*"How can anyone not want to go abroad?
I’m not being goady, genuinely curious.
Its about getting to see the world, broaden your horizons and your mind, see other cultures and how life functions in different parts of the world, you get to experience different climate, landscapes, food etc, a complete change of scene and break away from the norm, do once in a life time activities like swim with dolphins, etc etc
It’s fabulous!!
Honestly I can’t see how that cannot appeal! Unless you have little kids i can understand but otherwise why wouldn’t you love that? As I say, I’m just so curious about this"*
I find that so many people who talk about experiencing "other cultures" often haven't even, say, visited a council estate in the UK and perhaps live fairly sheltered lives back home.
I will go abroad again, but I honestly couldn't care less about it.
The UK is absolutely stunning when you go off exploring it. We had a camper van for years and went to every nook and cranny of Devon and Cornwall in it. The thrill of moving from one spot to the next each night, crashing in car parks, having random lockins at a local pub with strangers, hiking the coastal path and picking and cooking mussels for dinner - beats anything I've experienced when travelling abroad.
We've been to the Outer Hebrides and are currently holidaying in the Scottish Highlands. We're going to Anglesey in September. We like to have our dog with us and bring our bikes, so it's easier not to fly.
We live in a national park and every weekend is like a holiday. And we've got our garden looking stunning over the last couple of years, and it's gorgeous to sit out in on a sunny day - so I'm not that fussed about jetting off somewhere for a week on a beach.
How can you not understand that everyone is different! And please don't swim with dolphins - that's asshole behaviour.
