To choose an Irish name for their dog... in light of Britain's history with Ireland.

YABU- get over it, it's a dog
YANBU- it is tone deaf

YRBU I am English by birth and heritage but lived in Ireland from 11 yo to 18 yo. I had a dog in my early 20’s and called him Murphy. It never occurred to me that it was wrong!

Libertybear80 · 03/05/2022 18:57

YABU. My rabbit is named Toki. It's Korean for rabbit! Who cares!

dcthatsme · 03/05/2022 18:58

You have got to be joking!! 😂😂

TackyTart1 · 03/05/2022 18:58

Seriously ??? 😳
Did you post this in the hope that people would agree with you & it'd end up going viral?
<rolling eyes in woke wonderment> 🙄

Yes OP they clearly hate the Irish and have picked an Irish name to show their perceived superiority over the Irish. I bet they kick her twice a day too just to make the point clear.

😂😂😂

Bleachmycloths · 03/05/2022 19:02

I suspect the OP is winding people up.

Seahorsemama · 03/05/2022 19:03

Worse if they named the dog Meghan 😗

Gleeson · 03/05/2022 19:03

Mayo born fluent Irish speaker here (ahem). Baptised in Knock Shrine (ahem). Friend of known Michael D since 1985. They are grand, crack on.

Mfsf · 03/05/2022 19:04

Dont be offended , remember their son has the name of a famous pig 😂

JackieLou · 03/05/2022 19:06

I cant even imagine having a life where I had the time or interest to be offended about something so pointless as what a stranger calls their dog.
Jesus Christ.

fghj149 · 03/05/2022 19:06

Words fail me with this one lol

blackberriesaretheonlyfruit · 03/05/2022 19:09

Maybe William and Kate are Derry Girls fans 😂

MNettersForNoahAndFiona · 03/05/2022 19:12

I think the Irish have far more important things to worry about at the moment, like the disappearance and death of young Noah Donohoe:

My gast is well and truly flabbered! Are you ok OP?

LoisLane66 · 03/05/2022 19:15

Pick a name, any name and there will be SOMEONE, somewhere who'll find fault. Either a connection to the BLM or LGBTQF++ community or any war or PM past or present...blah blah.
Have you nothing better to do than dream up daft questions?

Say Órla wrong and it means vomit. I’m Irish by descent and wanted to call DD Órla but in the UK with no fada? Er… no.

Might be a pretty good name for a new puppy then…

AchatAVendre · 03/05/2022 19:22

How is it Irish? I have a Swiss friend called Orla. No Irish connections. I don't think anyone is aware of having given her an Irish name, it seems to have an Italian connection in her case?

Totally insensitive, although not surprising.

How is it Irish? It's Irish by being a name from Ireland.

YABU........ l wouldn't read too much into it. Maybe they think it's a cute name.
OT but here is my little Delilah, Some of my family is not crazy about the name, but l like it. (she already had her name when l adopted her)
LOL I nicknamed her "Spot" because of the spot on her back,
and "Stretch" because sometimes when she's been sleeping, she'll come into the room, and stop, and stretch one of her little paws up in the air, and go a little further, and stop, and stretch her other little paw up in the air.
She's cute!

I'm Irish and you are being ridiculous. She's a dog and that's her name. There's nothing more to it.
