to not want to go on holiday ever again

Anyone else just not bothered about going on holiday and would rather be home?

Just wondering if how many others feel the same way. I'm just not bothered and even find it a hassle. I could not care less if I was never to go abroad again in my life. I do like weekends away but anything longer I just want to be home again.

My passport expired more than a decade ago. I love holidaying in this country and taking the dogs isn't an issue. I enjoyed travel but it's more hassle than it's worth these days. I would love a trip to and around Italy by train though.

In my younger years I did travel and live in different countries maybe that’s why I’m not fussed anymore? We air bnb in uk with my extended family a lot because they won’t go abroad. I enjoy the first 2 days then I want to get home.

So like me! I absolutely love the first couple of days as it's new and then want to come home.

TimBoothseyes · 08/05/2022 18:08

I haven't had a holiday (unless you count weekends away), for 11 years. The only reason I'm having one next year is my sister lives abroad and is getting married. I'm terrified of flying and don't like driving, especially to unfamiliar places, so it's easier for me not to bother. I can honestly say that the whole idea of going on holiday fills me with dread. I happy to stay at home.

MadameCholetsDirtySecret · 08/05/2022 18:08

I’m on holiday atm in a Spanish mountain village. It’s blissful. Just DH and me, wine sun and good food. We don’t cook here, so no work at all. Heaven.

Longdistance · 08/05/2022 18:09

We won’t be going abroad for a long time. We’ve recently bought a house in Norfolk as a holiday home. I work term time, so we’ll be there then, well, dds and myself more so than dh.

I agree with this. Apart from lack of money, it seems like in many cases its lack of confidence.

I'm really tired of this sort of pseudoscience, where anyone who doesn't do things exactly the same way as the viwer is deemed to have mental health issues.

Humans vary. It is very narrowminded to need everyone to be exactly the same.

Some humans, like me, vary during the course of their own lives.

Wouldyabeguilty · 08/05/2022 18:09

HATE the sirpost and the flights and the travel to the hotel. really outs me off going anywhere!

Wouldyabeguilty · 08/05/2022 18:09

airport puts

clarasara · 08/05/2022 18:10

I travelled a lot when younger and lived in different countries and maybe that's it for those who aren't bothered to go?

Chaoslatte · 08/05/2022 18:12

I don’t love flying but for me nothing compares to experiencing different cultures in the flesh. Currently deciding where to go next - it’s between Thailand, Egypt and Peru. All for cultural experiences, not to beach resorts (so would be going to Chiang Mai or Aswan rather than Phuket or Sharm el Sheikh etc). Beaches are boring regardless of which country they’re in!

danadas · 08/05/2022 18:13

I've never been abroad and have no desire to tbh. I am fortunate to live close to the beach and lovely scenery and I am completely happy at home. I would be up for a weekend away to other parts of the UK but have a lot of animals so it seems more hassle than it's worth.

AvonCallingBarksdale · 08/05/2022 18:14

Each to their own, but personally I’d be devastated at the prospect of not going abroad on holiday again. I’ve traveled extensively, both as a child as and with DH and the DC… and there are still loads of places I want to go to! There’s a whole world out there to see and explore and experience and I’m afraid the UK, beautiful as it is, isn’t enough for us.

Pistepersistence · 08/05/2022 18:14

I see a lot of people hate airports. I LOVE airports! I make a point of getting there super early (no even if there are queues it’s no issue).
I love the excitement, where is everyone going?! I love the shopping, have a drink maybe some food… I’m a bit of a plane nerd and love flying now (after finding it a bit scary) so maybe that’s a factor!

Crikeyalmighty · 08/05/2022 18:14

Ooh I love holidays- of all kinds -I even like airports and packing!!

reluctantbrit · 08/05/2022 18:14

I love travelling. I don't find it a hassle at all. I would have loved doing more road trips but that has to wait until DD is in a better health.

It doesn't matter if it is a self-catering one or an AI which I do for convenience and still go out and discover the area.

I find it utterly boring spending my holiday at home, we have been on so many day trips, there is not a lot new to do and discover.

Saying that, I am prepared to throw money on a holiday and buy comfort and something nice. It's our luxury.

MyrtlethePurpleTurtle · 08/05/2022 18:15

Each to their own - but overseas every time e for me. (And anyhow, UK way too expensive)

Crikeyalmighty · 08/05/2022 18:15

@Pistepersistence Me too

dreamingbohemian · 08/05/2022 17:59

I still like travelling but then I would never do the kinds of holidays so many people on MN seem to do. I'm not getting up at 3 am to catch a Ryanair flight, or driving to Cornwall when the whole country is driving to Cornwall. I don't do camping. If we do self-catering, no way do I cook and clean all week.

I completely agree that there's no point in a holiday that's not relaxing, but I think the solution is to try to plan a holiday that isn't like inherently stressful, rather than writing off travel completely.

What kid do you do out of interest? 🤔

Mrsbrooks1 · 08/05/2022 18:16

I’ve been all over the Mediterranean, Greece & turkey but when I was much younger I got extremely ill whilst in Cyprus which left me quite poorly for years later so I’ve developed agoraphobia 🤦🏻‍♀️ I rarely leave the city I’m from now which makes me so sad but the panic is too strong to control. I’d bloody love to be able to feel the sand on my feet and the sea in my bikini again 🤣

DrRamsesEmerson · 08/05/2022 18:17

I'm totally the opposite - I thought I liked holidays but they weren't essential, then lockdown struck and I found how desperate I was to get away. Now planning to spend all my money till DD's grown up travelling the world with her whenever we get the chance! Off to Croatia at half term, Egypt at Christmas, hopefully the US next summer. (This summer's a bit of a pain as she turns 12 and won't be fully vaccinated, so we might do something if restrictions have fallen away, but otherwise we'll stay in this country till she's had her second jab and we can travel easily again. )

LuckySantangelo35 · 08/05/2022 17:16

@TheGlitterati

But holidays are about getting to see the world, broaden your horizons and your mind, see other cultures and how life functions in different parts of the world, you get to experience different climate, landscapes, food etc, a complete change of scene and break away from the norm, do once in a life time activities like swim with dolphins, etc etc

could you really go without that for the rest of your life? Would you not get bored? Or just feel there was more to life than the vicinity you live in?

That's how I feel yeah, like I'd happily sit here in this house for eternity with trips out every now and again.

I could be wrong of course.

I'm just enjoying life a lot right now. I've also moved around a lot.

I like going on safari, skiing, hiking ( without kids), wine regions and group holidays to villas or liveaboard, where tbh the company is more critical than the location. Anything else I can take or leave. Only regrets are not going to Syria or Russia before they effectively became no go zones.

LuckySantangelo35 · 08/05/2022 17:01

How can anyone not want to go abroad?

I’m not being goady, genuinely curious.

Its about getting to see the world, broaden your horizons and your mind, see other cultures and how life functions in different parts of the world, you get to experience different climate, landscapes, food etc, a complete change of scene and break away from the norm, do once in a life time activities like swim with dolphins, etc etc

It’s fabulous!!

Honestly I can’t see how that cannot appeal! Unless you have little kids i can understand but otherwise why wouldn’t you love that? As I say, I’m just so curious about this

I just don’t understand why people have to dress up their holiday as some massive educational and cultural experience. It’s not. You get a very, very superficial glimpse. You really don’t ‘get’ the culture from you two weeks hols.

enjoy different food and architecture and the sun, but please don’t try to present yourself as some cultural open minded hero cos you went on your hols.

Chaoslatte · 08/05/2022 18:20

@PrisonerofZeroCovid I regret not going to Russia too. I’ve always wanted to go to St Petersburg and to ride the trans-Siberian railway. Hopefully it will be possible again in the not too distant future.
