To not want to sit on mouldy garden furniture?

hippohippohippo · 16/04/2022 21:45

Visit to the in laws, sat in the garden. I notice there are mould spots on the garden furniture cushions myself and DS are sat on and am a bit grossed out by this, so suggest MIL might want to clean this off, and i go change mine and DS's clothes. Cue MIL getting angry about my overreaction leading to DH suggesting we go home early - AIBU?

Yes.
Y are B U.
(Is this even a real thread?!)

catgirl1976 · 16/04/2022 23:57

Are you on glue?

Shabtipup · 16/04/2022 23:57

Mental sorry Flowers hope you can overcome this

CatWoman12345 · 17/04/2022 00:01

You need to apologise- that was very rude and unkind.

SquirrelG · 17/04/2022 00:19

Completely over the top reaction.

VyeBrator · 17/04/2022 00:20

If you were my DIL I'd suggest you go fuck yourself.

But thankfully my DIL doesn't think she's lady of the manor and if a bit of mould bothered her, she'd get up and clean it herself as she understands I'm not her servant.

SquirrelG · 17/04/2022 00:20

Oh, and I meant to add, if you were so worried why didn't you clean the furniture yourself. You were very rude.

EmmiJay · 17/04/2022 00:26

Nah. Don't blame you for changing your clothes. I cannot 'do' mould of any sort.

Sparklesocks · 17/04/2022 00:27

You sound a bit precious in all honesty

SeaToSki · 17/04/2022 01:05

You might have over reacted, but if MIL was openly angry with you then her over reaction was more over the top that yours (if that makes sense!)

ouch321 · 17/04/2022 01:07

Hahaha

Blatantly yes unreasonable

SheilaWilde · 17/04/2022 01:12

I would've been out of there in a shot! Mildew can self combust and cause a massive explosion!!!

Except it can't and you should've just got on with your day.

AfterSchoolWorry · 17/04/2022 01:21

That was rude.

BritWifeInUSA · 17/04/2022 01:27

You might want to change your shoes too. If you walked in the garden you walked over ground/grass that foxes, cats, and other other animals have peed on.

TheChosenTwo · 17/04/2022 01:31

Very overdramatic and unnecessary.
You caused a palaver over nothing.
You owe your in-laws an apology!

BritWifeInUSA · 17/04/2022 01:38

From your previous posts, OP, I really think you need to relax a little. You are taking PFB to a whole new level. A little dirt won’t kill you.

ImanAccountant · 17/04/2022 01:45

Erm yes.. you were ridiculous but your other posts are just as ridiculous, you probably need to get some help for your anxiety.

HoppingPavlova · 17/04/2022 02:08

What sort of mould are you referring to, fresh powdery green stuff that puffs out everywhere when you disturb it or the standard outdoor furniture black mould? The response would dictate my answer.

Treesandsheepeverywhere · 17/04/2022 02:14

How would you feel if the roles were reversed OP, your MIL going to change because she sat on some mould on your garden chairs?

Lots of ways you could have handled it but you chose to insult the host/MIL.

You reacted in a rational way to you.
She reacted to that in her own rational way. Most agree with her.
You owe her an apology.

Walkingalot · 17/04/2022 02:14

Unless there were mushrooms growing off of it then you are completely unreasonable. Can't you see this?
How on earth are you going to cope with the crawling stage and toddler years. That will totally freak you out.
Look, I'm sure you have your reasons, massive health anxiety etc but
I think you need to apologise to MIL.

fallfallfall · 17/04/2022 02:25

you live on a damp wet island (most likely) and your worried about mold on spring garden furniture?

1forAll74 · 17/04/2022 02:36

Why did you not get some soapy water and stuff, and get the garden stuff all cleaned up, instead of complaining about your clothes. Nit picking people are very annoying.

unname · 17/04/2022 02:43

I went to a party where the furniture was like this. I couldn’t wait to leave actually and found it every uncomfortable.

I think with family it should be okay to speak up but I am not surprised your MIL didn’t appreciate it.

marvellousmaple · 17/04/2022 03:38

This is funny. Also , do you always travel with spare pants? Poor MIL.

HELLITHURT · 17/04/2022 04:04

Total over reaction! Why did you have spare clothes abs why was it not important your DH also changed?
