to not want to go on holiday ever again

Anyone else just not bothered about going on holiday and would rather be home?

Just wondering if how many others feel the same way. I'm just not bothered and even find it a hassle. I could not care less if I was never to go abroad again in my life. I do like weekends away but anything longer I just want to be home again.

I'm in 2-3 different countries each month (for work, plus I have no family members at all in the country I currently live in). I love it, couldn't imagine not travelling that often. When I have time off, I go on holiday abroad too Grin

Firstshoes · 08/05/2022 17:11

I love going abroad for holidays and it's lovely to come home afterwards. One of the best parts of travelling is coming homeSmile

romdowa · 08/05/2022 17:12

I'm not massively keen on going abroad either. The airport , the crowds, the organising, being in a strange environment. I just really dislike it all.

tomatoandherbs · 08/05/2022 17:12

single mum here to 10 and 13

we are counting down the days. I’ve gone al out and it’s extortionate but it’s the time that I’m not just “mum” doing housework and nagging, I’m chilling with them in the evening in still warm balmy weather chatting and playing, I’m flying down water slides with them, I’m playing beach volleyball with them. I’m not doing a damn thing other than just being me. And it turns out - they really enjoy “me”!

AI, guaranteed sun, five star, sensational beach.

So excited!

TheGlitterati · 08/05/2022 17:13

I love my home and have zero interest in holidays. I do it for my partner and the children but I’d happily sleep in my own house every single day until I die with no complaints.

KangarooKenny · 08/05/2022 17:11

I feel like this. I’m happy in my own bed, I can go for days out if I need a change.

@KangarooKenny

your bed will still be there when you get home though! If anything you’ll appreciate it more after a holiday 😄

How can anyone not want to go abroad?

The airports and flights!

You can go abroad without flying, that's for sure! (Unless you're in Australia!)

No, I’ve been abroad multiple times.
I know I’d be happy if I never went abroad again.

How can anyone not want to go abroad?

I’m not being goady, genuinely curious.

Its about getting to see the world, broaden your horizons and your mind, see other cultures and how life functions in different parts of the world, you get to experience different climate, landscapes, food etc, a complete change of scene and break away from the norm, do once in a life time activities like swim with dolphins, etc etc

It’s fabulous!!

Honestly I can’t see how that cannot appeal! Unless you have little kids i can understand but otherwise why wouldn’t you love that? As I say, I’m just so curious about this

I have enjoyed it in the past but just not bothered any longer. I've been to some interesting places and the only other places I always wanted to go was Asia but now I'm just not bothered anymore. You can see it all via documentaries and books. I read a fascinating book about North Korea, it was like being there (because you wouldn't want to in real life).

I loved the US but went a few times and met the real people in the real places.

So yes there is an appeal, it's just not on my list anymore.

could you really go without that for the rest of your life? Would you not get bored? Or just feel there was more to life than the vicinity you live in?

bumblefeline · 08/05/2022 17:17

I love holidays and have so many places on my bucket list. But I absolutely hate airports and flying. My favourite holidays have been when we have inter-railed or gone on a ferry. I force myself to fly to see places, i'm glad I did.

mycatisannoying · 08/05/2022 17:17

I live for it. And believe me, I'm about as much of a homebody as you could possibly get. However I'd hate a life without holidays abroad, and can't imagine choosing not to go. Don't you want to broaden your horizons at all? Confused

EileenGC · 08/05/2022 17:18

You can see it all via documentaries and books.

This is so, so not true.

I completely get people not wanting to go abroad (we all like different things) but statements like that are simply not true.

Olsi109 · 08/05/2022 17:19

I want to see as much of the world as I possibly can with my husband and 3 kids. I find it's a lot of planning and a lot of organisation but no hassle or stress at all x

tomatoandherbs · 08/05/2022 17:19

I enjoy the airport experience!

Admittedly I pay for official airport valet parking, so someone takes my keys and parks it for me and I walk 30 seconds undercover to departures
and I pay for premium passport control

and we only live 40 mins from airport

LuckySantangelo35 · 08/05/2022 17:20

@noborisno

“You can see it all via documentaries and books.”

Its nowhere near the same. Nowhere near the same as being there and seeing, hearing, feeling, smelling, etc. Not even close.

pumpkinpie01 · 08/05/2022 17:21

I love going away , if I had loads of money I would be off somewhere every weekend!

Getwriting · 08/05/2022 17:21

LuckySantangelo35 · 08/05/2022 17:11

@Getwriting

But why? What’s are you missing about home that’s so great that you want to dash back after a couple of days?

I just find it the same thing different location so I would feather have my home comforts and when I get itchy feet I relocate to my holiday home. I do like camping for a couple of nights only but that to me is an experience sleeping under canvas etc. I don’t really like hotels for more than a couple of nights. However in my youth I have done extensive travel and lived in different countries so I just don’t feel I am missing out anymore. I think I like my own space too I don’t like crowds or dealing with other people too much for prolonged periods of time. Think I’m just a bit of a homebody now like OP. My backpacking days are over thankfully 😅

Shunter350 · 08/05/2022 17:21

Definitely. The hassle, 4am flights, packing, transportation to airport etc, parking.. the stress of new people, too hot..
And in the back of my mind - climate change.
It's ironic that many MN'ers will worry about climate change but jump on a plane to Dubai..
It's also possible why I don't get many matches on OLD..Grin

SillySallySassySausage · 08/05/2022 17:23

You can see it all via documentaries and books.

In that case I better read this cookbook and use my imagination rather than going out for my lovely tea this evening Grin

In my defence too I have lived all over the UK also so it’s not that I’m stuck in Royston Vasey mentality I just like my own space it’s hard to describe I just don’t really like being in another persons spa or a hotel I order my tent because it is my tent. We are all different and I definitely had the travelling bug when I was in my twenties just not now I’m nearer 60 and I detest cruising because I feel trapped biggest mistake ever for me going in a cruise!

tuliplover · 08/05/2022 17:28

I do like being away but not the actual getting there. As the only adult I find the responsibility of getting all passports/tickets/visas sorted, doing the packing, boarding the pets, getting us to the airport with possible overnight stay, even getting the wretched car booked and then taking the shuttle and managing the bags stressful. Plus I have a bit of fear of flying and say a years worth of prayers during takeoff. If I could just walk through a portal door to another country I'd be on the move constantly!

I've reached that point - I've never been to Africa or India, but have travelled widely in my younger days. Loved it when I did it - but have only been on a plane once in the last 15yrs - to a family wedding. Very happy to stay at home these days. Climate change is a serious problem and frequent flights are a moral issue for me.

Babyroobs · 08/05/2022 17:31

For me , holidays just never live up to the expectation. I am always disappointed and want to come home after a few days.

IRunbecauseILikeCake · 08/05/2022 17:32

I like city breaks but I wouldn't like 2 weeks away at a time for example
