Mum thinks this dress isn't right for wedding

Going to a wedding in a couple weeks. Saw a gorgeous bardot dress, loved it, fiance loved it so ordered it and I love it in real life too. However I sent a pic to my mum who just texted back "I don't like it for a wedding" then didn't say why or anymore? Am I breaking some kind of etiquette? Clueless about these things. Most weddings I've been too I've been the bridesmaid or the bride and don't have a clue how guests dressed. I do remember a wedding a few years back where I wore a red polka dot dress. Don't know if that was breaking any etiquette rules. I do believe that mother likes that dress though! I will attach a pic of the dress!

I'm convinced that this thread is a piss take now to be honest.

GrannyRose15 · 27/04/2022 19:29

Your Mum is right.

Txauntie98 · 27/04/2022 19:31

I must be getting used to the casual dress in Texas. It looks fine to me. It's standard attire where I live for young women to dress that way, even at a wedding.

HouseOfGoldandBones · 27/04/2022 19:35

Sorry OP, I don't think it's suitable for a wedding. It's the equivalent to a man wearing shorts & a t shirt.

Kat1953 · 27/04/2022 19:38

I think its fine op :) Depends how you style it on the day tbh but casual dresses can look really lovely at weddings if dress them the right way.

The neck line is gorgeous, really flattering as is the sleeve length :)

I suspect the angle of the photo and the socks are putting some people off 😁

😂it has to be right?

Heronwatcher · 27/04/2022 19:42

OP sorry but the new one is, if anything, worse. What fabric is it? It looks like stuff I see people wearing for the school run or the park- I probably wouldn’t even wear it for work. I’d say for a wedding think longer, decent fabric (like cotton/ linen), and lined or properly made. You can get great stuff in charity shops so it doesn’t need to be expensive, but it’s got to be well made and not as casual as the ones you’ve picked. Can your mum take you shopping? She seems to get it.

ZealAndArdour · 27/04/2022 19:09

Oh dear, the update is perhaps worse than the original, it looks like it needs a pair of leggings under it and a trip to soft play 😯

This!!

Skelligsfeathers · 27/04/2022 19:44

What size are? How much do you want to spend? What size are you and how old are you?
Let us find you something better, please!

Takingshape12 · 27/04/2022 19:45

2nd dress even worse. I'd wear that on the school run ffs

ArtVandalay · 27/04/2022 19:50

Oh OP. Dress 2 is possibly worse, sorry.

Even at the most informal of weddings, you will stick out like a sore - and can’t be bothered- thumb. It’s akin to leggings and a tshirt.

I’m assuming your budget is very low, but there are loads of style mavens on here that could find you something lovely and still cheap.

LookItsMeAgain · 27/04/2022 19:51

You're not going to the pub for a few pints with your mates, you are going to a wedding @confusedmummy123 . Why are you picking dresses that are more suitable for either going to the beach or going down pub?

I know I posted suggestions a few 100 posts or so back. Others have also posted suggestions about what would be more suitable. Why are you ignoring these suggestions?

I honestly give up at this point because it is very clear that you have NO clue and NO desire to wear wedding appropriate clothing to your friend's wedding.

worriedaboutmoney2022 · 27/04/2022 19:51

Sorry it's what I'd put on over a bikini on the beach then not even bother bringing home, the fabric looks cheap and flimsy

crowisland · 27/04/2022 19:51

second dress looks like a dress to garden in, not to attend a wedding!

guerrillagirl · 27/04/2022 19:51

Love how you styled it with the dirty socks 😂

Toponeniceone · 27/04/2022 19:51

The dirty socks are a great touch.

Kat1953 · 27/04/2022 19:55

@confusedmummy123 if you're swayed by most opinions on Dress 2 then take a look at Asos -> Dresses -> Wedding Guest Dresses

I think you'll find something there that meets your style while winning over MN opinion 😉

mnahmnah · 27/04/2022 19:56

After the second dress, yes it absolutely is a piss take.

ArtVandalay · 27/04/2022 19:58

I too am starting to think we’ve been had 🤨

SomersetONeil · 27/04/2022 20:01

This thread is hilarious. The socks! Grin 🧦🧦

As for dress No. 2 🤦🏻‍♀️🫣

SailingNotSurfing · 27/04/2022 20:03

The first dress is lovely for sunbathing in, for chucking on over a cossie to get another Pina Colada, the second dress is revolting.

I'm going to a wedding in a few weeks, in a stately home, and I wouldn't wear either dress. I think it's a bit insulting to the bride and groom to make such little effort.

Pipsquiggle · 27/04/2022 20:13

Hi OP I am afraid both dresses are not great for a wedding.

Dress No1. - beach holiday dress

Dress No2. - mumsy, something you'd wear at school drop off or an informal coffee catch up.

Think about if you went to races - google images - some of the hats are a bit OTT but you get my drift

Hmm1234 · 27/04/2022 20:15

Looks like a beach holiday outfit. Maybe have a look at what the other attendees have brought

71Isla · 27/04/2022 20:15

Again, another lovely dress but I see that as going for brunch with my friends!

changeroorooroo · 27/04/2022 20:18

OP I'll take the heat off you. Here's what I'm wearing to my best friends wedding next month 😅Have at you, vipers!
