Mum thinks this dress isn't right for wedding

Going to a wedding in a couple weeks. Saw a gorgeous bardot dress, loved it, fiance loved it so ordered it and I love it in real life too. However I sent a pic to my mum who just texted back "I don't like it for a wedding" then didn't say why or anymore? Am I breaking some kind of etiquette? Clueless about these things. Most weddings I've been too I've been the bridesmaid or the bride and don't have a clue how guests dressed. I do remember a wedding a few years back where I wore a red polka dot dress. Don't know if that was breaking any etiquette rules. I do believe that mother likes that dress though! I will attach a pic of the dress!

Definite no no for a wedding. Fine on a beach or holiday. Just too short and no neckline makes it very casual and informal.

71Isla · 27/04/2022 18:44

It's a lovely dress but quite casual for a wedding. I would see that as beach holiday wear.

Hey original poster back here. Can't believe this post went viral 😳🤣here is the dress I went for in the end. Hopefully it's appropriate and ticks all the boxes etiquette wise.

I imagined this comment being screamed at me, personal trainer style. Blimey. Are you a motivational speaker or Slimming World consultant?

haha @rainbowmilk I hear MLM team leader/Girl Boss...

LoveAllCakes · 27/04/2022 18:58

I always liked the pink one, I’m sure when you’re all done up, hair, makeup, heels etc you’ll look great. Hope you have a lovely time at the wedding.

Noangelbuthavingfun · 27/04/2022 18:58

It's much better, but still not very elegant - however if your style is more fun, young and casual then you could just about get away with it. It's definitely not a beach wedding right ? Wear some colorful or gold or silver heels with it, a nice bag and jewellery and it will work for your style.

No point wearing something that most people would wear and you never would... this dress isn't showing too much flesh which is important. Have fun !

TooManyPJs · 27/04/2022 18:58

It's like something you'd wear to the beach to stick over your cozzie. Or wear in your garden on a hot day. Bit too informal for a wedding.

DaveGrohlsMrs · 27/04/2022 18:59

It depends on the venue and if it’s a super casual wedding or not. Nice dress but not very “weddingy”! Boohoo have some lovely reasonably priced “occasion wear” dresses.

LoisLane66 · 27/04/2022 18:59

It all depends on your age and your figure (size)

ZealAndArdour · 27/04/2022 19:01

It’s too informal, it’s looks like it’s meant to be thrown over a bikini on the beach. It’s rather short too.

TooManyPJs · 27/04/2022 19:01

Dress 2 is also way too casual. And also not v nice. Looks a bit like one of my work tunics!

You have a lovely figure. You can do so much better!!

Yes I agree also too short.

It's still quite casual...but some bright heels & done hair might pull it together.

ZealAndArdour · 27/04/2022 19:09

Oh dear, the update is perhaps worse than the original, it looks like it needs a pair of leggings under it and a trip to soft play 😯

Bignanny30 · 27/04/2022 19:10

I love the dress, lovely for summer evenings but a bit informal for a wedding. You may look a bit underdressed and feel a bit out of place.

.....wear this pink one.

This is a nightie isn't it...

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 27/04/2022 19:14

@confusedmummy123 - the new dress is quite informal - but that is partly how it’s (not) accessorised in that picture - if it’s dressed up with nice shoes, something in your hair, perhaps, and maybe a nice wrap or jacket, it will look OK.

Yep I agree. As bad as the fist one is at least it's a little bit 'dressy'.

EscapeTheCastle · 27/04/2022 19:22

Another casual dress.
OP you're most certainly winding us all up here and it's working.
Posters are trying very hard to save you from yourself.

Willowsodyssey · 27/04/2022 19:25

It’s very pretty but a bit too casual for a wedding-have you thought of hiring an outfit for the day?

DSGR · 27/04/2022 19:25

Sorry but I agree it’s a beach or holiday dress. It might be “you” but this isn’t about you.. If you don’t want opinions don’t ask, but it really is too casual

BennyBean · 27/04/2022 19:26

Sorry looks like an inexpensive beach dress i would not wear that to a wedding nor let my daughter
