an option, I could have done with one.

CHiSOCG · 24/05/2022 08:14

It is important as if we hold anyone to standards it’s our government, our Prime Minister. I’m fed up of people calling him Boris too. It detracts from his position and makes him sound like a buddy/a friend to the extent it doesn’t matter what he did, because well it’s Boris.

Now change Boris to Prime Minister! It’s sounds a whole lot more serious, because it is!!!! He should be held to account!

Hbh17 · 23/05/2022 22:47

I have no idea, because it's not important, and I don't know anybody who cares in the slightest what the PM may have been doing. Such a tedious subject.....

You know some strange uncaring people then!

Pretty sure most people do care that we have such a liar and hypocrite as our PM.

Me and DH were at home abiding by the rules that Bumbler had dictated. I had not seen any of my family since March. Both my parents died of covid fairly soon after, my mum alone in hospital and not allowed any visitors. I am bloody furious about the lying dickhead

Tryhard40 · 24/05/2022 08:14

I may have had people round - I've no idea - who cares?

Not everyone blindly "followed the rules". Some of us thought for ourselves and used our critical thinking.

SueSaid · 24/05/2022 08:14

'Good one Janiie!'

Thankyou. You must keep reminding yourself they were at work. This wasn't 1am in a nightclub, they weren't visiting dying relatives when no one else was allowed, they weren't having pals round to their houses for parties, they weren't seeing relatives in care homes when no one else could. They were at work and he toasted someone leaving. Unclench.

You mean you thought only of yourself and used selfish thinking

CHiSOCG · 24/05/2022 08:15

It was the day before Diwali which we celebrated without family. Kids went to school. Looking at my calendar and photos I had a Tesco delivery

Ahhh... so ... now people who did abide by the rules are being blamed for being stupid to do so.
Nice.
It's what Rees-Mogg tried to do. He did that with Grenfell too. Stupid people listening to the Fire Brigade.

Well, you could have been given a £10k fine for breaking the rules. Because consequences are for the little people.

Roussette · 24/05/2022 07:49

Can't we just move on and forget about all this?

Yeah.... let's just move on and forget that our Prime Minister lies to the house, and in doing so is being investigated by the Commons Privileges Committee for misleading Parliament
nothing to see here Hmm

I can't just forget that we were prevented from being with our loved one as they lay dying.
No. I can't just move on from the fact that the person who was enforcing rules that had such an effect on my family didn't enforce them at number 10 and is still allowed to keep his job.
No. I can't forget and I never will.

Snowiscold · 24/05/2022 08:18

They were breaking rules that they themselves made. Then they lied about it.

And actually different govt depts mixing together was incredibly stupid, if they all came down with covid at once the government could have stopped functioning properly.

Roussette · 24/05/2022 08:19

You never cease to amaze me with your nonsense!

He just toasted someone... ok ... got you.

Wonder why others were fined for doing that then. And the Met calling it an illegal gathering. Weird.

I don't know what you mean by 'unclench'. You use that word a lot lol

You mean you were selfish and irresponsible and didn’t care that you might be helping to spread a disease that has killed thousands of people because you’re special?

JennyJumpup · 24/05/2022 08:22

Sobbing my heart out as my Mum (who lived abroad) had just been diagnosed with stage 4 cancer. I never saw her again.
I couldn't give two shits if Boris Johnson was at a party or not.

ATadConfused · 24/05/2022 08:28

I think what it's important to remember is that we needed the restrictions that were in place regarding hospital visits/meeting up indoors with family/going to venues with lots of people, like soft play.

Whatever they did, doesn't change that.

being ambushed with cake by people you were spending all day with.

Raising a toast to someone you work with.

I've lost track, but it really doesn't change the dreadful situations that people were in because they restrictions were necessary.

it was no more/less safe to visit loved ones in care homes whether they were having a drink at work or cake or not.

For your own sake, try not to let it make a difficult time/memory more difficult for yourself by thinking what they did/didn't do at No10 really makes any meaningful difference to what your experience was xx

GrendelsGrandma · 24/05/2022 08:12

I cannot understand how Boris Johnson is still in place or how people can defend him. He has no principles and no honour. He thinks he can get away with anything. He pissed all over his own rules then lied about it to the house.

In my experience, the people I know who still support Boris simply don’t care. They know he lies, is selfish, throws public money at his mates to make them richer and indulges in corrupt behaviour. But they’re willing to turn a blind eye.

FFS there was an ABBA party.

And personally I prefer a bit more integrity in my leaders. Look at Zelenskyy. Think he’d indulge in Boris’ Schtick?

BiddyPop · 24/05/2022 08:36

Working from home, again, doing very long days (regularly doing 16+ hour days, and working almost every weekend as well - no I don't get overtime) and dealing with some very difficult people who tried to prevent us doing what needed to be done on a particularly technical project that was already overdue and needed delicate negotiations to achieve.

Dealing with teen DCs SNs flaring up again, and trying to keep myself sane while she lost her mind.

Hadn't seen my DPs or any extended family on either side in 4 months.

Hadn't met friends in over a year due to restrictions. Hadn't been out with DH in over 18 months.

No chance to exercise as health conditions mean long walks don't work and the pools were yet again on restricted hours and limited numbers access (and I had a shit tonne of work to do so couldn't get there when there was capacity).

Cheesepleeze · 24/05/2022 08:39

I was in hospital with covid that day. Never ended up in ICU thank god, but needed oxygen and beta blockers and felt like I was suffocating constantly, not knowing which way things would go. It was absolutely terrifying as a healthy, athletic 25 year old who’d felt pretty invincible up til then, and I was very bitter towards all the anti mask, rule flouting idiots for a long while after.

onanotherday · 24/05/2022 08:39

Aaaabbbcccc · 24/05/2022 00:35

They were in close contact every day so parties would make zero difference?

Really? Last time I looked Covid was an air born disease. So none of them got public transport, or went home to loved ones...stopped in shops with suitcases!?

How hearing some of these harrowing stories people are so dismissive is beyond me.

My student dd was working for "free" in the NHS as too early in her training to be 'made up', so like many of her friends went as volunteers. She was in a student flat alone with Covid and no support hundreds of miles away. Now left with long Covid..ptsd due to the awful things she saw..and a huge student loan .

Johnson and his mates care not a jot about people..and they couldn't signal that anymore..why people still support them I will never understand.

EsmeSusanOgg · 24/05/2022 08:41

Self isolating ahead of surgery. Delayed surgery due to Covid 19.

BiddyPop · 24/05/2022 08:44

We were not allowed to have any leaving do's for loads of people who retired and otherwise left in that period. We were still being strongly encouraged to WFH FT (after having restrictions loosened and started going back to office once a week in September - that stopped again in October).

We are only getting to raise a glass this week to a dear colleague who died (from aggressive cancer) at the end of last year.

So please don't talk about being hijacked with a cake and glass of bubbles....we weren't even allowed to have a cup of coffee with colleagues spaced out in the canteen area.

danblack87 · 24/05/2022 08:45

It was a Sunday, so I guess I was working in the morning and doing Sunday Roast for my fella .. no family guests.

SueSaid · 24/05/2022 08:45

'Wonder why others were fined for doing that then'

Hmm I'd guess they stayed longer?

Politicians need to have rules regarding booze at work without a doubt. They were at work though, sorry. Ask Starmer, he'll agree.
