Normally I love to organise things in advance but my husband had an unexpected work change meaning I couldn't.

Now I feel totally lost as to where to go, UK, abroad, what kind of holiday, what to budget. I'm hoping hearing other people's plans might inspire me?

3 wks in the south of France. Under 2k for ferry, hotel stops on the drive & days out, family own the house.

mast0650 · 27/04/2022 22:46

Azores. 1 week with kids and 1 week just us (kids over over 18 and flying back early). Flights are about £200 each. Accommodation about £200 per night first week, £100 per night second week.

It's a 2 storey apartment rather than a room*

I’d love to see a link for this hotel/apartment! We love Italy 🥰

Puzzledandpissedoff · 27/04/2022 22:50

11 night cruise to Canaries next week - £1400 each for a mini suite
Week all inclusive in Rhodes in June - £700 each
6 week home exchange in Florida from October - flights £850 each, only spending money needed after that

HackAttack · 27/04/2022 22:51

I'm loving reading the varied holiday plans

2 weeks in Tuscany/Liguria in June/July, probably coming in at £2-2.5k for flights, car hire and accommodation. 10 days accommodation booked on Black Friday with a good discount, and flights and Vrbo apartment on the coast just kept searching until I got the best deal. Only booked them in the last few weeks, so still some good prices to be found if you can be a bit flexible.
We’re lucky we have earlier school holidays (Scotland) so that saves us £££.

Houseplantmad · 27/04/2022 23:15

Menorca for 3 nights early July £500 all in.
Wales early August 7 mights £0 (family house) + petrol.
Might drive to Paris in July for a couple of nights. If we do it'll be low budget as hoping to go home for 3 weeks to NZ for Christmas as DCs (now young adults) have never had a Kiwi Christmas. It's going to be eye wateringly expensive but I haven't seen my family for six years so it will be worth it.

Two weeks, between Frig and Nerja in a three bedroomed villa.

One for me, one for the snorer, one for the luggage.Though if my sister joins us with her DS for a long weekend we can move the luggage. Grin

Private pool

Outdoor kitchen

Club class to Malaga, booked the minute they came online £900, now coming up at £1,200, mad, mad luggage allowance.

Need to hire a car

Villa £1,000 more than I would have spent, but Dh is retiring after 46 years and was quite insistent for a quiet man on this property . Grin

It is quite isolated, so I have told him happy to indulge him, but he is driving or we are getting taxis.

We've got 10 nights all inclusive in Tenerife in August for 3 adults, 1 child £2800.

Then the last weekend of August (my 40th), 4 nights all inclusive in Majorca, 2 adults, 1 child £900.

We were originally going to go to Whitby for my 40th but after pricing it all up decided on Majorca.

UserError012345 · 28/04/2022 07:43

St ives in July for a week - £960
Me + 2 DD

Ruralbliss · 28/04/2022 07:44

Italian lakes for one week. Staying with friends so just cost of flights + food (airport parking, new summer clothes for kids)

Youngest might do a drama camp so they are occupied but at a huge cost so thinking carefully about this.

My second summer school holidays week of annual leave we are planning various day trips and excursions - paddle boarding on local lake, zoo, hill walking, explore nearby cities/towns.

WouldBeGood · 28/04/2022 07:49

This is interesting as I wanted to go somewhere lovely on the beach in Greece as we’ve not been away for so long, but DP vetoed as it’s £2500 for two weeks. It now looks like anywhere even reasonable won’t be much cheaper. I really want to be right on the sea with good weather

Bogofballs · 28/04/2022 07:52

Amalfi coast Italy for 1 week August, family of 4 - £2000 for 3 star hotel including food and flights. Booked direct.

Always choose hotels popular with Italians or Germans as cheaper and food is better

Bogofballs · 28/04/2022 07:55

For comparison we spent £1200 self catering at a park dean resort in Devon (or static caravan) for 1 week. It was alright but didn’t really feel like a holiday

gogohm · 28/04/2022 08:00

Off to New York shortly and road trip across Europe later in the summer - kids are adults so cat sitting!

gogohm · 28/04/2022 08:01

Our trips have cost a lot but one is transferred from last year so paid for then

HaudYerWheeshtYaWeeBellend · 28/04/2022 08:16

Currently in Ibiza (7 nights) cost £275 for all inclusive, just me and dh. Dh found the deal and the hotel is stunning.

Turkey for 3.5 weeks in August cost around 3k for 2 adults and 2 teens at a water park hotel, bed and breakfast.

We will likely spend around another 5-7k as we are also going on various trips including 2 day overnight stay in Cappadocia and various trips out planned (wet and wild, basically a water fight between buses) luxury boat trips x 2, pirate boat trip, dh and ds1 also doing sky diving and para gliding etc)

£2800 for 10 nights all inc is a great deal! Can I ask which tour operator you used?

Haudyer
Did you book well in advance for your holiday to Turkey? £3k for 3.5 weeks is good even with bed and breakfast.

Jet2holidays but I booked it last March when prices were really low. Have been looking for next year and nothing is coming close to it so we definitely got a bargin.

Ifartglitterybaubles · 28/04/2022 09:57

7 nights self catering in Wollacombe Bay, 2 adults 3 dc. £1200 and around 2.5k spending money.

emmathedilemma · 28/04/2022 10:00

Main holiday is to a Neilsons beach resort (but after the school holidays), it was about £700 per person including flights, food and activities on site.

Lastqueenofscotland2 · 28/04/2022 10:08

already been abroad skiing this year and had two long weekends in the lakes… so this summer

10 days in Scotland, I grew up in an amazing corner of the east highlands so just staying in a cottage on a family members farm. so that will just cost fuel
long weekend in Devon
long weekend in the cotswolds
lond weekend in north wales

all about £200 each

Rory1234 · 28/04/2022 10:21

A week in the nice bit of Majorca 😬in a 4 star hotel, all inclusive, two adults and two children - we’re paying £3000 (would have been £2700 but we wanted specific flight times).

Rory1234 · 28/04/2022 10:21

(That’s in August)

Ohwellnevermindthen · 28/04/2022 10:29

Cottage with hot tub in Devon for a week. Cost 1,100 in June. Hopefully be able to take 500 for food and spends. Would have been 2.5k at least in holidays 😮

I might brave camping again this year, but due to my youngest being a PITA last time I will probably pass on that.

I was tempted to book a holiday park again for a few days, as the kids love the facilities, but last year we had a very large 'wedding party' turn up and cause havoc, so our holiday got cancelled. Never again.

Our holidays last year didn't turn out to be holidays. I cried when we were camping due to the stress of my toddler running off constantly and barely sat down and it took ages to pack. The holiday park trip was a non-event. That's why this year we are spending a little more and going more self-contained to have an easier time. I'm hoping it works out or I will give up on holidays completely.

I might look at a ferry to France next year, but can't be bothered with international travel with COVID, a dog and a tantruming toddler.

If I could go all inclusive in a small hotel with decent facilities in UK that would be ideal, but I don't see many places like it.
