Mum thinks this dress isn't right for wedding

Going to a wedding in a couple weeks. Saw a gorgeous bardot dress, loved it, fiance loved it so ordered it and I love it in real life too. However I sent a pic to my mum who just texted back "I don't like it for a wedding" then didn't say why or anymore? Am I breaking some kind of etiquette? Clueless about these things. Most weddings I've been too I've been the bridesmaid or the bride and don't have a clue how guests dressed. I do remember a wedding a few years back where I wore a red polka dot dress. Don't know if that was breaking any etiquette rules. I do believe that mother likes that dress though! I will attach a pic of the dress!

Are you being serious? If you've been to weddings and had a wedding, you know people don't generally wear things like this, you would look massively underdressed.
Try googling wedding guest dresses to get an idea if you're that clueless.

RedDiamond · 25/04/2022 22:38

How old are you? Less than 20 you could be forgiven. More than 20 then it does seem a little disrespective..

Undertheoldlindentree · 25/04/2022 22:40

Just too short and informal for a wedding. Maybe it would work as a top, with white wide-legged linen trousers and a hat. But as a dress, no, sorry.

KitBumbleB · 25/04/2022 22:40

Wear it if you like it.
Surely its better for your wallet and planet to buy a dress you will wear again

christmascrazylady · 25/04/2022 22:41

I agree with your mum. Weddings are a great opportunity to dress up more formally. This dress is more suited to a casual outing

SerialNameChanger2114 · 25/04/2022 22:43

Sorry, I’d not normally comment on any photos about how people dress, but I’d agree it’s too casual. Drinks in a pub garden on a sunny day - yes. A wedding? No.

Cas112 · 25/04/2022 22:44

It's a nice dress but yes just not right for a wedding. To casual for a wedding, I would just wear that on a warm summers day

LetHimHaveIt · 25/04/2022 22:45

A £16 Boohoo dress is not wedding attire, no.

confusedmummy123 · 25/04/2022 22:45

It's not a church wedding. I like that someone commented that I should wear something that's more "me" . If I bought something specifically like what I'm supposed to wear I wouldn't wear it again.

Too short and too casual for a wedding. Looks like a beach dress.

HMSSophia · 25/04/2022 22:46

Nope it's "I'm having fun" not " yay bride and groom"

Ooh, you’d have judged me. The dress I wore at my own actual wedding only cost me £40…

Viviennemary · 25/04/2022 22:47

It isn't really suitable for a wedding and a definite no no in a church.

BogRollBOGOF · 25/04/2022 22:47

It's very beachy.
If it was full length, the top would be OK for some weddings.

It's got a lot of leg, and a lot of shoulder and a lot of arm. Formal occasions/ outfits tend to go for one of those. The fabric also looks like it's casual too.

It's pretty, but very informal.

AfterSchoolWorry · 25/04/2022 22:47

Way too casual.

Barely enough to keep yourself in stockings and fans . . .

nearlyspringyay · 25/04/2022 22:49

It's nice but looks like a beach cover up.

Snugglepumpkin · 25/04/2022 22:49

It is a lovely dress, but it's really casual & looks like something you'd chuck on over a swimsuit at the beach rather than something you'd wear to a wedding.

MaryBeardsShoes · 25/04/2022 22:50

It’s too casual for sure, but posters saying you have to cover up in a church are talking nonsense and I say that as someone who works weddings in churches.

TokyoSushi · 25/04/2022 22:51

Holiday/pub beer garden, yes. Wedding, no.

bellabasset · 25/04/2022 22:51

Is your dh going to be wearing a suit or cut off jeans and a bright shirt? If it's a suit then not an outfit that's great for a beach or BBQ. Go for a more formal look with a pretty dress.

Lovemypeaceandquiet · 25/04/2022 22:52

Each to their own but it’s too causal for me. Is your partner wearing a suit?

Neverhot · 25/04/2022 22:52

Way too informal and definitely more for beach, sorry!

GraceandMolly · 25/04/2022 22:52

It’s a pretty dress, but I tend to agree it has too much of a beach party vibe to it.

Tabitha888 · 25/04/2022 22:54

It really looks like a beach dress. Imagine going there and feeling underdressed. Best tip I do, it buy second hand dresses of eBay or boohoo. There cheap. And then I sell them on as I know I won't wear the again. Cost just a fraction of an occasion dress. Have a look at web pages like next, phase eight and Hobbs for inspiration. Then find your vibes and go for 2nd hand options. No one needs to know. I got a Jenny packham one for £20 on eBay and resold it for a tenner! Wedding guest dressing doesn't have to be expensive. Btw that dress is so cute, but defo a summer dress xx
