AIBU to think that the Met Police have "Saved" Boris Johnson?

SueGray54321 · 23/05/2022 14:52

Just at the very moment when the Sue Gray report on Partygate was about to be released, the police suddenly decided to investigate partying at Downing Street themselves. This was after months of saying they don't investigate historic breaches of lockdown rules. Can't help thinking that they were persuaded to do this to stop the Sue Gray report being released.

The Met then proceed to spend months investigating Partygate offences, thus taking the heat out of the original fury about revelations about lockdown breaches. No doubt this was entirely their intention.

The sum total of the police investigation was one £50 fine for the Prime Minister, for one of the more minor breaches of lockdown rules. Begs the question why he was not fined for any of the other events he attended?

It just smacks of a stitch up, doesn't it?

What about Starmer? " No we didn't have a party", even though food for 40 people was delivered and KS was filmed swigging beer out of a bottle. "No, Angela Rayner wasn't there", even though they had to admit later than she was! Unmissable with her red hair and gobby mouth. Was KS suddenly blind and deaf that night? No, of course not. He thought he could get away with lying. Will he resign if he's fined? No, of course not. He'll find some excuse. He's as bad as Boris.

Incorrect and offensive.

eatingapie · 23/05/2022 18:02

Yeah PICS!!!

There’s bound to be more where that came from. The utter drivel about ‘interviews’ coinciding at a party and bollcks about ‘not being aware there was wine’ can fucking do one. I hope Boris (and Carrie) get their comeuppance over this. Their contempt for the people they are supposed to be serving is unbearable.

eatingapie · 23/05/2022 18:06

I’m excited to see what excuses people can come with for these photos!

artisanbread · 23/05/2022 18:09

Aren't we over this yet? It's all getting a bit tedious

The strategy has worked then!

This is how Johnson gets away with all the crap he's done. He just rides it out until people lose interest.

Loopytiles · 23/05/2022 18:11

The delay in publication (then the war) was the issue and IMO the author and civil service are primarily responsible for that. They should’ve published when originally planned.

At the time Boris Johnson was breaking the rules he was trying to enforce, people had relatives dying....alone. People were unable to be at loved ones funerals, so no, some people can't get over the complete contempt shown by this government.

And of course it screams corruption, its what Boris Johnson does best.

Yes agree…I hope their children have higher morals than their parents otherwise the next generation are screwed!!

Apologist bingo.

I care!

I care that they partied whilst the rest of us were getting fines for sitting on a park bench ffs! I care that Priti Patel did a briefing with the police where she bollocked the country for not following the rules, when they knew they weren't either.

I care that they used deliberately provocative 'don't kill granny' posters and made people feel shit for minor indiscretions whilst they were having Abba parties and groping the staff! I care that the police were using drones in local beauty spots to catch people fucking walking whilst they stood at the door of the biggest party house in the country and did nothing.

I mostly care though that the
parasitic cunt can stand up in Parliament, deliberately lie his arse off, and no-one is allowed to state that fact, despite everyone knowing it's true. Nothing happens, the walking bag of blancmange is untouchable. Depressingly the serfs will still vote for him, because the Daily Mail tell them to - after all there's still some who believe he nearly died of covid 😂 for someone so close to death he's been amazingly lax with his health hasn't he? If I'd been hospitalised with covid I probably would've taken it more seriously - not Bojo though, he's even produced 2 extra kids through the pandemic, what a trouper!

I despise them and yes OP, I 100% think the MET have saved him - though they only 'investigated' to appease the public and kick the can. I've no doubt the extent of their investigation was asking Bojo for a list of low-hanging fruit to punish. There was no 'investigation' - the whole thing is a pantomime.

Thedogscollar · 23/05/2022 18:43

Lovely photo of BJ on the news right now at one of the non party's. Think he had his bestest suit on and maybe even combed his hair.
Liar through and through.

StoneofDestiny · 23/05/2022 18:43

The Met Police have been brought into disrepute from day one of partygate. Police officers saw the people going into No 10, dragging booze filled suitcases in, heard the partying, smelled the booze and yet did nothing to stop it!

yes, I care we have a liar as a PM and a police service corrupted by this government.

I can’t believe people are still going on about this. Fines were issued, that’s the punishment. So many of the grrr Boris types have driven themselves insane over this. Some previously sensible types have lost all perspective and need to get off Twitter imo!

The guy at the top, who locked down the nation, costing us trillions, didn't obey his own rules.

So he knew Covid wasn't a threat to the vast majority & he locked down for a laff.

We couldn't see our Nan, nor attend her funeral in November '20.

imho BJ is a total fraud.... and yes if the commander who ordered the shooting of a totally innocent man, goes on to become their head for many years, then yes, the Met is corrupt, racist and misogynistic.

Christ get your facts straight at least.

BishyBarnyBee · 23/05/2022 19:06

People in my office care. They know people who were fined. There's a definite consensus of "one rule for them, another for us".

I feel really upset by it because we stuck to the rules, it profoundly affected my mental health, and I think he will get away with it scott free.

For some reason I also keep thinking about the 12 year old Somalian boy who died alone near the start of the pandemic because his family weren't allowed to visit him. I'm also beyond furious that junior staff -and I believe more women- have been fined, possibly because they were more honest. It just all feels really, shockingly unfair. I don't expect my views to make one shred of difference, I think he'll get away with it - but yes, I really do care.

BorisisaLune · 23/05/2022 19:06

BJ was also asked directly if there was a party on the 13th November and he said NO.

The photo's say otherwise, so he lied to Parliament, which under his own rules means he should resign.

Teapot55 · 23/05/2022 19:07

If he thought there was a genuine risk, he wouldn't have had the party.

We've been stitched up by falling for the fear-mongering and complying like sheep.

I attended my MIL's funeral and then her sons - who are all under 40 had to immediately leave and didn't see each other until the lockdown ended in April 2021. They couldn't spend time together or help each other grieve because they complied with the rules. But turns out they could've had a wake after all.

Clavinova · 23/05/2022 19:18

BJ was also asked directly if there was a party on the 13th November and he said NO.

Full Fact

What did Mr Johnson actually say on 8 December?

On 8 December 2021, during Prime Minister’s Questions, Ms West asked Mr Johnson: “Will the Prime Minister tell the House whether there was a party in Downing Street on 13 November?”
Mr Johnson replied: “No, but I am sure that whatever happened, the guidance was followed and the rules were followed at all times.”

While some people appear to have taken Mr Johnson’s “no” as a denial that a party was held on 13 November, it’s not clear from his response that that was the case. The way that Ms West’s question was asked could mean that Mr Johnson was instead declining to “tell the House whether there was a party”.

Furthermore, Ms West asked Mr Johnson specifically about a “party”. The report collated by Ms Gray describes all the events she investigated as “gatherings”, including the two listed on 13 November—so even if Mr Johnson had said on 8 December that there was no party, that would not necessarily have been contradicted by Ms Gray’s findings.

i will not move on from this because it is essential that we can trust our leaders. He set new laws, then broke them and then lied about it. If this is the example set by our leader, what message does that send? Why should Joe Blogs stick to the law if the PM doesn’t?

I work in the public sector as a professional. If I broke the law whilst on duty I would be sacked. If I drank alcohol on work premises then I would be sacked. If I messed up and then lied about it, I’d be disciplined, if not sacked.

We pay him to do a job for us. He has failed. He needs to go.

What if we end up in another pandemic and need to work together again? What if we end up at war and need everyone to pull together? What if we need to ration carbon or oil? Why would we, when our PM didn’t?

Just imagine he has to send another letter to us all and address is on TV telling us about some disaster about befall us and telling us we all need to do X in order to protect ourselves and each other. He has ZERO credibility. We will be thinking ‘yeah yeah, whatever, you won’t so why should we?’

I am desperate to see some people in Government that have some integrity, are honest and transparent and have some values (even if they are different to mine).

Apologist doesn't mean what you think it means.

Are you saying that you really don't see a problem with a Prime Minister who knowingly lies to the people and breaches the ministerial code by deliberately misleading parliament?
