A non-food shop so like matalan, new look, next etc as long as she is in a sling and doesn't touch the floor?

I love a good ' AIBUAIDGAF'

( Am I being unreasonable, actually I don't give a fuck)

A good productive use of everybody's time

CoralPaperweight · 11/05/2022 14:35

You can where I live. Does my head in to be honest. Don't understand this pandering to the dog-owning population - I have seen too many dogs utterly stressed out by people/crowds/noise recently, behaving unpredictably and liable to bite.

Hallyup89 · 11/05/2022 14:06

You want it to get used to going out and about? Well, your dog will never be allowed in a shop like that so no need to take it in there to get used to it. Unless it's an assistance dog or an assistance dog in training, keep it out of the shop and have a bit of respect for others.

Errr except dogs are allowed in lots of ‘shops like that’ so no sure what the point is of your post.

Dogs have always been allowed in some shops and not in others. Nothing has changed.

Assistance dogs are allowed in all shops. More people have dogs now than they even did five years ago and they don't necessarily ask if they can bring their dog in first. I saw a customer getting arsey with a pharmacist a few weeks ago when they asked them politely not to bring their dog in with them.

DarlingNik · 11/05/2022 14:40

Lots of shops are dog friendly where I live and I'd love to see a puppy there.

ElenaSt · 11/05/2022 14:40

One of ours can't be left so he goes in most places other than supermarkets. He's either in a trolley with a blanket or jacket around him or held or allowed in on a lead to places like b&q, screwfix, gardening centres, Pet stores etc.

He is welcomed and we have never had any negative reaction from staff or other customers and usually find that people want to try and make a fuss of him or talk to him/us in a positive way.

QuebecBagnet · 11/05/2022 14:41

another customer had a really nasty go at me once in one of the most dog friendly cafes in the Lake District once, seriously the sort of place with baskets of dog towels and bowls of biscuits. My very well behaved, small dog was sat on the floor by the side of my table. He wanted the dog under the table. Oh how I laughed. If he had been nicer I might have been nicer. But he properly marched up and hissed in my ear. I pointed out he was being extremely rude and maybe he ought to find another cafe if been 3ft away from a dog which was doing nothing in a dog friendly cafe upset him so much.

ArtVandalay · 11/05/2022 14:42

I was in selfridges on sat and saw 2 dogs. My local John Lewis allows dogs.

I think it’s becoming a ‘thing’.

My dog’s favourite thing in the world is a trip to Pets at Home. But he cocks his leg and pees in there, so I daren’t take him to John Lewis.

@Plumbear2 because I can tie her outside a shop when she is allowed on the ground? 🤯 Obviously can't do that just now.

@manzolini Please don't tie your dog up outside a shop.

Dog thefts are rife and any dog sitting outside a shop on it's own could be stolen.

When your dog is older you'll, hopefully, be able to leave her at home for a few hours on her own or if the shops are dog friendly you'll still be able to take her inside.

Spidey66 · 11/05/2022 14:52

MN is such a dog hating site.

As mentioned I wouldnt take my dog out until she'd had her jabs and even now only take her into shops where I've checked it's ok. I wouldn't have done what the OP did, but this kind of post tend to bring the dog hating brigade in force, like the thread yesterday about a dog on a beach. When I'm near the seaside I always take mine to a dog friendly beach, she loves it, and tbh a pooh in the sand is a hell of a lot easier to dispose of than a pooh on the pavement.

childofthecorn · 11/05/2022 14:54

You need to teach your puppy to be left at home. Are you really expecting and training your dog to accompany you everywhere, in all human environments, in future? That'll be fun at hospital appointments... You're just shitting on everyone's advice anyway, so what's the point in asking 😆

SoftSheen · 11/05/2022 14:54

Some shops allow dogs, some don't, so best check first.

No of course I will teach her to be alone at home but she's just little yet

They're allowed in John Lewis but not sure if that’s changed since covid. My dogs love a shopping centre…they get so excited they run around like lunatics!
How pleasant for everyone else.

manzolini · 11/05/2022 12:00

She's a 9 week old puppy, she can't be on the ground until she's had her second jabs. God you sound miserable, what is it to you if someone carries their puppy around in a sling whilst waiting on their jabs? Trying to get them used to the outside world and lots of different people is recommended as early as possible so I will walk her around in a sling, get a grip and smile

What’s it to you? Those people with really bad dog allergies who know they can’t go into some pubs etc and assume they are safe going to fucking clothes shops. Some people are that allergic it doesn’t tatter if they’re not on the ground

Giraffesandbottoms · 11/05/2022 14:58

OP can you explain about the puppy sling?!

TeeBee · 11/05/2022 14:58

PleasantBirthday · 11/05/2022 11:49

Does it not know what it wants from the website?

😂Brilliant!

I miss the good old days when dogs were just that....dogs, not 'fur babies' carried about in slings and pushed about in pushchairs. I dont think these people know how ridiculous they look Grin

It’s a puppy. Owners should be carrying their puppy around at this stage as the puppy needs to be socialised to outside noises, other people, traffic etc. but they should not be allowed to walk until they have had their vaccinations.

But no OP, you should generally assume the puppy is not welcome in shops. The only shop I took my puppy into was the pet store, which I knew allowed dogs.

Guide dogs are allowed everywhere and are not hypoallergenic.

Non-assistance dogs have also been allowed in some clothes shops since forever. It's not a new phenomenon.

OP can you explain about the puppy sling?!

I got it from Amazon for £18.99. I just searched for puppy sling and it's great, I just put in a few blankets, put her in and off we go

EveryFlightBeginsWithAFall · 11/05/2022 15:04

If I dog friendly

Dog slings are the most fucking ridiculous thing I've heard of (recently)

I wonder how those of us who had dogs before they were a thing coped! 😑

Labscollie · 11/05/2022 15:05

manzolini · 11/05/2022 11:52

I'll have to do that, was just checking.

Unfortunately, you have just afforded, yet another opportunity, for dogs to be bashed on here. You won't have the simple yes or no but plenty of snarky comments.

manzolini · 11/05/2022 15:05

@Labscollie awk it's gives me a laugh

Wilkos don't allow it - although some customers get away with it sometimes.

They very recently changed their policy and our Wilkos has a sign up saying well behaved dogs are now allowed in.
