To think male violence will never end?

I was reading the news about 14 year old boy raping and killing a 10 year old girl and I just became so tired.
So tired of endless violence boys and men do to girls and women.
And how they don’t care, they seem to think it’s funny or get angry at any woman who try and speak about it.

Women can rape men.
No they can't. You need a penis to commit rape.
That is the legal definition.

1 i n10.

Perhaps in your confidence you could look at the number of foundations for raped men (it will be more than 1 in 10, but I wonder why they struggle to come forward) and tell them their experience is invalidated because you said so.

brookstar · 04/05/2022 20:33

And you can't have it both ways - is the man a victim of male violence even though hes a man?

Of course! Nobody is saying men aren't victims of male violence.

I honestly hope there comes a day where poor Sarah Everard is not thrown into everything bloody debate on anything involving a man.

We were asked at the time to stop doing it by her traumatised family, yet here we still are.

It's a pointless debate on MN because this side of the argument isn't willing to listen. I could point out the number of women who have enabled and encouraged men to murder over the years and I would just be told that they must have been scared.

I understand that they are predominantly committed by men, I haven't disputed that. But all of the men blaming in the world doesn't fix the issue.

Why did this boy rape and kill this girl? Why do men kill women? What can we do as a society to prevent and change this. Note - the answer isn't slagging off all men and claiming that no women ever has hurt us. Murder is the worst crime because it's the ultimate end. I get that. But pretending that no other kind of bad treatment happens and destroys lives is somewhat unfair.

Were we? I think you’ve made that up.

In any case, it seems pretty relevant to me. This isn’t ‘every bloody debate on anything involving a man’. It’s a thread about male violence against women. Sarah Everard wasn’t killed because of who she was. She was killed because of what she was - a woman. She died because she was female and because a man (who happened to hold a position of trust and power that he could exploit) decided he wanted to rape and kill a woman - any woman - for fun.

The same goes for Sabina Nessa, and Libby Squire, and the many many other women and girls who’ve lost their lives for no other reason than the fact they are female.

@stopwaitingforpermissiontobeyou I'm equally annoyed at pretty much the majority of people on this thread tbh. Which is why I'm hiding it.

Im sorry if I offended you witht he parents comment. Genuinely not in my intention.

stopwaitingforpermissiontobeyou · 04/05/2022 20:34

No @Pumperthepumper . I think its absoulutely bloody fantastic that people are raped and murdered.

What an utterly stupid question.

Jesus christ.

Are we in the 20s?

Women can rape men.

And you can't have it both ways - is the man a victim of male violence even though hes a man?

Jesus Christ yourself. Read the Sexual Offences Act 2003. Rape requires a penis in law. Women don't have penises.

You still haven’t given a straight answer though. Is there a problem with male violence in society, yes or no?

Her family and sister asked people to stop using the "I am Sarah" slogan and protesting at the time because it upset them.

People who knew better ignored them.

Not sure what your point is here, if I'm honest. I don't see anyone disagreeing with ynou that these crimes are abhorrent. Incidentally we've still moved completely away from the poor girl in the OP - we're all too busy making our points.

Of course men can be victims of rape. One of the most prolific rapists in the country’s history exclusively raped men.

But only men can be rapists. Because rape involves a penis. That’s what the law says.

So interesting to see that chain of thought in that comment isn’t it? Still casting around, looking for a woman to blame.

Behave yourself.

I'm pointing out that men can be victims too.

We forget about them.

brookstar · 04/05/2022 20:36

That’s the legal definition in the U.K.
Not worldwide. In the US for example, a woman can indeed rape a man.

I'm referring to the uk definition because I live in the UK.

So I'll reframe my response. In the uk a woman cannot rape a man because the legal definition requires there to be penetration by a penis without consent.
That's not saying men can't be raped, it's saying that women aren't the ones doing the raping.

I can't honestly believe its 2022 and we are pretending women cant rape or sexually assault men. I am honestly....wow.

Shehasadiamondinthesky · 04/05/2022 20:38

I've had a lifetime and a gut full of it. I've been married twice it just never ends. I hate men, the only man I speak to is DS who is lovely and my gay male friend who isovely. The rest I avoid like the black death.

YouAreNotBatman · 04/05/2022 20:39

stopwaitingforpermissiontobeyou · 04/05/2022 20:28

No.

I was the one who pointed out that only fathers being responsible for any harm which may lead to violent children is complete and utter nonsense.

So pretty much yes then.

Yes.

Only outside the UK do women sexually assault or rape.

The ones in America were just locked up for fun.

Here on MN, they are all utterly perfect, purely victims, never perpetrators, and hiding in the shadows from evil men.

I've never claimed men can't be raped and that their experiences aren't valid. I'm simply pointing out that it's not women doing the raping because you need a penis for that.

Excellent! So here’s what society can do to stop it:

stop saying boys will be boys and other bullshit
stop normalising sexual entertainment, like strip shows and porn
stop separating clothes/toys/hairstyles by sex, with pink things automatically being seen as weak
encourage boys and men to seek funded councillors for violent/addiction issues

Any more?

Well, given that none of these have anything to do with anything - (the colour pink, jesus christ).

I gave a long list of reasons this boy might have committed rape and was hammered for it.

Is it OK that youre blaming the colours of toys in shops?

Was this 14 year old violent or addicted and able to access this mythical funded counselling you speak of? are you aware the waiting list for CAMHS?

Yes, but my point is, in our quest to cancel our male against female violence, we forget men can be victims. Now you can pretend thats not true, but a look on these boards suggests otherwise.

It does though - it supports the idea that boys behave one way, and girls another. So real boys don’t wear pink. And those real boys grow up to be real men.

And I know there isn’t enough funded counselling. That’s my point - there should be.
