Looking for some inspiration - what is a good/healthy habit you started and noticed and improvement in how you felt from it?

Meditating and positive affirmation throughout the day !

CaptainPovey · 30/04/2022 18:34

Got a new phone and decided to start tracking my steps. it was an eye-opener, lost weight without changing diet.

Pilates and daily pelvic floor exercises.

It's always a better day if you're not worried about pissy pants.

SomewhereEast · 30/04/2022 18:40

Cutting down caffeine. Was amazed what a difference halving my intake made. I sleep much better & my energy levels are better over all.
Putting a good sleep routine in place (i.e. going to bed at a fixed time, screens off, just reading for half an hour then lights out).
Downloading one of those Apps that won't allow you to waste too much time messing around on stuff like Insta & Twitter. I'm allowed 20 mins a day, then the App boots me off.
Half of mumsnet will hate this but....I'm churchy and I really really notice the difference when I manage to stick to a routine of praying for a bit each day. I'm still crap at it though!

That is so important: to be to yourself like a positive parent! Also walking every day: I started it when I had a multiple fracture in my shoulder (in my sixties) and needed it then just to keep going (not even knowing if I will recover completely, which I did). My husband would take me walkies then, but I insisted on continuing our walks and he has accepted it as another chore to do (as he would not let me walk on my own in case another disaster strikes)...

Run a mile a day, every morning - it’s not far, doesn’t take too long and fires you up for the day. Also keeps the body warmed up and stops achy, stiff joints.

HarryBlaster · 30/04/2022 19:30

Recognising that it’s about a long term healthy lifestyle and not just a quick fix like a diet often is. I run 3-4 times a week now and do strength exercises the other days and I follow a healthy diet most days.

Yourinmyspot · 30/04/2022 19:32

Running, lost weight, made lots of friends, love how it makes me feel, and great stress relief. I did the couch to 5k eight years ago now and have been running regularly ever since.

Trulyhadenough · 30/04/2022 19:35

Starting pilates EVERY day , 7 years go. minimum of 15 mins, up to an hour, depending on what is going on that day. It is calming, keeps me supple , improves balance, posture, so many things . Even the short sessions work wonders on the body that creaks out of bed in the morning. Everyone should do it .

Pringlesaremyspiritanimal · 30/04/2022 19:37

20 mins meditation every morning, a weekly Pilates class, cold water swimming and weekly therapy 👌🏻

Pringlesaremyspiritanimal · 30/04/2022 19:39

And I don’t go on my phone at all after 10pm. Sleep is a priority for me, I really need/want loads

Don’t eat breakfast. After 40 two meals a day is all you need.

Totally agree with this. I've eaten only two meals a day since my late 20's. At nearly 40 I've been the same weight for 20 years, can run 20km, hike 30km a day and boulder at V4 level.

What is the name of the app please?

FreddieMercurysCat · 30/04/2022 20:24

We became a teetotal house. I’ve not slept so well for years. Neither of us snore any more and annoy the shit out of each other. I look back and wonder how the hell we afforded it.

AlloftheTime · 30/04/2022 20:45

@FreddieMercurysCat yes I agree - being alcohol free is a boost to health and well being

JDEE72 · 30/04/2022 20:50

I started drinking more water.
instead of just two glasses a day, and a cup of fennel tea, I now have about two and a half litres of water a day, and a cup or two of fennel tea.
differences: smoother, plumper clearer skin all over. Before, my skin was very rough. Now, only three weeks later, the difference is incredible, and I feel more cognitive too. And that’s just three weeks, so I’m looking forward to any more positive results it will bring.

tootiredtoocare · 30/04/2022 21:12

Taking notice of my mental health and being aware of when I need to stop everything for a moment to get back on track.

Taking 10 minutes out of my day to meditate (not every day, but most days).

AnnieSnap · 30/04/2022 21:16

Mindfulness

Dahliasandtea · 30/04/2022 21:18

Getting 8h sleep a night.
started by taking melatonin to get me into a routine. Turned down all lights for 2h before bed. No screen, no phones. Read a real book. Turned off light when I was tired and would go to sleep. After a few weeks stopped tbe melatonin and I’m now tired at the right time, asleep on time, don’t miss tv and getting 7.5-8h a night.
EVERYTHING is better. I have lost weight, I have clearer head, I’m more productive, I have more energy, my skin is better…. Best change!

gianaInfertilitySucks · 30/04/2022 21:19

DH and I started two new "routines" for better comunication and health. He suggested that we follow the same healthy morning routine -including morning exersice-. It gaves more time together, and those morning walks have started helping my weightloss journey.

My suggestion was that every night before sleeping, we each talk about 3 good things that happened that day and one negative thing.

I love all the ideas I read here, maybe I will make a list with some of them and start trying them.

LisaRobyn · 30/04/2022 21:24

Yeah, but the rain and the cold 😭

CHML1976 · 30/04/2022 21:30

Alcohol. Stopped my nightly wine glass of 1 or 2 or 3… on 10th January this year. Not had any since. Lost over a stone in weight, have more energy, sleeping like a baby, and have more money to spend on other things…. Like electricity and fuel!

MrsRinaDecker · 30/04/2022 21:33

I quit smoking (nearly 10 years ago!)
Quit drinking too much.. from a bottle of wine a night in the bad old days, to maybe a G&T on a Friday night or a couple of cocktails on a (rare) night out.

SisterRuth · 30/04/2022 21:34

About 2 months ago, I started walking 4 miles by a river about 5 days a week. I know I'll do it for ever now. It's just become a joyful necessity.

Carpedimum · 30/04/2022 21:59

Very, very low carb (from green veg), no processed foods except cheese, regular varied exercise from weights to Aquagym & walking, less tv more sleep, supplements targeted at a chronic ailment and most controversially, intermittent fasting + occasional extended fast. I’ve lost A LOT of weight. I feel great, my skin is amazing & I no longer have headaches or migraines.
I have also stopped giving any time or headspace to poisonous people, now that is life-changing!!
