to think the ‘Great reset’ is a good thing?

First things first. I’ve always been a huge fan of Klaus Schwab. He’s a pioneer and a thought leader, and sounds like Arnold Schwarzenegger channeling David Attenborough. He’s an intellectual colossus.

With that in mind, I had to tune my brain to ‘objective’ mode.

I spent a lot of time alone in the woodland this weekend, both figuratively and literally smelling the bluebells. I’ve reflected, ruminated and re-evaluated the concepts, and decided that yes - indeed:

’You will own nothing and be happy’.

Jeff Bezos is another personal hero. Say what you want about employees urinating in bottles in order to meet targets - the man knows how to get things done. I for one don’t want to own a lawnmower - it takes up space.

If Jeff can drone me a flymo when needed, so that the 1 square metre of lawn I have outside ‘my’ (by which I mean Blackstone’s) bijou capsule studio can be freshly mown, and then whisked off to another persons patch as required, then that’s a world I can get on board with.

I for one cannot wait for my phone to ping with a constant stream of micropayment notifications as I inhale oxygen and emit CO2. I’m already purchasing carbon credits to deal with my personal emissions.

Is anyone else looking forward to it?

@Ratrick the only thread about cars I seem to have posted on is this one

www.mumsnet.com/talk/am_i_being_unreasonable/4521886-AIBU-to-not-want-an-electric-car

Where I talked at length about EV ownership from the perspective of an EV owner. Pros and cons in I believe a pretty balanced way.

You’re quite right OP, I confused you with another poster. Sincere apologies for that.

SwanBuster · 25/04/2022 21:14

Oh and by the way, I’ve never changed my username. I’m sure HQ would be happy to confirm that if it comes down to you accusing me of that too.

Come on @Ratrick - show me the thread. If I did it, and I could have I guess but I don’t recall it at all, I will be the first to apologise. If not, I expect the courtesy of the same.

Apologies back @Ratrick - I’m perhaps over sensitive because I’ve been accused of lying multiple times on here (perhaps because indeed I do do bizarre things 😂) but I’ve always backed them up with evidence when that happens!

When they said "you will own nothing and be happy", by that they weren't including themselves. Why don't they want to be happy too I wonder.

Because happiness has nothing to do with owning stuff. They never said that they won’t be happy owning everything 🤷🏻‍♀️.

They are just doing it for purely altruistic and benevolent reasons because it’s absolutely been proven that the great unwashed are incapable of moderating their consumption. We need to have our ‘needs’ doled out to us in bite size chunks as and when the moment and the need coincide. And this utopia will truly let us transcend to the next level of humanity.

My brother and his wife talk about the great reset. According to them the pandemic was a test to see which workers are needed to keep the world running properly, there'll be no cash and we'll all have to work like slaves to get credits in our bank for food. Oh and we'll all have to live in communes. 🥺

☺️ Sounds idyllic!

I for one trained myself at Glastonbury in the 90s to absolutely love communal mixed showering, so I’m ready!

A We Forum endeavour, just search on the web? You'll find lots about it. Also called fourth industrial revolution. Klaus wrote a book with this as the title, which would be the best introduction. You can buy from Amazon.

I missed this post earlier. It’s perfection!

The final ‘You can buy it from Amazon’ is sensational. higher satire than I could ever aspire to!

No offense op , but most people I have heard talking about this subject also tend to be anti the vaccine. I'm not suggesting you are at all , but a few people I know who are very vocal about the ' poison ' they want us to have also have a conspiracy theory or four about the 'great reset ' or why places won't take cash anymore as well as a few other things about the recent pandemic and how lockdown was only to 'pull the wool ' about what was ' really going on '.
(Or maybe it's just the sort of people I know !)
I try to keep an open mind though. Life isn't what it once was, I think we can all say this to be fair?

I don't believe in most conspiracies but someone made a point about the way everything has shot up in price all at the same time, and how it's never happened before. Tbh I do find that very odd. Since covid the world has turned upside down.

PinkiOcelot · 25/04/2022 21:41

I think you did more than sniff the bluebells OP.

SwanBuster · 25/04/2022 21:43

basically, I think the world is crazy enough that yeah, I can get myself vaccinated because I’d rather not get I’ll and at the same time, believe that the premise behind things like ‘You’ll own nothing and be happy’ might be worthy of some degree of investigation.

I’m not really a conspiracy theorist so much as I
I’m a ‘follow the money’ cynic. Which I shamelessly also exploit through where I allocate capital (providing it’s not on residential property or something environmentally destructive).

This is what happens when the money supply is grossly inflated in a very short period of time.

There is a lag and then boom!

Can I ask a serious question, where does your pension fund get invested?

I feel that you might know this, and that in rl we could be friends and then probably hate each other Smile

Well they're right about this.... and they're probably right about that.

With your open mind, think about things the other way.

The bulk of it is in a SIPP (so self invested). I transfer from the company one to it annually, or whenever there’s a good transfer offfer.

I’m basically (trying to at least) doing a modern skew on the permanent portfolio. So 20% cash (I know it seems pointless, but it’s fine, I’ll deploy it if needed), 25% crypto/precious metals, and in my case …. 40% global equities in a passive tracker.

the final 15% is to play with direct equities. That can be anything that takes my fancy or I think might be heavily undervalued. If something goes up a lot, I sell a percentage of it. If it goes down - I take it on the chin and hope the winners do well.

I rebalance as necessary periodically.

So far it’s fine. I should hit the LTA (lifetime allowance) even if I just put in the remaining contribs as cash, so I’ll probably slow it down soon and put the money to work outside that wrapper.

Why do people talk about conspiracies like they're these rare things?

So ordinary people conspire to murder, deal drugs, grow drugs, conspire to commit terrorism etc. etc. - are the police working on those cases conspiracy theorists? Well yes, they are, and they are correct.

Now, you know that ordinary folk often with two brain cells can conspire and pull off sometimes large conspiracies (more than two people conspiring to do an act) but you can't accept that those with access to all the world's media and funds can pull of a conspiracy globally, even though they literally hold meetings that are not open to the public and their contents are kept secret.

That is an impressive mental block to say the least. Of course they do, why wouldn't they? Because they're so good?

Hesma · 25/04/2022 22:31

Sounds a bit like the Lorax to me… good old Dr. Seuss😄

reeeeeeee · 25/04/2022 22:32

Just had another thought; they will accept that a group of untrained pilots blew up three buildings with two planes, miraculously, yet a global group of career politicians couldn't and wouldn't ever do anything like that oh nooo.

It might be time to face reality for these people, if they ever come out of their houses again.

SwanBuster · 25/04/2022 22:33

The crypto part is annoying as it’s impossible now to rebalance it because the stupid FCA stopped us being allowed to buy the ETFs. You can only sell, not buy. Which means I have to use direct equity ‘proxies’ like for instance coinbase or square/ microstrategy to get some sort of exposure.

the FCA banned it right at the start of the last bull run to ‘protect retail investors’. my sipp provider stopped allowing investments end oct 2020.

A fantastic decision on their part 🤦‍♀️

It meant I lost out on 400% gains.
