Is Starmer seriously going to resign???

I have been waiting for a thread to come up about this, but I can't see one to date. I can't believe Keir Starmer has now said he will resign (and Angela Rayner as well) Potentially leaving the Labour party with no leader at all!

Looking at the 'evidence' that is well known and has been published, it appears the Indian takeaway was pre ordered (due to its size) and pre planned according to the staff at the Indian and the leaked memo, it did include quite a number of people and bottles of beer etc and drinking. It was late into the night, so not work related, and no one is suggesting anyone continued to work afterwards as it was so late. I don't see how this is any different to the No10 arrangements! So how on earth will they avoid a fine??

Sir Keir's speech was so wobbly I actually thought he was resigning there and then, and although I appreciate the sentiments of integrity and honour, where on earth does that leave the LP with under two years to the election or less?

Who would replace him? Do we have any thoughts on a plan of any kind?

I am kind of aghast, we are in the middle of a European war, on the cusp of potentially WW3, I am not sure this is a responsible action given the seriousness of our predicament with Russia whom are threatening us on a weekly basis with nuclear war. At the very very least, we need a firm hand on the tiller, so to speak, we do not have time to be squabbling over beer and cheese.

He can’t call of Boris to resign if fined and then not resign himself it’s hypocritical. If Boris thinks it’s not a resigning issue then he can stay put if his party and the public want him him there. But Keir made it clear breaking rules would mean someone was unfit- imhe should hold himself to the same standard. Labour lied about this, it was pre-planned and labelled as a bit of a treat and a jolly. Keir was very clear on what he thought about such event when it was someone else’s arse on the line.
he was bloody stupid to go after Boris when he knew this was lurking in the background

Paid it while they were NHS employees or after transfer? Contractural entitlement and reality are two different things. There was no overtime for anyone when I worked in the NHS and it was a battle to get any TOIL that was owed.

£25,655.

The average for a full time nurse is £33,384.

Most nurses get stuck at the top of Band 5 (£31k) The upper bands distort the average.

@SarahSissions wouldn't it be lovely if Boris held himself to some kind of standard, i.e. that if you break the law, you resign? But no, you're another Tory tying themselves in verbal knots to avoid saying that what happened at Downing St was fiiiine but oh Labour are so bad.

As for it being an organised jolly - let's see your evidence, and have you submitted it to the police in Durham?

Both.

Even if KS had done exactly the same as BJ (he hasn't) it would not be the same because BJ is the PM, KS isn't.

BJ is required to follow the ministerial code, KS isn't. To have a PM with a criminal sanction while in office is quite different to an opposition leader.

Starmer only said that to try and drag Boris down with him … I bet he wishes he hasn’t said anything now

It has shades of all those MPs in the past who tried to take the moral high ground, the sword of truth, the family values platforms which never goes well for them when they end up having affairs etc.

Has Starmer been fined? If not, why don't you have a look a BJs interview on MN? He is a perfect example of a squirming, lying, hypocrite who has been fined. Starmer is the opposite. Have one of these, it may help you out.🍺

I don’t follow.

How have you arrived at that opinion and feel strongly enough about it to post on a thread where the discussion stopped a couple of weeks ago?

Ineke · 02/06/2022 10:20

I may be wrong but I always believed that ignorance of the law is no defence. So when Boris says he didn’t believe he was at a party, well, it is open to subjective interpretations.
