To be annoyed over a tub of egg mayo?

Squiff70 · 15/05/2022 12:25

Yesterday morning we went shopping. We got lunch supplies for the next few days. I chose egg mayo as a sandwich filler and DP chose deli meats like chorizo.

I've just come to make lunch and found he's eaten my egg mayo. A full fucking tub. He has been known to pile it high on sandwiches but only after he's asked if we can share. This time he didn't ask.

I can't have deli meats due to being pregnant but I don't like them either, so now I have nothing for lunch. I'm fuming.

He's been in the bathroom for 40 minutes so far and has only just got in the shower. Why do men need to take a half-hour poo in preparation? He'll be at least 20 minutes in the shower than at least another 20 minutes after having a shave, so I can't send him out to get something else for lunch. My parents are coming this afternoon and I need a shower before they arrive. Instead I'm looking after our 2 year old daughter in my dressing gown and feeling grubby as well as hungry.

I also need a wee and we have no other barhroom/toilet so I'm getting very irritated.

AIBU?

Toddler had the remains of last night's home made pasta bake, since several of you have asked. There was only enough for a very little portion :)

We didn't do a big/full shop yesterday. Just grabbed a few bits. Clearly not on in MN standards 🤣

I am struggling with the idea that your cupboard is bare Mrs Hubbard.
Most people would have something in it- tuna, salmon, sardines, pasta sauce, EGGS, cheese, MAYO. These are basics for most people.

BotterMon · 15/05/2022 14:23

I voted YANBU OP and thank you for your great sense of humour despite the lambasting you received.

Have a lovely afternoon with your parents and hope DP/DH (sorry can't remember) bought you some flowers too to make up for his mayo & schwank misdemeanours.

Goldijobsandthe3bears · 15/05/2022 14:15

Aren’t they jars?

No, they are in clear plastic tubs

UndertheCedartree · 15/05/2022 14:24

Solidarity with OP: I buy ready made egg mayo sometimes! Other people must too as why would shops sell it if noone likes it??

My DD particularly likes it and it is an easy option if making her a sandwich for her packed lunch. I'm not always organised enough to make egg mayo. While it doesn't take long to boil eggs you do have to have time to cool them. I don't always have mayo in either. Yes, I am not super organised at all times!

And the rule my DC and I follow is not to eat more than your fair share. So if there is a tub of egg mayo don't eat more than a third of it so everyone gets some. They can follow that, I'm sure OPs DH could have thought to leave some for OP too!

He eats your lunch and stops you from peeing. The obvious two-birds-with-one-stone solution would be to pee on his deli meats.

Lol brilliant 😂

It's not compulsory to have a passport
Maybe they haven't planned to go on holiday yet and Werent they probably born in lockdown?

if your parents live abroad it’s pretty sensible to get your child a passport. My second was born in lockdown and we managed to get one - I thought it was just what everyone does; gets their child a passport once they are registered after birth. Saves problems and stress when you need to go somewhere.

WTF does any of this have to do with the OP’s egg mayo?

Trivester · 15/05/2022 14:25

You posted this in the wrong section, OP, other than that you’re completely right.

sadly some men add an enormous mental burden by having to be trained into doing their fair share. Don’t waste your energy on rage unless it helps you focus on standing your ground, in which case, rage away! It is worth the effort you put in now because with two dc under two you won’t have the headspace.

But don’t waste your time and energy sparring on aibu with people who have nothing better to do on a Sunday afternoon than goad strangers.

enjoy your dp’s visit.

You're making a mountain out of a mole hill here. Absolutely ridiculous on your part.

Not everyone has the money to buy a passport for no reason but to have one handy

@Goldijobsandthe3bears they are plastic tubs. In the fridges with the ham and cooked meats etc. You may never have noticed them personally but this is a seriously weird thing to be so determined to question the existence of. This is like that time a MNer claimed she didn’t know you could buy pesto.

Here’s one from Tesco: www.tesco.com/groceries/en-GB/products/275476504

And Waitrose: www.google.co.uk/shopping/product/8220544363877083245?lsf=seller:8225840,store:12521430848504010890,lsfqd:0&prds=oid:11807845011667006969&q=mayonnaise&hl=en-gb&ei=zf2AYtjFL9DwgQbSpaco&sts=14&lsft=gclid:Cj0KCQjwyYKUBhDJARIsAMj9lkG7hd7wgHvKWbh-Pnnd-yagd_WVBuLVF6m6DrcvnyifnaSWJJHNVpgaAupUEALw_wcB,gclsrc:aw.ds

And Sainsbury’s: www.sainsburys.co.uk/gol-ui/product/sainsburys-egg-mayonnaise-deli-filler-230g?utm_medium=cpc&catalogId=10241&productId=99874&utm_campaign=15424330555&storeId=10151&gclid=Cj0KCQjwyYKUBhDJARIsAMj9lkE5xQsB9n8ZP0uoS7ATwJUaz_m0bicMbaJvYAzJGiGR8Q0gF8GEh-0aAmHTEALw_wcB&langId=44&utm_source=Google&krypto=NulqHWV%2F80mA7QU6v8HkItvMOcMCRNNxgKUhbkdDBEijRJxJHzlb8fB240QdTbpIPWrtZcskVJVLslo%2BXXCHrNdsxjx4zjRCnywc1E%2Bdq2CrB0NDrNaz3YVndGkdxEwSE5jFgMcaO7LkDbvuWy6Svo1XsID66SkDRrAg28HmZ37vPVZIq1iu1O3GugY3kniaSJInlpchU2%2FPxhgsYwdjo2SpzZtqNZjnR30FYQMVOz6uV%2BOrqRZkQsYZHhfGs0gJR56LUd4%2BsNvoyfjTb9kbZigsW7LfWIJwFmIt5wHa%2BmV%2FADABAs%2BNR6F1C65znvaRFqPrR5u7%2FkdU07aRNVhDUhmgp7REgRuLEDjOEh%2ByoxaYqDHwT3Gv5DqUoAJ93YtFRfYWkpIsgsPo8f5xq9A3GDx8EkE6oQV74hxRIr1YB2ktxc52ZjJc4WghtSuBs4zqHdVBEDsMXS4o6xMSRuYS4WyNePXEN5VoWbRyLVV6NQbbzqeEg6BLzs4ntSmPx%2FQooq3%2BF67RT7Kmf5TvCZJQOboyUGLcaDiy0zsL5oHuTlS3kFwSv%2FpYNpHFFlCHI68Kh2GO0Dsho45JUinJLI68yCcus4ozPtZETqxxgRt1GqtEtkz%2Fi4mbumfVXDKXNN%2B8&ddkey=https%3Agb%2Fgroceries%2Fsainsburys-egg-mayonnaise-deli-filler-230g

Urgh, I’m not, I’m clearly responding to people suggesting that I’m lying as they are every supermarket they have ever been in ever 🤣🤦🏼‍♀️ I believe they exist, I want to find one to buy but no I have never seen one. Satisfied?

SunThroughTheCloudsAt6am · 15/05/2022 14:26

I must say, that if deli meats are off the table, I really don't think I'd want to risk deli egg mayo either personally.. but to each their own

Purplecatshopaholic · 15/05/2022 14:26

Sounds like it’s time for a house with more than one bathroom - and possibly time for a new non-egg-mayo-stealing partner too..

FirewomanSam · 15/05/2022 14:27

@Trivester I know that was for the OP but I needed to hear that too. Good advice for all of us!

Squiff70 · 15/05/2022 12:31

Please read the OP. He chose deli meats including chorizo and salami. I am 6 months pregnant and deli meats are advised against during pregnancy. I don't like them either. I did actually explain this!

Based on this response YABU and I would lock myself in the bathroom too if I was him.

Deli meats are cured and not cooked
Egg mayo in a tub has cooked eggs and pasteurised mayo in it

BrightOrion · 15/05/2022 14:30

I’m pregnant and I’d be so angry too OP, so I’m with you! Food is a major joy in pregnancy, especially when you have your mind set on something you want to eat!

FirewomanSam · 15/05/2022 14:31

@Goldijobsandthe3bears then I wish you good luck on your search! I’d be astonished if there wasn’t a supermarket near you that had them, even the tiny Sainsbury’s local around here has egg mayo. So someone must be buying it despite all the MNers declaring it to be rank 😆

LoveinTheFastLane · 15/05/2022 14:32

So according to the links left by a poster, a tub of egg may is £1.75 at Waitrose.

How can anyone be ripped off like that? Even their own eggs are 6 for £1.

Daylight robbery.

But, takes all sorts, as they say.

Thank you. He actually did buy flowers to say sorry for "being a douchebag".

It might be fair to say he won't be eating full tubs of egg mayo again in a hurry.

Have some toast, cheese on toast, beans on toast, just butter on toast. It’s a bit odd you’ve invited parents over and you only have one pack of deli meats in the fridge and a now eaten tub of egg mayo. What are you planning to give your child to eat, let alone the rest of the family! I really think you’re making a bit of a drama about it all, female solidarity or not, I’m not a fan of the dramatics.

This totally!!!

MissNothing1991 · 15/05/2022 14:33

I'm also confused as to why you couldn't have the toddler in the house to have a shower. I also have a toddler and I'm a lone parent. If I didn't shower, eat or get dressed until someone could watch her then I'd never do any of them because I literally have no childcare. Get a grip ffs.
