Mum thinks this dress isn't right for wedding

Going to a wedding in a couple weeks. Saw a gorgeous bardot dress, loved it, fiance loved it so ordered it and I love it in real life too. However I sent a pic to my mum who just texted back "I don't like it for a wedding" then didn't say why or anymore? Am I breaking some kind of etiquette? Clueless about these things. Most weddings I've been too I've been the bridesmaid or the bride and don't have a clue how guests dressed. I do remember a wedding a few years back where I wore a red polka dot dress. Don't know if that was breaking any etiquette rules. I do believe that mother likes that dress though! I will attach a pic of the dress!

It's not a church wedding. I like that someone commented that I should wear something that's more "me" . If I bought something specifically like what I'm supposed to wear I wouldn't wear it again.

In my world people have at least one outfit, that is suitable for occasions like weddings or theaters. Assuming everyone goes to a wedding every few years or so.

Some weird comments about churches here - not sure why you can't have uncovered shoulders in one.
I don't particularly like the dress (each to their own) but I don't see what's wrong with it for a wedding.

Your wearing that in October? You’ll will be cold. But not wedding attire this is a casual weekend high summer dress.

@Fcuk38

This post is from April
No reason she would be wearing it now she didn't wear it anyway

LifeIsaRollerCoaster1 · 24/09/2022 10:40

Was about to say you'll be a bit chilly going to an October wedding in it if it's in the uk, then noticed it was an April post, pretty sure you've been to your wedding by now.

LimpBiskit · 24/09/2022 10:41

Lovely dress but as others have said, too informal and a bit short. Depends on the nature and location of the wedding though.

Religious conventions around decorum and modesty mostly. It’s not unusual in religious buildings across most faiths although western Christian congregations vary a lot.

If I was attending a church wedding where I was unfamiliar with the congregation I’d dress on the conservative side out of respect for the usage of the building I was in same as I would in a Gurdwara or synagogue.

Unsuitable for a Wedding.

That's informal beachwear.

It looks like a beach dress or a day dress for holiday. It is really nothing like a dress for a wedding guest.

It’s definitely not right for a wedding - unless the wedding is being held at a pool bar in Benidorm

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 24/09/2022 12:37

Zombie it might be, but I’m still glad to read that she chose something else. IMO a smaller size in that dress would have been fine for a pink-loving 5 or 6 year old - I’m sure my little Gdd would have loved it. Not so sure now that she’s 7. 😉

CakeMonster1 · 24/09/2022 12:43

That's a beach/holiday type dress definitely not suitable for a wedding.

You obviously haven’t seen what she went with in the end. Keep scrolling.

Hey original poster back here. Can't believe this post went viral 😳🤣here is the dress I went for in the end. Hopefully it's appropriate and ticks all the boxes etiquette wise.
