Looking for some inspiration - what is a good/healthy habit you started and noticed and improvement in how you felt from it?

I’ll add weights to the responses.
During lockdown I brought some secondhand ones off FB marketplace. I sit in front of the telly each evening with them and just lift them in my arms 😆That’s it. The difference it has made! Ok I do an hour each evening and I’ve moved up from 1lb to 2.5kg over time but my arms look so toned even if I do say so myself.
Even my stomach feels tighter. Sometimes I even sweat. Just moving these weights up and down.
Simple but super effective. Bye bye bingo wings. Hello sleeveless tops!

I need to do this! Do you do a variety of arm exercises with different exercises for biceps, triceps etc with a set number of repetitions? How long before you saw results?

Cut out meat and dairy. Feel LOADS better!!

MrsDoraDumble · 30/04/2022 22:08

To not let myself put things off that need doing. Im naturally a huge procrastinator/avoider and it’s led to so many issues in the past from just not dealing with stuff! Now I recognise these thoughts and just ‘do it’. Getting it done has made my life so much fuller and easier. I used to worry sooo much and now.. it’s already sorted. Wish I knew this sooner M.

Running and singing in a choir. Mid 50’s and menopausal. Was gaining weight and experiencing all the symptoms. Physical and emotional symptoms now well managed without HRT. I do have flushes but got rid of the other symptoms.

Put up with migraines for years but they’ve gone now that I’m running and stopped eating animal fat and red meat.

I just wish a doctor could have told me to do these things years ago instead of prescribing cocodamol. Could have avoided all the days I spent in bed incapacitated.

Placemarking to come back and make a list!

I really want to get into a better sleep routine, and make it work so that I can get up early and go straight out for a walk before I even have my shower in the morning. Even just round the block for 15 mins, but I have zero self discipline.

I need to get back on the Berocca too.

Mummadeze · 30/04/2022 22:44

I gave up dairy and eggs due to a late onset allergy and it made me feel really healthy. I have also since given up alcohol and love the hangover free life. My skin glows now.

Whataworldaye · 30/04/2022 23:25

Mine was stopping a bad habit…Quitting smoking cold turkey. The first day I felt like my world was going to end if I didn’t give in to the cravings and I didn’t - it’s ridiculous but it genuinely get like that.

The next day, cravings halved. The next day halved again and retrospectively feel it was way easier than I’d imagined it would be and just like all the research says you do notice the return to normality, skin, hair, nails, lungs, being able to actually run, general health and wellbeing and most importantly never picked up one since.

Great thread.

Warm shower followed by a cold/cooler one. Makes me feel energised

Skin routine every night - night cream etc.

Calorie deficit. I don’t rule out any foods. 80% nutrient dense, 20% ‘treats’

Journalling - get up 30 mins earlier and just write. Takes things off my mind

15,000 steps a day. When motivation dwindles, habit kicks in. Made a massive difference to my weight (along with calorie deficit)

saying no to things I don’t want to do

PinotGrigioCat · 30/04/2022 23:46

Taking a high strength vitamin d supplement and dissolvable multi vitamin every morning. Stopped working rotating shifts as they were impacting on me so negatively, also have the benefit of having a regular bedtime. Recognising anxiety bubbling up, allowing myself to feel it and then let it pass (doesn't always work but is a work in progress). Working on my self esteem after a post on here about the book 'Six Pillars of Self Esteem.' Lots of other things to work on, but doing it bit by bit!

NeedAHoliday2021 · 30/04/2022 23:56

Running initially (5ks, occasional 10ks and I did a half marathon but happy with 5ks in general). I got a bit bored so now go to the gym and am doing weights with a personal trainer to boost my confidence with the equipment. Will stop end of July and just go alone after that. I still run too. I was super fit after never thinking I’d be a runner but then 2020 and family life took over so I’m not where I was March 2020 but the balance is there as my family need me too so can’t go off running every other night like I’d like to. When dc are older I will.

Cutting out carbs.I suffer from ibs and get painful trapped wind and bloating from a lot of foods and doing this has nearly cured it completely.I feel less hungry and don't feel like binging like I was prone to before.

oatmilkicedchai · 01/05/2022 00:01

Quit alcohol and significantly reduced caffeine intake. I used to suffer from very bad anxiety and after stopping drinking tea and coffee this reduced by around 80% and now I rarely feel anxious - totally life-changing.

Using guasha! And having a skincare routine have also made me look and feel a lot better.

Taking Vitamin D supplement - because those who live in the UK are supposed to during the winter months especially (see NHS website)- but also because it makes me feel noticeably more energised.

Started saying no more.

oatmilkicedchai · 01/05/2022 00:03

Also: drinking warm lemon water first thing in the morning, sometimes celery juice - has lots of benefits.

And having the same wakeup time every day - including at weekends - helps regulate circadian rhythm and I feel much more awake generally.

Perky1 · 01/05/2022 00:12

Went vegan and no alcohol. Eat at least 10 portions of fruit/veg a day.

JingsWullie · 01/05/2022 00:21

This is such a positive thread OP.

For me it was cutting down on the booze. That led the way to other changes, specifically yoga and running.

I stopped drinking completely for six months and that kind of reset me and now it's very occasional.

Now that the yoga and running take priority I kind of organise myself around them. I even bought a portable mat and do yoga on holidays. Most recently on a hotel roof panoramic viewpoint. (Sounds wanky but early morning, no one else around.) Sure beat starting the day with a hangover!

Moving ponies from full grass livery to stabled diy. I muck 2 out every day, lug water buckets and haynets around, walk 4k steps just doing the basics. Then I ride 4 times a week minimum, 1 of which is a hot, sweaty lesson.

I am stronger, fitter, thinner, much much more toned, sleep like a log. Mentally much happier. I also plan my essays and do uni work mentally while doing the mucking out and riding and find it all much easier to write.

Long, long time ago now but smoking was a huge one.
To be free of that has been amazing.
Absolutely amazing.

Not eating breakfast has been wonderful for me.
I don't eat anything until 11ish then small snack until lunch. Try and have soup or salad for lunch.

( I fall down when I get home so I'm trying to tweak that!!)

itsmeagainlol · 01/05/2022 09:58

Figure skating twice a week. Good exercise, feels amazing, looks graceful and I have a great bunch of friends there.

Don’t eat breakfast. After 40 two meals a day is all you need.

I do this, it's a mini fast which really helps. Quit alcohol there's no benefit in that. Throw out cereals, the box has better nutrition than the contents. I once heard a heart consultant say her breakfast was wholemeal toast with peanut butter. (Not the cheap rubbish with bad oil added please) so that could be a good lunch. Low salt and sugar for better longterm health.

VerbenaGirl · 01/05/2022 10:46

Drinking enough water makes a massive difference to my energy levels and skin. So simple, but I was so bad at doing it.
