to not want to go on holiday ever again

Anyone else just not bothered about going on holiday and would rather be home?

Just wondering if how many others feel the same way. I'm just not bothered and even find it a hassle. I could not care less if I was never to go abroad again in my life. I do like weekends away but anything longer I just want to be home again.

OP posts:

I love going to Dorset but I have told me partner I'm never going abroad again it's too much hassle.

Tania64 · 08/05/2022 16:52

MY partner not me partner

BeneficiaryMadness · 08/05/2022 16:53

Does only abroad count as a holiday?

Getwriting · 08/05/2022 16:56

We lived abroad years ago. Kept the house when we moved back to the UK. I love going on holiday there. Not bothered about going anywhere else. But it is a home from home so I guess I’m agreeing with you OP😉

Oblomov22 · 08/05/2022 16:58

I love going abroad. I live going to Dorset. I don't find any of it stressful.

XmasElf10 · 08/05/2022 16:59

Tend to holiday in the UK in my own campervan in places we know and love. Not massively fussed about travelling for many hours.

Notimeforaname · 08/05/2022 16:59

Oh I love the hassle!!
But YANBU to suit yourself!

Enjoy many weekends away throughout the year 😃

BestestBrownies · 08/05/2022 17:00

Fuck no. I still have a massive travel bucket list.

Would love to go proper travelling (backpacking), once DP & I retire. I love nothing more than experiencing another country/culture/language.

Would utterly detest 2 weeks in an AI resort full of tourists, so I understand where you’re coming from if this is your only experience of holidays abroad

lanbro · 08/05/2022 17:00

Love going abroad, I don't find it stressful and it's getting easier now restrictions are lifting. I have my own business and find that I can only really switch off when I'm out of the country

Crucible · 08/05/2022 17:01

Not unreasonable at all. My last holiday was just my home life and all it's stresses in a different postcode. What's the point?

LuckySantangelo35 · 08/05/2022 17:01

How can anyone not want to go abroad?

I’m not being goady, genuinely curious.

Its about getting to see the world, broaden your horizons and your mind, see other cultures and how life functions in different parts of the world, you get to experience different climate, landscapes, food etc, a complete change of scene and break away from the norm, do once in a life time activities like swim with dolphins, etc etc

It’s fabulous!!

Honestly I can’t see how that cannot appeal! Unless you have little kids i can understand but otherwise why wouldn’t you love that? As I say, I’m just so curious about this

InFiveMins · 08/05/2022 17:03

I feel the same, OP. I can't be bothered with them. Too much hassle and I like my home comforts. I'm quite happy with the occasional weekend away, but prefer to be at home.

FrownedUpon · 08/05/2022 17:03

Anxiety plays a huge part in people not wanting to go on holidays, especially abroad. Personally, I love them & have a huge list of places I want to visit before I die.

Roselilly36 · 08/05/2022 17:04

Totally agree, I book holidays, more often than not feel disappointed. It’s a lot of hassle, packing I hate, always forget something, travelling. Can never wait to get home.

DSGR · 08/05/2022 17:05

Love going abroad, not remotely stressful. Love spreading my wings and seeing new things

@InFiveMins

what do you mean by home comforts?

what is there that you cannot get on hol either in uk or abroad?

wishitwasaduvetday · 08/05/2022 17:05

Suppose it depends on the holiday... camping/back packing are my idea of hell, but a decent hotel in an interesting place... love it!

Badbadbunny · 08/05/2022 17:06

I've certainly no plans to go abroad ever again. Flying is now just a series of stressful/miserable experiences. It used to be enjoyable (I first flew 35 years ago), now every last bit of fun has been sucked out of it. My last flight was from Manchester about 3 years ago and we barely managed to get on the flight despite being there 5 hours beforehand due to long queues every step of the way, obnoxious staff, etc., and it wasn't even school holidays. Used to be so much more relaxing. Nothing to do with Covid nor Brexit, I'd already decided to avoid air travel before those!

I'm definitely staying in the UK from now on, to avoid passport control, airport security, etc. I "may" venture to Isle of Man but that is probably the only time I'll ever leave the mainland again.

Such a shame because I've been all over (Americas, Africa, Middle East, Russia, etc), but the actual "travel" is just too much of a nightmare.

orchidsunrise · 08/05/2022 17:06

I feel the exact opposite to this - I love travelling and everything about it (except with kids!)

Badbadbunny · 08/05/2022 17:07

@LuckySantangelo35

How can anyone not want to go abroad?

The airports and flights!

5foot5 · 08/05/2022 17:08

Maybe you haven't been on the sort of holiday you enjoy yet. That doesn't mean it doesn't exist.

Think of the things you like doing and that make you happy and consider if they could be the basis of a holiday.

For example, if you hate beach holidays but love going for walks then maybe a self guided walking holiday would fit the bill.

Or if you don't like hotels and resorts then maybe a self catered cottage somewhere quiet might be nice.

Do you have a DP who wants you to go on holidays you don't enjoy?

Getwriting · 08/05/2022 17:09

In my younger years I did travel and live in different countries maybe that’s why I’m not fussed anymore? We air bnb in uk with my extended family a lot because they won’t go abroad. I enjoy the first 2 days then I want to get home.

LuckySantangelo35 · 08/05/2022 17:10

@Badbadbunny

ah ok. I think I must have been lucky as all my experiences of airport staff, cabin crew etc have been really positive- by and large they’ve all been lovely.

Airport and check in and security is a faff no doubt but I just find it’s worth it for the holiday.

That first blast of warm tropical air as you step off the plane is an amazing feeling

@Getwriting

But why? What’s are you missing about home that’s so great that you want to dash back after a couple of days?

KangarooKenny · 08/05/2022 17:11

I feel like this. I’m happy in my own bed, I can go for days out if I need a change.
