to think the ‘Great reset’ is a good thing?

First things first. I’ve always been a huge fan of Klaus Schwab. He’s a pioneer and a thought leader, and sounds like Arnold Schwarzenegger channeling David Attenborough. He’s an intellectual colossus.

With that in mind, I had to tune my brain to ‘objective’ mode.

I spent a lot of time alone in the woodland this weekend, both figuratively and literally smelling the bluebells. I’ve reflected, ruminated and re-evaluated the concepts, and decided that yes - indeed:

’You will own nothing and be happy’.

Jeff Bezos is another personal hero. Say what you want about employees urinating in bottles in order to meet targets - the man knows how to get things done. I for one don’t want to own a lawnmower - it takes up space.

If Jeff can drone me a flymo when needed, so that the 1 square metre of lawn I have outside ‘my’ (by which I mean Blackstone’s) bijou capsule studio can be freshly mown, and then whisked off to another persons patch as required, then that’s a world I can get on board with.

I for one cannot wait for my phone to ping with a constant stream of micropayment notifications as I inhale oxygen and emit CO2. I’m already purchasing carbon credits to deal with my personal emissions.

Is anyone else looking forward to it?

Jeff Bezos is the head of consumerism. How does that fit in your picture?

It’s not her picture, for God’s sake. This is what the self appointed overlords are doing.

I like how the subject has gone over the heads of half the thread. It's happening already. Why do you think fuel, income tax, inflation, utilities, cars, council tax, affordability rate for mortgages et al have shot up at virtually the same time? When has that happened before?
I’ll go for the worldwide pandemic plus the war in Ukraine.

Probably a sprinkling of Brexit for those in the UK too.

The economically weakest are now getting voted off the island.

Income tax was supposed to be a temporary war time measure, IIRC (yes, I’m that old 😃)

This is probably useful background reading to the thread.

Sounds dystopian to me. I want the right to own things. What's the alternative? If it's as a PP said, we rent everything, no thank you. I'd rather have the option to own. If it's some hippy-dippy nonsense about everyone owning everything and no-one owning anything, I don't think it can work. Too many people don't take care of things, as it is. If we don't personally own something, there's less incentive to take care of it. Everything will go to shit.

Not my idea of paradise.

I thought this was one of the old eleventy billion loon threads about the WEF having manufactured Covid on purpose that survived the Mass Deletions from the Covid boards back in the day.

I'm assuming you're joking but by 10pm there will be posters on here who actually believe this stuff Grin

And Italy is trailblazing for Europe with their new social credit app! theparadise.ng/new-social-credit-app-to-reward-italian-citizens-for-virtuous-behavior/

How cool will it be when we have it too! Can't wait to be more like China.

When they did satirical sketches in Monty Python, they would flash up a card on the screen that said 'SATIRE' in big block letters, in case people missed it. I feel we need something similar here....

Yup.

But it is sort of complicated here because the OP is conspiracy theorist, so the satire is coming from an odd place.

No they aren't.
A tech guy and local councillor in one Italian city proposed the use of an app which would hold the person's local "good citizen" info on it. Council tax bills paid, any parking fines etc. The (mainly local) newspapers went warp speed conspiracy theory (as you can imagine) while serious commentators laughed the guy off stage.
The story (from about the beginning of April iirc) never made the national news but did appear in a couple of national newspapers. It's been mentioned a few times obviously on the Italian Snopes style websites as having caused a fuckton of "we're going to end up like China and oooh look they got Covid first then we did" conspiracies (bit like the rubbish talked about in the blog you link)

In which way am I a conspiracy theorist?! 😂

please, go ahead and pull up previous posts of mine that are examples and post them. I’m genuinely curious?

Ooooh how do ya know. Shock Is 'advanced search' back?'

SwanBuster · 25/04/2022 20:53

To save searching - here are my thoughts and posts on a variety of topics. If you search more, you’ll see I’ve backed some of the aspects that people have claimed can’t be true about my personal life with evidence.

  • I think landlords are generally uneducated regarding investment, and lack creative thinking

  • I think the benefits system is deliberately designed with loopholes that are rational to exploit, because of effective marginal tax rates, but is also a trap because of the savings limit

  • I own a very nice Tesla outright

  • I’m a very high earner, who sticks 40k in their pension per year

  • I do uneconomic food deliveries out of stoic principles (indeed I did one in the inter ending time between posting the op and around now)

  • I’ve questioned whether tipping habits have changed with the cost of living crisis, based on my experience doing food delivery

  • I think house prices are insane, and the government and banks have been myopic in their thinking over the last 25 years at best, and deliberately disenfranchised generations at worst

I could go on.

I recall one prior interaction with you (at that time I was posting under a different username). Was a thread to do with whether cars are really necessary for a lot of people.

I piped up that, where I live, there are car-sharing schemes. The schemes allow people like me, who only really need a car occasionally, to book one on an app, do what I need with it, then leave the car anywhere within the city limits when I’m done. The schemes have been very successful over the last decade or so, and are a great option for those who aren’t driving regularly.

You promptly piped up with the ‘You will own nothing and be happy’ nonsense, as if it were all somehow a sinister ploy.

No doubt Blockbuster Video was the thin end of the wedge.
