Supermarket when you’re covid positive

Not to start a bunfight, I just want to know. Would you go supermarket shopping when you were testing positive?

OP posts:
MintJulia · 15/04/2022 15:41

If I was feeling ok and needed food, yes.

I'd mask up and go at 6.30am, get it done before many people are around.

stayathomer · 15/04/2022 15:42

Wouid you go to the shops with a cold?
Would you go to a shop with measles or shingles?

DailyMailHater · 15/04/2022 15:42

No

Nyfluff · 15/04/2022 15:42

@hedgehogger1

No. I know healthy people who've been hospitalised or had their lives ruined by long Covid. I wouldn't be that selfish
I'm very grateful for people like you. I'm mostly bedbound with long Covid from early on and it's ruined my life, I now have lots of health issues that put me at risk from subsequent illness. Sadly a lot of people don't care or don't have the capacity to understand if they haven't experienced it themselves, including people who used to be friends.
sleepygal · 15/04/2022 15:43

Nooooooooooooo!!! Fuck sake!!!

TinselTitsAndGlitteryBits · 15/04/2022 15:45

I would.

I don't understand the dilemma, it's legal to leave your home with covid now.

SocksAndTheCity · 15/04/2022 15:45

@Choopi

Lateral flow tests aren’t free in the uk any longer. Oh Blush Where I live we have always just bought them in aldi or wherever it never occurred to me that someone would think there would be no way to tell because they had to put their hand in their pocket. Culture clash I think Smile
It must be nice to live somewhere that every single household can afford to do this.

That didn't apply here in the UK even before the household bills and food prices went through the roof, so it most certainly doesn't now.

RunnerDown · 15/04/2022 15:45

No. Because I’m a decent person.
It’s also easy to get food delivered.

SookieHouseboat · 15/04/2022 15:47

@RunnerDown

No. Because I’m a decent person. It’s also easy to get food delivered.
How will you know it’s not being delivered by someone with covid soon? They could be asymptomatic.
SexyLittleNosferatu · 15/04/2022 15:48

Yes I absolutely would.

SoftSheen · 15/04/2022 15:48

No, it would be highly irresponsible.

I would go for a walk at quiet times though, keeping well away from other people.

Hbh17 · 15/04/2022 15:48

Yes, of course. But then I wouldn't have done a test in the first place!

Ohshitiveturnedintomymother · 15/04/2022 15:49

@stayathomer

Wouid you go to the shops with a cold? Would you go to a shop with measles or shingles?
Measles no, partly because I and the kids are vaccinated against this.

Shingles? Yes I would. Kids can and regularly do go to school with shingles which is spread through direct contact so why would you isolate for this?

TinselTitsAndGlitteryBits · 15/04/2022 15:49

@GeorgieTheGorgeousGoat

I wouldn't know if I was positive anymore, no longer testing in this house.
This is a good point, we wouldn't even know in this house either!
AskingforaBaskin · 15/04/2022 15:49

I'm
In Wales and can still get the free you just have to order them online.

Thosewerethedaysmyfriend · 15/04/2022 15:51

If you don't have any other option for delivery, I would go by if you feel ill or not. So many people are asymptomatic and so many tests are not reliable. Wear a mask, go late at night and life has to go on.

muddyford · 15/04/2022 15:52

Not testing here. If had a cold I would probably wear a mask.

TurboTheChicken · 15/04/2022 15:53

No. Absolutely not. And because so many people seem to think it's OK, I don't feel like I can go to the supermarket whilst my husband has cancer treatment.

Just because it's no longer illegal doesn't make it morally right. Public health advice is still to stay home if you have Covid-19.

Puddington · 15/04/2022 15:54

I probably wouldn't but we are fortunate to have a couple of supermarkets in our town who do delivery, and family/friends who could pick stuff up and drop it off for us. Many people, particularly in more rural areas, have neither of those options.

Neverreturntoathread · 15/04/2022 15:56

No way. Why not do an online order?

Long covid is no fun, read the Mumsnet piece on it today.

ilovesooty · 15/04/2022 15:57

@TinselTitsAndGlitteryBits

I would.

I don't understand the dilemma, it's legal to leave your home with covid now.

I'll refrain I think from saying why I think you don't "understand the dilemma"
Kezzie200 · 15/04/2022 15:57

No. I will still isolate.

I understand why some might not for work purposes, if they lose pay. I'm lucky as although I would lose pay I can make my hours up anytime so wouldn't in the end.

For shopping though, no real good reason when online deliveries are available.

Jazzyjeffery · 15/04/2022 15:57

Yes because I wouldn't test anymore so how would I know?

BlancmanegeBunny · 15/04/2022 15:58

No I wouldn't ! Just as I wouldn't if I had any other kind of infection.

OverTheRubicon · 15/04/2022 15:59

@TinselTitsAndGlitteryBits

I would.

I don't understand the dilemma, it's legal to leave your home with covid now.

It's also legal to leave your home with measles or to take a child with flu into a care home, doesn't mean I'd do it though.

I'm not especially scared of covid, but when positive we did online shopping. My family lives extremely rurally and still has multiple options for delivery, which 'entire towns' are people claiming have no online or click and collect options? Shock
