To be annoyed over a tub of egg mayo?

Squiff70 · 15/05/2022 12:25

Yesterday morning we went shopping. We got lunch supplies for the next few days. I chose egg mayo as a sandwich filler and DP chose deli meats like chorizo.

I've just come to make lunch and found he's eaten my egg mayo. A full fucking tub. He has been known to pile it high on sandwiches but only after he's asked if we can share. This time he didn't ask.

I can't have deli meats due to being pregnant but I don't like them either, so now I have nothing for lunch. I'm fuming.

He's been in the bathroom for 40 minutes so far and has only just got in the shower. Why do men need to take a half-hour poo in preparation? He'll be at least 20 minutes in the shower than at least another 20 minutes after having a shave, so I can't send him out to get something else for lunch. My parents are coming this afternoon and I need a shower before they arrive. Instead I'm looking after our 2 year old daughter in my dressing gown and feeling grubby as well as hungry.

I also need a wee and we have no other barhroom/toilet so I'm getting very irritated.

AIBU?

I'd put his deli meats and the chorizo sausage in the food processor if its a euphemism for what you let get close to you 6 months ago.

Heronwatcher · 15/05/2022 14:07

Good grief! Eat something else if you’re that hangry (cracker, cereal, apple). Go in and have a wee, take toddler with you or remove food and replace with phone for 2 mins, duly bollock husband about selfish egg mayonnaise ways when he’s out of the shower so he’s a bit more thoughtful, get parents to pick up more egg mayonnaise on way.

ODFOx · 15/05/2022 13:46

Fried egg sandwich with salt and branston it is then OP.

In future when choosing your own fillings you both have to ensure that you can eat each other's: if he'd gone for ham or roast chicken you'd be having a lovely sandwich right now!

Now stop being goady , you know the OP doesn’t keep eggs in the house. Or Mayo. The only thing edible in the entire house is the salami . Though come to think of it there must be bread since there were sandwiches on the menu. So maybe a Branson pickle sandwich is on the cards. Or a tomato sandwich, or a cucumber sandwich…… love cucumber sandwiches, thin bread, cucumber, bit of black pepper…….

BritWifeInUSA · 15/05/2022 14:08

And you would have had time for lunch if you’d just got on with it instead of posting every minute detail of a trivial matter on here.

RaspberryChouxBuns · 15/05/2022 14:08

I'm 30 weeks pregnant and have been eating deli meat all the way through... oops. Oh well.

You can fly at 6 months pregnant OP, I've just done a solo trip with my 4 and 5 year old.

Yabu for buying shop bought egg mayo 😫

FirewomanSam · 15/05/2022 14:10

These comments are insane. Of course YANBU. You bought something for your lunch, he knew it was for your lunch and he ate the whole thing. That’s a dick move, end of.

People sanctimoniously telling you to make your own egg mayo and they’d never buy the horrid ready-made stuff… way to miss the point much?! It doesn’t matter what it was or whether you could have made your own, the point was he knowingly left his pregnant wife without anything to eat for your lunch.

But it’s AIBU so of course people feel entitled to pull apart every aspect of your life including questioning why your parents are coming to visit. This fucking place, honestly.

LoveinTheFastLane · 15/05/2022 14:10

You are being unreasonable to buy a tub of egg mayo.
I didn't know it even existed.
What a complete waste of money.

It will be cheap eggs and cheap mayo.
Boil egg, add good mayo, job done.

stuntbubbles · 15/05/2022 14:11

A husband that spends 1hr20mins having a shower and eats all the OP’s pregnancy snack but it’s the OP who’s in the wrong, classic AIBU mentality.

viques · 15/05/2022 14:11

Branston . A Branson sandwich is something I don’t want to think about.

Why doesn’t your toddler have a passport?

Lockdown? Covid?

PinkSyCo · 15/05/2022 14:12

How was one tub of egg mayo supposed to last you a few days anyway?

CaMePlaitPas · 15/05/2022 14:13

How big was the tub?

Squiff70 · 15/05/2022 14:13

Why doesn’t your toddler have a passport?

Why am I having to share every insignificant (to the topic of this thread) detail of our lives in order to placate others?

She doesn't have a passport because she was born very prematurely, spent the first 8 months of her life in hospital, came home during lockdown on oxygen and fed by tube until a few months ago, and since travel restrictions were lifted we haven't wanted or needed to travel abroad.

I'm so confused right now why this was even asked, but anyway...

To everyone else, your replies have cheered me up no end. I have genuinely laughed out loud at the replies and pregnancy rage jas finally faded as a result.

I've had a shower and DP is home with egg mayo. Rejoice!

I have never seen tubs of egg mayonnaise at the supermarket, just to stop all the insightful replies 😏

They're with the sandwich fillers like coronation chicken, 3 cheese and onion, tuna and sweetcorn. Have them in every shop I've ever been in.

pinkyredrose · 15/05/2022 14:14

You're sounding rather martyred OP!

Aren’t they jars?

LoveinTheFastLane · 15/05/2022 14:15

We also don't have any cheese or other meats. No eggs either as we always end up throwing more away than we actually use. Sure, I could have the deli meats that I don't like, and put our unborn baby at risk if I get listeria, but that's clearly besides the point.

So you love egg mayo but end up throwing eggs away. Hmm...that's interesting! Most have a use by date of up to 3 weeks.

Your DH was unreasonable but you do seem to have a problem stocking your fridge as well.

I also thought it was only certain types of food that were no-no for pregnant women (like some unpasteurised cheeses) not any types of cold meat like chicken, ham etc.

whynotwhatknot · 15/05/2022 14:17

remember the He ate my soup thread

everyone said he was out of order (before we knew he was absuvie) i dont know why this is any different

Squiff70 · 15/05/2022 14:18

Toddler had the remains of last night's home made pasta bake, since several of you have asked. There was only enough for a very little portion :)

We didn't do a big/full shop yesterday. Just grabbed a few bits. Clearly not on in MN standards 🤣

OP posts:
LoveinTheFastLane · 15/05/2022 14:20

OP- you can eat cold meats but best not to eat those that are cured rather than cooked. And it's toxoplasmosis that is the risk. Listeria is for dairy.

Squiff70 · 15/05/2022 14:20

CaMePlaitPas · 15/05/2022 14:13

How big was the tub?

Big. That's why I was so pissed off. It would have done my lunches for three days, or two days if he'd had only some of it.

FirewomanSam · 15/05/2022 14:21

@Goldijobsandthe3bears they are plastic tubs. In the fridges with the ham and cooked meats etc. You may never have noticed them personally but this is a seriously weird thing to be so determined to question the existence of. This is like that time a MNer claimed she didn’t know you could buy pesto.

Please read the OP. He chose deli meats including chorizo and salami. I am 6 months pregnant and deli meats are advised against during pregnancy. I don't like them either. I did actually explain this!

You're coming across as quite cheeky tbh.

thecurtainsofdestiny · 15/05/2022 14:22

I realise the thread has moved on. But YANBU. At all.

Egg mayo is a serious matter.

Giraffesandbottoms · 15/05/2022 14:22

It's not compulsory to have a passport
Maybe they haven't planned to go on holiday yet and Werent they probably born in lockdown?

if your parents live abroad it’s pretty sensible to get your child a passport. My second was born in lockdown and we managed to get one - I thought it was just what everyone does; gets their child a passport once they are registered after birth. Saves problems and stress when you need to go somewhere.
