A non-food shop so like matalan, new look, next etc as long as she is in a sling and doesn't touch the floor?

I stand by that people do not realise how ridiculous they look but carry on Grin

No one cares, that wasn't the point of the post anyways. Do keep up Grin now off you pop.

OP - maybe get this moved to the doghouse - people will be knowledgeable and helpful on that board.

Some people really don't like dogs and because this is AIBU they will happily say so.

If it helps, my dogs live a very 'doggy' lifestyle, but I still carried them around and took them places pre-jabs - I don't care if people thought I looked ridiculous.

Does it not know what it wants from the website?

😂😂😂

QuebecBagnet · 11/05/2022 12:12

B&q are dog friendly as are Go Outdoors. Places like White stuff, joule’s and fat face are as well. Think John Lewis is.

PeppoPigg · 11/05/2022 12:14

Depends on the shop and if they are an assistance dog.

She's a 9 week old puppy, she can't be on the ground until she's had her second jabs. God you sound miserable, what is it to you if someone carries their puppy around in a sling whilst waiting on their jabs? Trying to get them used to the outside world and lots of different people is recommended as early as possible so I will walk her around in a sling, get a grip and smile

And you can still do that in situations that allow it. You won't be able to talk your dog in shops after injections so why get them used to it?

Fanacapan · 11/05/2022 12:18

Where I live dogs are allowed in most shops, including the butchers (!), cafes, pubs and restaurants. It’s a very doggy area!

It annoys me that some people think dogs come fully trained and socialised, they have to learn/experience just like children but generally end up better behaved!

TyrannosaurusRegina · 11/05/2022 12:18

No. I'd leave it at home.

I miss the good old days when dogs were just that....dogs, not 'fur babies' carried about in slings and pushed about in pushchairs. I dont think these people know how ridiculous they look Grin

Majority of the time it’s elderly dogs in dog prams or dogs that are injured, so no they don’t look ridiculous it’s needed.
we have a elderly dog that is now struggling to get around and are considering getting a dog pram.

@manzolini many more shops are now allowing dogs, a puppy in a sling will be fine anyway, I guarantee most people won’t even notice. 😊

manzolini · 11/05/2022 12:21

@Plumbear2 because I can tie her outside a shop when she is allowed on the ground? 🤯 Obviously can't do that just now.

Good idea will contact MNHQ now. Thank you

I wouldn't. What if you're next to someone severely allergic, or they have an accident? You should not foist your dog onto other people in an enclosed environment when they just want to do a bit of shopping.. (And i have a dog)

She'll be in a sling with blankets.

get a grip and smile

You sound nice.

And you will look a bit of a tit going round Matalan with a dog in a sling.

LampLighter414 · 11/05/2022 12:24

Yeah dogs don't go into shops in general

One of the joys of being a dog owner, you'll have to work around it.

manzolini · 11/05/2022 12:24

I'm going to take her anyways and see what happens. Thanks for opinions Smile

Hate dogs in shops.....leave it at home or get someone to mind it .

Dontfuckingsaycheese · 11/05/2022 12:25

Depends on shop. In our town Wilko (before closure) and Poundstretcher (despite havin PetHut) said definitely not. Boots, the Works and B+Q said yes. He’s little and I can carry him. I wouldn’t purposely take him ‘shopping’ but if I need to pop in en route or if we are away and always with us I will ask first. I have actually been surprised where I have seen them popping up though, in eg, Primark! Also there was one (similar to my JRx) curled up in a lady’s knee on the front row of a theatre performance of Animal Farm. It was so well-behaved and I assumed it was a support dog. Couldn’t get closer to have a good nosey. Actually I felt a little sorry for the dog - the content and themes were hardly dog-appropriate and I imagined it having nightmares for weeks after but that’s just me!

That's really not the shops problem. A ban on dogs means just that, unless they are a support dog.

oatlattetogo · 11/05/2022 12:25

Presumably you want to take her to get her used to being out and about, not because you need to go shopping? I would stick with places that clearly advertise themselves as being dog friendly- Pets at Home is a good one (always very busy!) and in my nearest town the Fatface, Cafe Nero and Starbucks are dog friendly too.

Most of the dogs are see in prams are clearly very elderly dogs that can’t walk very far but still enjoy going on a day out. I don’t know of anyone (personally) who would put a young, healthy dog in a pushchair for the sake of it!

coffeecupsandfairylights · 11/05/2022 12:26

Loads of shops allow dogs OP - just ring in advance and check if you're worried.

I live in Cumbria and pretty much all non-food shops allow dogs and most have a shop dog too!

When I worked in retail, people bringing in their puppies was the highlight of my day - especially if they were trying things on and I got to look after it 🥰

HappyCup · 11/05/2022 12:26

There are lots of dog friendly high street shops; H&M, Wilcos, Accessorise etc. You’ll need to find out about your local area. If you’re on Facebook and search ‘dog friendly [area name]’ then there’s bound to be a group with that info in.

comealongponds · 11/05/2022 12:26

Some shops yes, but clothes shops no.

if you can’t leave your puppy, clothes shopping isn’t essential anyway

Sally090807 · 11/05/2022 12:27

ZeroFuchsGiven · 11/05/2022 12:02

Not miserable, Just don't like dogs being took into human spaces ie clothes shops, I find it quite disrespectful actually.

I have a dog and I agree. John Lewis allow dogs in store now and one looked like it was about to cock its leg up on a sofa when I was in there last week.

i don’t agree with them in restaurants/coffee shops either.
