To not want to sit on mouldy garden furniture?

hippohippohippo · 16/04/2022 21:45

Visit to the in laws, sat in the garden. I notice there are mould spots on the garden furniture cushions myself and DS are sat on and am a bit grossed out by this, so suggest MIL might want to clean this off, and i go change mine and DS's clothes. Cue MIL getting angry about my overreaction leading to DH suggesting we go home early - AIBU?

🤣 shes absolutely right wtf is wrong with you.

crochetmonkey74 · 16/04/2022 21:47

This is a massive overreaction. You didnt need to change clothes

SophiesMummySaid · 16/04/2022 21:47

We’re they just mildew black spots? If so I think you did overreact.

cameocat · 16/04/2022 21:47

Not exactly pleasant but I think your reaction was over the top to want to change your clothes. Obviously I don't know how mouldy!

Pyri · 16/04/2022 21:48

Grin what did you think would happen to you if the mould spots touched your clothing?!

MartinMartinMarti · 16/04/2022 21:49

You sound unhinged.

Blimecory · 16/04/2022 21:49

Eh? You’re being ridiculous. This can’t be genuine.

DatingAWidower22 · 16/04/2022 21:49

Completely over the top! Where did you get the spare clothes from? I have an image of you wearing your MILs clothes!

Vsirbdo · 16/04/2022 21:51

I don’t really see the issue; you could have just gone Joel and changed clothes if you didn’t like it

pamplemoussee · 16/04/2022 21:51

This must be a joke ... ?

hippohippohippo · 16/04/2022 21:52

@Pyri

Grin what did you think would happen to you if the mould spots touched your clothing?!
No short term worries but DS is 9 months and spends most of his time eating my and his clothes.

Depends on the mould, black mildew mould probably a bit precious. That green powdery mould that clings to your clothes/ puffs up when disturbed then fair enough.

StoneofDestiny · 16/04/2022 21:53

So you took spare clothes to MIL's and stood up for the rest of the day?

WimpyKidYouNot · 16/04/2022 21:56

This personally wouldn’t bother me but fair enough if it bothers you. The question is therefore could you have handled it differently. From your description yes you could/should have.

Jubaju · 16/04/2022 21:58

Why didn’t you just clean it off yourself 😂
Weird

PotteringAlong · 16/04/2022 22:01

Even if he ate the mould he would probably be fine! He’s 9 months old. It’s summer. He will be wolfing down soil by next week!

You have completely overreacted and owe your MiL an apology.

RewildingAmbridge · 16/04/2022 22:03

I get why you would have spare clothes for a nine month old, but why were you carrying a spare set?? If you sit on any public benches/furniture you've sat in worse

hangrylady · 16/04/2022 22:03

You were rude as fuck

GrabbyAbbie · 16/04/2022 22:05

Wouldn't even notice nor care about a bit of mould.

Bunnybingesoneggs · 16/04/2022 22:07

Reverse?

Pyri · 16/04/2022 22:07

If your 9 month old actually eats your clothes and his own then I’d suggest you have bigger problems than sitting on a dirty chair Wink

Imlovinglife · 16/04/2022 22:08

Sounds like you're being a bit precious.

Everyone has endured far worse as part of "enjoying a British summer"

shabbalabba · 16/04/2022 22:13

@hippohippohippo you are aware that there are mould spores in the air all around us! You breath in lots of moulds and other microbes with every single breath. I wouldn't sweat over it!

FabFitFifties · 16/04/2022 22:14

It depends how you addressed it. Also depends on whether you have anxiety issues that MIL is aware of. If so, she could of been a bit more understanding. The image your OP conjures up, is you rudely over reacting, unfortunately.
