To be annoyed over a tub of egg mayo?

Squiff70 · 15/05/2022 12:25

Yesterday morning we went shopping. We got lunch supplies for the next few days. I chose egg mayo as a sandwich filler and DP chose deli meats like chorizo.

I've just come to make lunch and found he's eaten my egg mayo. A full fucking tub. He has been known to pile it high on sandwiches but only after he's asked if we can share. This time he didn't ask.

I can't have deli meats due to being pregnant but I don't like them either, so now I have nothing for lunch. I'm fuming.

He's been in the bathroom for 40 minutes so far and has only just got in the shower. Why do men need to take a half-hour poo in preparation? He'll be at least 20 minutes in the shower than at least another 20 minutes after having a shave, so I can't send him out to get something else for lunch. My parents are coming this afternoon and I need a shower before they arrive. Instead I'm looking after our 2 year old daughter in my dressing gown and feeling grubby as well as hungry.

I also need a wee and we have no other barhroom/toilet so I'm getting very irritated.

AIBU?

You can't conceive the possibility that people may have no relatives abroad and no wish to holiday abroad with young children?

no! I don’t know anyone who doesn’t do this. I’m not even being facetious I seriously didn’t know this was a thing. As I said my second was born in lock down but actually when it was possible we travelled a few times - to visit a dying relative and then to go to their funeral.

I don't know anyone who has relatives abroad and I probably would take a baby or toddler to a funeral in this country, never mind abroad so that wouldnt be an issue. Neither of my children have passports but when we do decide to take them abroad (probably when they're 6 and 8 otherwise what's the point 🤣) then I'll sort passports then!

SeedyBloomer · 15/05/2022 15:43

I wouldn’t have posted on here: I’d have simply banged on the door, told him that he’s eaten a lunch which wasn’t his so he has got five minutes for a very quick shower and then he needs to go out and replace it. He’s choosing to take 40 minutes because it gets him out of doing other things and he’s choosing to eat food that clearly is for you because nothing happens when he does (hence your first post where you seem resigned to having no lunch and no time to get ready yourself while he enjoys both your lunch and anything up to an hour in the bathroom).

Think about all the people that you know. Are you seriously claiming that you know that all their DC have passports.

Even those who don't have a lot of money and no plans to go abroad?

Like bollocks they do.

Giraffesandbottoms · 15/05/2022 15:44

@BarbaraofSeville

tbf I think that’s quite unusual in this day and age

ItsOverFlo · 15/05/2022 15:45

Ok, you're hormonal and he did say he'd go out to get you whatever the thing is you wanted. He ate something, you're pissed off. Did I miss something?

Giraffesandbottoms · 15/05/2022 15:46

@BarbaraofSeville

i honestly think every single person I know has a passport for their children, yes. But then I have an extremely international group of friends. And the ones who aren’t international are at least relatively wealthy. This has been quite eye opening

He was a selfish prick.
you’re being precious and helpless.
he needs to be more considerate, you need to get a grip.

Spot on !!

That sounds like devilled eggs 🥚

Except all mashed up!

Love devilled eggs though.

diddl · 15/05/2022 15:51

It's not necessarily that Op has no food in the house (or has she said that & I missed it?), but that the thing she bought to have for lunch today (& other days!) has been eaten by her thoughtless twat of a husband.

Posters who say "ooh I couldn't live like that having to ask about food"-don't you ever buy anything just for you & expect others not to eat eat because they have their own stuff that you won't be eating?

Don't you ever meal plan & a free for all in the fridge means that you would be down a meal or two for the week so would have to spend more time & money shopping?

Burgoo · 15/05/2022 15:54

Whenever I read or hear "yes but..." I tend to think people don't want to hear... they just want to moan and that's okay but just say it :)

TyrannosaurusRegina · 15/05/2022 15:57

"Oof. This was meant to be light hearted. Now I remember why people should never start threads in AIBU 🤣"

It probably would have remained light hearted if you hadn't been so rude and snide to other posters.

LoveinTheFastLane · 15/05/2022 15:58

Aside from the egg mayo drama @Squiff70 how do you manage when your P isn't around?

You asked him to take your child with him to the shops so you could have a shower. Can't your organise your child while you shower?

I had 2 DCs with a 2 year age gap.

DH left for work daily at 7.30am. I had to look after a 2 year old, a baby AND get myself washed/ showered and ready to face the day alone till 7pm when he was home.

I was wondering what the heck egg mayo was!
I thought a mayonnaise made with whole eggs?

After reading a few replies, I understand now. Sounds yuck. Boil some eggs add mayonnaise, salt and pepper and even some curry powder! Yum!

So egg mayo – boil some eggs add mayonnaise and salt and pepper, all mashed up – sounds yuck. But the exact same thing with curry powder is yum? Sounds made up but OK.

Of course it's a thing! Every member of my family and all of my friends live in the UK, and I can't think of many things I'd like to do less than take my extremely bouncy 3yo on a plane. I highly doubt we will go abroad in at least the next 5 years, so a passport would be a total waste of money.

Wtf is going on with this thread - children’s passports, elderly parents travelling, analysing her timetable since waking up

this is about an egg sandwich

😂😂😂 FFS who knew a storm in an egg mayo tub thread would contain more unintentional comedy gold than the Wagatha Christie trial

Searchfornessie · 15/05/2022 16:01

what have you been doing all morning OP if you and your kid aren’t even dressed by 1pm?!

i am really, really not. But I appreciate my life is a bit of a bubble. Either way I think I’ve now derailed the thread for far too long so going to pipe down now! I’ve learnt something today though.

It's a bizarre thread 😆 OP I don't think you're being unreasonable about the egg Mayo. You bought it because you particularly wanted to eat it and he knew that. If it was a big tub, taking a single portion while leaving plenty for you is fine. Eating the whole tub is selfish.

I'd chuck his deli meats in the bin.

This.
if you have to be hungry then he can as well

Jedsnewstar · 15/05/2022 16:03

Squiff70 · 15/05/2022 12:31

Please read the OP. He chose deli meats including chorizo and salami. I am 6 months pregnant and deli meats are advised against during pregnancy. I don't like them either. I did actually explain this!

Do you have a dog/cat/neighbor? I would bin it and tell him you ate it.

MardyOldGoth · 15/05/2022 16:04

Order deliveroo on his card.

bumblefeline · 15/05/2022 16:05

Egg sandwiches are quite nice mixed with a bit of salad cream instead.
