AIBU to think that the Met Police have "Saved" Boris Johnson?

Just at the very moment when the Sue Gray report on Partygate was about to be released, the police suddenly decided to investigate partying at Downing Street themselves. This was after months of saying they don't investigate historic breaches of lockdown rules. Can't help thinking that they were persuaded to do this to stop the Sue Gray report being released.

The Met then proceed to spend months investigating Partygate offences, thus taking the heat out of the original fury about revelations about lockdown breaches. No doubt this was entirely their intention.

The sum total of the police investigation was one £50 fine for the Prime Minister, for one of the more minor breaches of lockdown rules. Begs the question why he was not fined for any of the other events he attended?

It just smacks of a stitch up, doesn't it?

Yes.

AlternativePerspective · 23/05/2022 15:03

TBH I have no idea why anyone even gives a shite any more.

The police investigated, not enough fines were handed out. It’s done.

Not sure what the point even is of the Sue Grey report.

TulipsGarden · 23/05/2022 15:04

Yes, of course it is. With Boris Johnson comes institutional corruption.

LampLighter414 · 23/05/2022 15:06

Yes. Who gives the police orders? The home secretary. Our dear Priti Patel.

Bretonbear · 23/05/2022 15:10

It all smells of corruption and cover up and I reckon this report will smell of the same. I really don't know what the PM could do which would actually bring him down as he appears to be untouchable. It is crazy.

Dillydollydingdong · 23/05/2022 15:11

What about Starmer? " No we didn't have a party", even though food for 40 people was delivered and KS was filmed swigging beer out of a bottle. "No, Angela Rayner wasn't there", even though they had to admit later than she was! Unmissable with her red hair and gobby mouth. Was KS suddenly blind and deaf that night? No, of course not. He thought he could get away with lying. Will he resign if he's fined? No, of course not. He'll find some excuse. He's as bad as Boris.

ilovesooty · 23/05/2022 15:14

And whose brother is high up in the Met?

Whose partner was running the investigation?

The Met is as corrupt as fuck. Anyone who doesn't care about that probably doesn't care that we have a lying and corrupt PM who has ensured that his government is lying and corrupt too, because that's how he operates, while relying on the electorate to be so disengaged, disfranchised and powerless that they become apathetic.

FFS. That's so ridiculous I cba to start addressing it.

Lavenderlast · 23/05/2022 15:22

Yep. Plus at the time these offences occurred, the police were handing out fines to members of the public of £10,000 and telling us all that’s what you get if you’re naughty. So who organises the events at Downing St, and why have the fines only been £50?!

The police have been complicit in this since the beginning. They literally stood on Boris’ doorstep throughout lockdown listening to the party music inside and watching the drunk people come and go eithout lifting a finger to stop it. It is corruption.

We see you, Downing Street and the Met.

We see you.

sashagabadon · 23/05/2022 15:28

I can’t believe people are still going on about this. Fines were issued, that’s the punishment. So many of the grrr Boris types have driven themselves insane over this. Some previously sensible types have lost all perspective and need to get off Twitter imo!

sashagabadon · 23/05/2022 15:28

And the” Keir did it too” stuff is stupid too

Justcallmebebes · 23/05/2022 15:30

Aren't we over this yet? It's all getting a bit tedious. I don't know a single person IRL who gives a shit anymore. I know I certainly don't and before you ask will I be voting Tory in the next election then? Yes, probably

There are huge events taking place and those events are going to change the world. Possibly there could be war and famine and shortages in many things vital to the smooth running of society.
In the face of all that I really don't care if Boris ate the cake or broke the swing or if Starmer downed a pint. I am tired of the constant repetition of offences. Boris has the Ukraine to deal with and cost of living on his mind. Let's leave him to it.

With such serious issues as Ukraine and cost of living crisis pressing, all the more reason to replace the Prime minister with one that is fit for purpose.

Yawn! Not one single person that in know gives two shits about this! I think the reason no one cares is because there is not one among them that can say honestly, hand on heart that they stuck to lock down 100% either! Most people stuck to the majority of it but everyone broke the rules here and there 🤷‍♀️.

bloodyplanes · 23/05/2022 15:46

The cost of living crisis is more likely to be the thing that see's the back of Boris unless he gets to grips with it sharpish.

andtheycalledthewindmoriah · 23/05/2022 15:47

Yes because it is one.

I think you would expect the lawmakers to abide by the laws they created though? What was the point of the rules if even the ones who created them couldn't be bothered to follow them?

A lot of people I know care about it. Because it's not "just a beer" - it is a symbol of the fact that our PM is corrupt and untruthful.

Sure, a lot of people broke covid rules, but they didn't MAKE the rules (unlike Johnson) and weren't on TV every night telling us how important it was to follow them (unlike Johnson). They are not supposed to be leading by example. Plus plenty of people did keep the rules, and often at great personal cost.

I despise this government.

Why should we trust someone to do big things if they don't/can't be trusted to do small things?

Completely disagree with that. People I know really care about it- the parties, of course, but also lying to parliament about it.

I can't help thinking that people who say that we should forget about Partygate and move on are Tory voters who are desperate for us all to forget how corrupt this government are.
