A non-food shop so like matalan, new look, next etc as long as she is in a sling and doesn't touch the floor?

Not miserable, Just don't like dogs being took into human spaces ie clothes shops, I find it quite disrespectful actually.

What is actually being disrespected?

Manekinek0 · 11/05/2022 13:08

Garden centres, pet shops and some charity shops are the only ones I can think of that typically allow dogs.

Beautiful3 · 11/05/2022 13:08

Personally I wouldn't mind at all, in fact I'd love to see puppies in shops! Perhaps just chance it and see what happens. Update us!

Why would you find it disrespectful? As long as they are not jumping all over you and howling, why would it even bother you.
Get over yourself.

I do
I have a Frenchie he’s in a baby /puppy sling and I take him in with me from when he was 8 weeks old

he’s been in the Range Tesco Metros Post office and Costa B&Q & Wilkos 😂 not to mentions lots of pubs

He’s just had his last injection this week so now he is in a lead

it’s s great way to socialise puppies without having to carry him
i would also take him in the sling with my old dog when I took her out for walks

wintersgold · 11/05/2022 13:10

Some shops do allow dogs I'm pretty sure! e.g. John Lewis, Liberty london

stuntbubbles · 11/05/2022 13:11

Eurgh, just don’t. Zero need aside from service animals for dogs to be in shops.

Antarcticant · 11/05/2022 13:12

Some shops allow dogs - check with them. Not usually fashion retailers (with the exception of assistance dogs).

Manekinek0 · 11/05/2022 13:12

After reading some of these comments I think I need to move! We don't have many dog friendly shops at all!

Sebastianthecoo · 11/05/2022 13:13

I remember feeling a hot wetness on my back in a shop when my two year old (human) child wet through his nappy. It wasn’t pleasant and I can’t think of anything worse than standing in a shop with dog wee on me. Nine week old puppies aren’t known to be continent.

why on earth would someone would take a dog clothes shopping anyway. Total madness.

To socialise the puppy, I would imagine. Young puppies need to be exposed to many different environments and sights when they're little
I will definitely be taking my puppy to as much dog-friendly shops as I can, it's a great experience for them & allows them to grow up more confident and well-adjusted

She'll be absolutely fine Smile

Depends on the shop and if they are an assistance dog.

It’s a puppy in a sling.

Alondra · 11/05/2022 13:16

Many stores accept small puppies on a sling. To make sure, just give a call to the store and see what they say.

moomoose · 11/05/2022 13:16

I take my small terrier into a lot of shops, we're in London. I even take her into our local Tesco Metro approx 3 times a week - I just pick her up before we go in and make sure she is carried all the time. I've never been asked not to. I'm pleased to hear JL is now dog friendly!

monarchoftheglen · 11/05/2022 13:18

Depends on the shop.

There's a retail park near me where 90% of the shops allow dogs - most have water bowls outside and some even have jars of dog biscuits behind the till.

Agree, there is no need. The only "need" is that of the owner, who wants everyone to love their animal as much as they do.

It's SO inappropriate. Inappropriate in clothes shops, completely unreasonable anywhere selling food.

KnitPurlKnitPurl · 11/05/2022 13:20

And the socialisation argument does not wash. Puppies do not need to be socialised in shops, because dogs do not belong in shops.

How did all dog owners manage pre-2017ish when it would never have crossed anyone's mind that it was in any way appropriate to take a dog into a shop?

Lots of clothing and food establishments allow dogs though. It is good for business.

Well the shop has said it is appropriate, whether you like it or not. I honestly don't understand how some people can be so passionate and venomous about their disdain for dogs. Dogs are amazing.

Growing up in the 90s I remember my parents asking if it was ok for the labrador to go in the shop when we were on holiday. Just like today, sometimes it was, sometimes it wasn't.

Non-assistance dogs have always been allowed in some shops and not in others.

XelaM · 11/05/2022 13:22

Yes you can. Many many shops allow this. John Lewis in particular loves dogs!

thisplaceisweird · 11/05/2022 13:22

You could in Spain, any size dog. I would just take it and if they say no, then leave.
