to not want all models to look like 'real' women?

Just that really. I am much more likely to buy clothing if the model looks like looks slim. I don't care for the current thing of showing clothes (aside from specifically for plus sized ofc) on fat people. It's not as attractive.
I am a thin person but have been fat by the way.

YABU. Most are thin.

Antarcticant · 21/05/2022 18:34

YABU - they should be shown on a range of different sizes - including slim people of course - so everyone has a realistic idea of how they might look in them.

iex · 21/05/2022 18:35

I'd like to see all types, 6ft size 8, 5ft 7 size 16, 5ft size 22, (and everything else)

The problem is you only see the very thin or the very fat at the moment

FirewomanSam · 21/05/2022 18:38

I’m a size 14 and the only time I ever see models around my size, at least for mainstream clothing brands, they are advertising plus-size clothing that doesn’t even come in my size (the models have clearly been clipped into the clothes or are wearing smaller sample sizes). Personally I love it when brands show items on a whole range of sizes, Snag Tights for example do this brilliantly.

orwellwasright · 21/05/2022 18:39

Stop imposing your expectations about what women should look like on others.

A ridiculous obsession with thin models means that most have eating disorders.

TeenPlusCat · 21/05/2022 18:40

YABU. I wish they would show clothes on 3 models eg size 8, 14, 20
Maybe at the start of a website you could set your preferred size.
Some clothes translate well up the sizes, and some don't.

Discovereads · 21/05/2022 18:40

YANBU in that current models do seem to be less attractive because of this “real woman” trend. To me, their size doesn’t matter as you can be gorgeous whether thin or obese. It’s just been a trend to actually pick really ugly women to be models. Ive seen models with noses like a potato, or massively gapped teeth, or shaped like tanks. I think it’s actually so that the average attractive woman can look at clothes and think, I’d look better in that than she does and so buy it.

MadameCholetsDirtySecret · 21/05/2022 18:42

I’m a real woman and very slim. I resent the implication that I am somehow other.

HousePlantNeglect · 21/05/2022 18:43

I’m finding it’s taking some adjusting to as I’m so used to seeing clothes on willowy tall white women and have gotten used to translating that to how it will look on a short sturdier woman (me!).

But otherwise I’m delighted to see more diversity in model size.

StepAwayFromGoogling · 21/05/2022 18:43

YABU. 'It's not as attractive' - Really?!

Porkmore · 21/05/2022 18:45

I'd like to see some size 12's. All super small, or larger sizes.

MangoMaddie · 21/05/2022 18:45

I like it when they show the same item on a range of women, from very slim to very large. I'd guess this is also helpful for the store, as getting a better idea of how something might look on you presumably means fewer returns.

Debbiedoodah · 21/05/2022 18:45

Some of the Snug and Molke modelling is really grim. Put me off buying from them.

Sunquench · 21/05/2022 18:46

@MadameCholetsDirtySecret

How are you “other” when the majority of adverts are those of slim women. You have thin privilege, bit like white privilege.

IncompleteSenten · 21/05/2022 18:47

They are slim.

Where are you seeing all these big models?

The only bigger models I see are those in catalogues specialising in plus size clothing.

girlmom21 · 21/05/2022 18:48

YABU. I want to see what clothes will look like on me, not what they look like on someone a different size to then arrive and make me look like a potato.

PurassicJark · 21/05/2022 18:50

I think a range is good. But the current obsession is either end of the scale, very thin or very fat. Both are usually unhealthy and should not be aspirational figures and yet are.

This. A very good idea

catsonahottinroof · 21/05/2022 18:51

I think it looks good on a variety of body types too. Some places seem to be going too far the other way, like Snag Tights, with nearly all the models very obese. It's nice to have a variety so everyone feels represented.

CorneliaStreet42 · 21/05/2022 18:55

I like the companies who show clothes on different sized models.

About ten years ago Next were using excessively thin models and it was ridiculous because they looked nothing like even the thinnest people I knew I'm 'real life'. And my sister is a size 6 in Next. It just made everything look like a sack when it wasn't meant to be.

A mixture is better.

Topseyt123 · 21/05/2022 18:58

I like to see the wider diversity of sizes being modelled by some retailers. At least now they aren't assuming that every customer is slim and are acknowledging (finally) that we come in all shapes and sizes.

I am a plus size, though I would far rather not be. I still need to be able to buy clothes but for far too long the options for people like me have been very limited. Now they are getting a little better, and models for plus size clothing are needed. As it should be.

lemmein · 21/05/2022 18:58

Boohoo dress obese models in such ridiculous, unflattering clothes it actually looks like they're taking the piss out of them just for clicks. Most people can't get away with a flesh coloured Lycra crop top with matching leggings, I refuse to believe Boohoo dress their models in such monstrosities to be 'inclusive'.

Ahh, give over with the "thin privilege." It's nothing like white privilege, because skin colour can't be changed, but weight can be lost (in MOST cases). I'm an overweight woman myself and I'm sick of overweight people bashing slim women out of pure jealousy. It's not their fault I'm overweight, I'm overweight because I eat too much.

Yes this would be better, just one size model for everything would only benefit customers of that size. I don't think OP came across well but I can relate to trying to working out what an item of clothing will look like when the model is very slim or plus size.
