To ask what you have planned for the summer holidays and what you paid for it?

Normally I love to organise things in advance but my husband had an unexpected work change meaning I couldn't.

Now I feel totally lost as to where to go, UK, abroad, what kind of holiday, what to budget. I'm hoping hearing other people's plans might inspire me?

We're HPB holders so our holiday accommodation is very affordable.

We have a week this summer self catering in their castle in Pembrokeshire for £430 for a 2 bedroom/2 bathroom apartment. Fingers crossed for sunshine as that's the gamble with UK.

We're going to the Majorca property for May half term and Canaries in October - which are the same accommodation cost but of course the flights add a lot as school holiday pricing.

rookiemere · 28/04/2022 11:02

Week in Buxton with extended family our share of the property is £1k.

Then DS16 off with a pal so DH and I doing a bit of a UK road trip probably around £1k for 6 nights.

We used to have big summer holidays but with covid and DS being older it's tricky to book. We are going to Lanzarote in October which is 4 of us ( DS bringing a friend) for £4k in 4 star HB.

TBH unless you're looking for something non standard you've missed the boat in terms of Summer 22 bargains.

1 week cruise around Norwegian fjords, 2a 1teen, £2400 balcony cabin including premium drinks package. First time we've been on a cruise, fingers crossed we enjoy it. Reviews either love or hate.

Would love to know if you enjoyed and would recommend?! @ModerationInEverything

Whammyyammy · 18/07/2022 14:09

Going to Mallorca again tomorrow for a week, have a long weekend touring the Devonshire coast on the motor cycle mid August and 2 weeks in the u.s booked for early September (1 week in Phoenix and 1 week in San Diego).

Azores. 1 week with kids and 1 week just us (kids over over 18 and flying back early). Flights are about £200 each. Accommodation about £200 per night first week, £100 per night second week.

That's an unusual destination for many. My husband has been numerous times with work, and i liked the look of it, so we went together a few years back and stayed in Lajes for a few days before heading to the u.s. beautiful islands.

TrickyD · 18/07/2022 15:40

Two weeks in our much loved hotel in the Dominican Republic with our family. All inclusive, nine of us, £22,000 approx.
Covid stopped it two years ago, BA cancelled it last year, we are all keeping our fingers crossed for this August.

Icanstillrecallourlastsummer · 18/07/2022 15:46

we are going to scandinavia - one week with family, one week in an airbnb summer house. Flights (Ryanair) for 4 of us are about £900, the summer house £800 and we will have transports costs while there (probably another £400). Then food and spending money for the second half (will be covered while with family).

TravellingSpoon · 18/07/2022 16:18

A week in North Norfolk for me and the DC's.

Then back to Norfolk for bank holiday weekend.

TravellingSpoon · 18/07/2022 16:19

Sorry - costs are £850 for the week in a cottage and then £450 for the weekend at Haven.

Vgbeat · 18/07/2022 21:28

Salut end of August 3.5k for 2 adults 1 child. Lot more then would spend usually but we've not been abroad for about 13 years or so and daughter has never been. Full board in a suite staying at Port Adventura theme park

kittythames · 18/07/2022 21:29

@Ohthatsexciting we don't go until the end of August but I'll come back and let you know.

Brave going in august!

that’s a bargain for 2 weeks presumably AI per person!

Ohthatsexciting · 18/07/2022 21:38

Ah you’re going off peak whereas I went peak season - that would explain difference in part

what’s the hotel btw? Been to dreams a few times

BlancmanegeBunny · 18/07/2022 22:00

We are off to Spain on Saturday for two weeks. (Two adults and two teens) Private 3 bedroomed villa with its own pool, flights, car hire insurance etc. £2500 in total.
Can't wait!!!!

Titsywoo · 18/07/2022 22:11

We don't spend a lot on holidays (although we are saving for a big holiday next summer when GCSE's and ALevels are over). This summer we just have 2 long weekends - this weekend going to New Forest and cost was £650 for 3 rooms at Premier Inn (4 of us but DC won't share anymore). Mid August we are going to Centre Parcs - £2000 for 3 nights but that covers 8 of us in one of the fancy houses. We take the kids friends and my friend and they all love it so it is worth the extortionate cost.

Will do some other days out but DD is working 3 days a week at her part time job and DS has been offered some summer work by the people he did work experience with (plus I work) so less time to fill. So much easier than when they were little!

XelaM · 18/07/2022 23:10

We're going to Italy for 2 weeks next week and I can't wait!!! It's me 3 adults and a teen - £2000 in a villa by the beach 🏖 with a huge pool. We are first going to Germany (where my parents live) for a few days though and then driving all together from Germany to Italy. I'm super excited.

XelaM · 18/07/2022 23:11

I meant 3 adults and a teen (my parents plus me and teen daughter)*

Workyticket · 18/07/2022 23:13

We fly on Wednesday - 3 weeks All Inclusive in Turkwy for £4150 for me, dh and ds

Can't wait - usually do a week but not been away since Covid and we got married last summer during covid ahit so it's a huge treat

ZenNudist · 18/07/2022 23:18

Norfolk house with a pool one week £1250

Peak District 4 nights, friends place, free

Lake District 3 nights just me and the dc, £450

Still got to pay for food and activities

Already done our big holiday this year

easyday · 18/07/2022 23:27

Booked a weekend in Bath for me and my teen daughter. Two nights - hotel about £430, inc breakfast.
Then four night cruise with daughter and 19 year old son to Bruge and Amsterdam, £2500 including all food and shore excursions.
2023 we plan to go to Spain after A levels and Boston for Christmas.

Grackl8 · 19/07/2022 11:29

Dh and have so far been to France for four nights. Flights apartments airport parking came to £500, then another 400 spends.

week in Greece b&b for £ 800 that was flights and hotel. Extra £500 spending money.

couple of weekends away in uk, in premier
inns. Haven’t costed them tbh.

we have a week in the algarve in September£900 all in, and I have four days in Bulgaria in October, around £500.
Booking up for next year as well now.

Simonjt · 19/07/2022 12:24

We’re going to Sitges on Thursday, villa, huge pool, a skip away from a great playground. One week, two adults and two children for £3,500 (including private chef for evening meals on three nights).

In August we’re going to Ottawa, this is a moved event due to covid, so I’m not 100% on cost, maybe £3kish I think. We’re airbnbing, but we got a discount on our flights as I’m going to play in the Bingham cup.

I cannot wait.

TrickyD · 19/07/2022 13:19

Ohthatsexciting
not really brave about going in August. We find summer temperatures far easier to cope with than in the Med.
We have a small grandson still confined by school holidays so if we want to be all together it has to be then.
Yes it’s all inclusive, Hilton la Romana, formerly Dreams la Romana. Brilliant for all of us from 5 - 78.
Not exactly a bargain as we pay for all of the family, but great value and everyone loves it. Teenage grandchildren are excited about the new water park.

Glad this thread has a sensible level of spending , I remember previous years it was 10k +

I have week with the kids in caravan in Clacton week before summer holidays in July - will sleep 8 so various friends and family will come for 1/2 days £480
Also have a week in Crete all inclusive mid September with other half that's just over £1000 -

believe it or not kids ( 18 21) prefer holiday camp UK holidays as they can hire bikes, do arcades etc then going abroad due to the heat .

I think those spending over £10k are deliberately not commenting 😁

TrickyD · 19/07/2022 13:56

I commented. £22K.
