Looking for some inspiration - what is a good/healthy habit you started and noticed and improvement in how you felt from it?

Quit smoking and quit drinking.

ChateauxNeufDePoop · 29/04/2022 21:20

Physically - walking. I get an hour for lunch and pound the pavement for 40 minutes of them listening to Absolute 90's.

Mentally - Reading for 20 mins or so last thing in bed. Maybe a novel, maybe a weekend supplement, maybe a magazine that took my fancy in Tesco. Seems to "shut me down" and lead to better sleep.

Oneforposy7 · 29/04/2022 21:26

Waking up at the same time every day - 6am. I've been a night owl/bordered on insomnia for most of my teens and twenties but I sleep better now than ever before and get more sleep. Plus I'm not rushing round manic in the morning.

ILoveAllRainbowsx · 29/04/2022 21:27

Stopped eating carbs (bread, pasta, rice) and replaced with veg.

watcherintherye · 29/04/2022 21:33

1 Vitamin d3 + k2 (100mcg) tablet/day. Less achy, more energy and better mood!

Covetthee · 29/04/2022 21:37

Body brushing before my morning shower.

has definitely reduced my cellulite at the back of my legs and helped all my ingrown hairs disappear on my legs

my body is nice and smooth now and has a nice glow to it thanks to the exfoliation it provides. My legs used to feel stubbly my evening when i shaved now i can go a good 2/3 days with smooth legs and not prickly

most importantly really makes me feel energised and pumped for the morning.

Cycling. I can't drive for medical reasons, and the freedom and mental and physical health benefits feel endless. Just get good waterproofs and a cheap bike and go. You don't need fancy equipment or gear or anything beyond a helmet and lights and a twisty lock to start. And my kids are early proficient cyclists as well so the whole family benefits.

GreenWillowAndCatkins · 29/04/2022 21:41

Good sleep hygiene. Off screens by 10 to read for a bit, lights out by 11. Most nights I read a page and half of my book and am out like a light by 10.30. Get up when I wake up in the morning - not slept beyond 8am for weeks. It's really helping with consistent energy.

Also, listening to my body, not just pushing on regardless. Yes, I aim for 10,000 steps a day. Some days I simply can't do that and I do a lot better stopping at 7,000 rather than forcing the last 3,000 and spending the following day on painkillers unable to move.

Blossomtoes · 29/04/2022 21:44

Breakfast every day is a Nutribullet smoothie. At least five pieces of fruit, spinach, yoghurt and water. Delicious.

HippyChickMama · 29/04/2022 21:44

Probiotic and a Menopace vitamin every morning, less bloated and I'm staying on top of my chronic vitamin D deficiency which means I have more energy. My levels got so low at one point I was really ill and ended up on a really high dose to get it back up, I'm never letting that happen again.
Took up karate 3 years ago, I sometimes have to literally drag my fat middle aged arse to the dojo but I feel amazing after every training session.

TheVanguardSix · 29/04/2022 21:44

I'm 50 now but since the age of 40, I really embraced cycling everywhere. My bike is literally my car. Never drove in the UK and I don't plan to.
Got a dog nearly 7 years ago... lots of walkies, time outdoors, and breathing space.
Going veggie, low-dairy in the past year
Stopped drinking alcohol ten years ago.
Meditation/Yoga Nidra (don't really do yoga, but I do the corpse pose like a pro! Any excuse to sleep!).

KangarooKenny · 29/04/2022 21:47

Drinking a pint of water first thing every morning. And I don’t like water, but I drink it while on MN so don’t even notice.

FindingMeno · 29/04/2022 21:49

Minimalism has made a huge improvement in my life.
It helps so many different aspects.

MegBusset · 29/04/2022 21:52

Walking every morning, lunchtime and evening on a workday.

Giving up alcohol.

KarmaComma · 29/04/2022 21:52

Signed up for 8 weeks online coaching with @healthyhabitscoach (on Instagram), which has led to establishing a couple of habits which has led to significant change in my health. It's not cheap, but definitely value for money.

Goldie2021 · 29/04/2022 21:54

x1000 jumps on the skipping rope a day. Do squats while cleaning my teeth. Felt the best I’ve felt in years!

Foodbanksshouldbeobsolete · 29/04/2022 21:55

I stopped holding grudges, other than giving up alcohol and cigarettes that's probably the best thing I ever did for my health or ever will do.

Vallmo47 · 29/04/2022 22:00

Swimming 5x week. Started out in January, in slow lane averaging 50 seconds per lap and now in fast lane averaging 30 seconds per lap. Really get a kick out of beating my own records and that feeling afterwards - amaaaazing.

Cut out 90% of my previous sugar and junk food intake. Have only cheated a few times for special occasions when I truly didn’t have much option.

Went from drinking no water to 2 litres a day.

Early nights, early rises. Feel way better for it!

newbiename · 29/04/2022 22:01

Lots of inspiration here.

sjxoxo · 29/04/2022 22:03

This is a fab thread. Mine are:

  • using mouthwash (once you start you’ll think it’s gross not to!!)

  • carrot juice every morning first thing

  • running

ABlindAssassin · 29/04/2022 22:09

Daily 20-minute HIIT workouts. I am much more toned and feel much more energised!

Using The Ordinary Buffet. My skin is soft and glowing and my dynamic lines are much softer.

User839516 · 29/04/2022 22:13

Eating dinner with the kids and then not eating again until breakfast. Super simple and once you’re in the habit you really don’t miss snacking or drinking in the evening. Made a big difference to my weight.

WhatTheFlap · 29/04/2022 22:13

@Mamabananananana would you mind telling me which vitamins you use? Could do with better skin!

NewYorkCityDreamer · 29/04/2022 22:19

I gave up Pepsi max

HikingforScenery · 29/04/2022 22:20

Very useful thread!
