Mum thinks this dress isn't right for wedding

Going to a wedding in a couple weeks. Saw a gorgeous bardot dress, loved it, fiance loved it so ordered it and I love it in real life too. However I sent a pic to my mum who just texted back "I don't like it for a wedding" then didn't say why or anymore? Am I breaking some kind of etiquette? Clueless about these things. Most weddings I've been too I've been the bridesmaid or the bride and don't have a clue how guests dressed. I do remember a wedding a few years back where I wore a red polka dot dress. Don't know if that was breaking any etiquette rules. I do believe that mother likes that dress though! I will attach a pic of the dress!

Not a dress for a wedding. Unless you are a teen. People tend to dress up as a sigh of respect.

Have you considered hiring something?

Noooo way. So informal. I’d wear that on the beach over a bikini x

allflownthenest · 26/04/2022 09:23

I'm all for wearing what you are happy and comfortable in. I think it's lovely, go for it

Itloggedmeoutagain · 26/04/2022 09:29

Beach dress.

Beach dress

OnoNotagain · 26/04/2022 09:31

I'm on the "too casual" team too. Sorry OP. Too short and too informal. Lovely for a summer party, but not a wedding.,

PlayGIBluff · 26/04/2022 09:31

I feel like we’ve an insight into how things are for poor mum too 😂pretty much unanimous thread on how it’s totally unsuitable yet @confusedmummy123 only response is to say she wouldn’t re wear something suitable. Sounds like she will be wearing the pool side dress regardless!

Kettlesnettles · 26/04/2022 09:31

only ok if you are a teenager

Kettlesnettles · 26/04/2022 09:32

only ok if you are a teenager and this is a beach wedding

Dozycuntlaters · 26/04/2022 09:35

I looked at the photo and thought looks lovely for a summer wedding. This is 2022, I think wedding attire etiquette is almost as outdated as actual weddings.

And why are people asking how many times OP has been a bride - she is only asking for an opinion on a dress. This site gets madder and madder, I se opinions on here I literally never hear voiced in the real world.

OP wear it, it's fine.

SVRT19674 · 26/04/2022 09:36

I wear dresses like that to the beach, I would never wear it to a wedding, unless said wedding was on the beach in Ibiza. Lovely colour.

Ragged · 26/04/2022 09:39

I don't find it flattering on the model (shapeless, but colour is fine). I hope it looks great on you, OP, wherever you wear it.

CoralPaperweight · 26/04/2022 09:39

Sorry OP agreeing with everyone else saying not for a wedding. I think it's the combination of the colour, being off the shoulder and short that's the issue. You could wear off the shoulder maxi or midi dress, or a shorter dress that has sleeves, etc etc.

Something like this may work better www.boohoo.com/off-the-shoulder-dip-hem-skater-dress/DZZ82559.html?color=730

SVRT19674 · 26/04/2022 09:39

I wear that kind of dress to the beach, I would only wear it to a wedding if said wedding was on the beach in Ibiza. Lovely colour. Oh and also not appropriate if a church wedding (when you will actually be at church).

MaryShelley1818 · 26/04/2022 09:39

It's a beach cover up, sort of dress you'd wear with flip flops or flat sandals.
I appreciate you wanting to wear something you're comfortable in but you'd stand out like a sore thumb in that at a wedding and probably end up feeling really silly.

I wouldn’t wear it to a wedding, that looks super informal, something I’d wear on holiday to the beach. It is lovely though, just not for a wedding!
