Looking for some inspiration - what is a good/healthy habit you started and noticed and improvement in how you felt from it?

Don’t eat breakfast. After 40 two meals a day is all you need.

Just started this myself

Mrsmch123 · 29/04/2022 22:29

Calorie counting....2stone lighter so far😁

Greatoutdoors · 29/04/2022 22:31

Wild swimming. I don’t know if it’s the outdoors or the cold water therapy, but it’s sorted my head right out. I go as often as I can, which is getting more and more as the nights draw out.

Also gym in the morning but tbh that’s something I do because I have to. I know it’s good for me but it doesn’t energise me like wild swimming does.

Huge reduction in alcohol intake, and quit vaping. My sleep is so much better. I have benefitted financially. I no longer have heart palpitations.

HangOnToYourself · 29/04/2022 22:31

No booze on weeknights and more recently borrowing my boyfriend's VR headset to play active games on my lunch break (wfh). Exercise that feels like fun is the winner

Having hobbies I enjoy - playing piano and learning a language.

I’ll add weights to the responses.
During lockdown I brought some secondhand ones off FB marketplace. I sit in front of the telly each evening with them and just lift them in my arms 😆That’s it. The difference it has made! Ok I do an hour each evening and I’ve moved up from 1lb to 2.5kg over time but my arms look so toned even if I do say so myself.
Even my stomach feels tighter. Sometimes I even sweat. Just moving these weights up and down.
Simple but super effective. Bye bye bingo wings. Hello sleeveless tops!

I love this. I could totally do this - you’ve inspired me!

16:8. Lost half a stone very quickly and I was in the low range with my BMI beforehand, ie didn't really need to lose weight. Still in healthy range!

I don't even do it properly, I have a milky coffee after about 13 hours and 3 hours later have brunch. Still eating about 2,000 calories a day. Astounded at the effect.

TAKESNOSHITSHIRLEY · 29/04/2022 22:36

i had a coke addiction(soft drink not drugs)and used to go through 10-11 cans a day.

i stopped a Few months ago(boy was the withdrawals horrendous and i nearly caved in a few time,im had vicious headaches, body shakes, the jitters and heart palpitations )i dont even have diet or max versions now

could have been the sugar or caffeine or both but it was a awful 4-5 weeks.

i switched to bottles of water (im on 3-4 pints a day now) and ive lost 3 stone.
the weight just dropped off me, i wasn't dieting or anything. i went from 18st ish to 15 stone ish

im not fatigued anymore as i used to slump afternoon/early evenings(im a 24/7 carer/home educator to a disabled 11 y old with complex needs that doesn't sleep, i put my fatigue down to that)i now have loads of more energy, my skin has improved no end and ive saved so much money(i was buying 24 cans for 12 pound odd every 2 days)

i googled and a can has roughly 11 cubes of sugar so my intake was through the roof, im 41 and been on the coke/Pepsi since i was 13/14 so a long long time.

ive never drunk coffee, alcohol, smoked, done drugs so my body hasn't been abused as such ,ive just been a chocoholic(i aint given up that)and soft drinks pepsi of coke.

A morning routine. I like to get up an hour before everyone else (around 6am) and have some time to plan my day. I get so much more done when I do it, and I think that bit of peace and quiet in the morning is good for my mental health. I do have to get to bed earlyish though to be able to get up early.

lemmein · 29/04/2022 22:44

I don't do any of these things 😩

Janedoe82 · 29/04/2022 22:46

Weekly group horse riding lesson! Exercise and learning something new and have made new friends. It honestly has been fab

Allinhistiming · 29/04/2022 22:50

Starred a ladies only gym 8 years ago for a year or so before I got married. First time they measured me after 6 weeks I'd lost 1.5 inches off my tummy! Also lost smaller amounts off my legs and arms. I gained confidence to join another gym that challenged me more and went there to do a workout and ate a packed lunch in the car before going to work. My eating habits changed forever and became more conscious of what I was easting and when. I learned a few healthy meals and have kept them under my belt. Not as strict now as have 2 small kids but I would still incorporate healthy meals and plenty of exercise! I've loved reading everyone else's changes here and am looking forward to when mine are both able to use a bike so I can join in too 😊

ChampagneJustBecause · 29/04/2022 22:55

Brought a horse - now super fit, flat stomach (for the first time in 20 years!), and a developing tan.

A dedicated drinking night per week - Friday - with nibbles and something good to watch on tv. Stops me random drinking the rest of the week.

Drinking water - 2 large water bottles filled with tap water, fridge chilled, then brought back to room temp. Always have 1 to hand, including when out and about. Goes before you know it and it just becomes a habit. Skin looks good and I get loads of comments about looking a lot younger than my age.

StellatheCat · 29/04/2022 22:55

Walking (fresh air and exercise in one!), quality vitamins (I use Feel, my one splurge), make up free days and using music to perk me up instead of caffeine (in the evening - not found anything to replace that morning coffee!).
Really seeing a trend here with exercise, and hoping to start back on the weights and exercise bike once I have more time (have a breastfed baby who will only sleep if I am right next to him, so in bed for a solid 12 hours a night).
Also hoping to stop watching so much TV, replace with a podcast or book. I’m sure that will help but at the moment it’s such an easy way to relax of an evening I’m not ready to give up the screen time!

thinkingaboutmydoorbell · 29/04/2022 22:56

Brilliant thread. I’ve written lots of these down and thinking about how to fit into my daily life.

Keep them coming!

Any tips for keeping up with these habits would be welcome.
