Supermarket when you’re covid positive

Not to start a bunfight, I just want to know. Would you go supermarket shopping when you were testing positive?

I expect CEV is written like that because so many declare themselves CEV when actually they removed CEV status from a huge proportion of people who initially had it

CEV is also different risk to pre vax

A lot (not all) CEV are actually no longer CEV at all but anxiety prevents them accepting it

FeelingYellow · 17/04/2022 15:13

@Imlovinglife

Just about everyone has had it by now.

Anyone who is scared, they should be the ones at home, not you. We've spent enough time tiptoeing around the old/the ill/ the "CEV"/the hysterical and its time for the pendulum to swing back.

Just go.

Years on and I'm still surprised by people's selfishness.
FeelingYellow · 17/04/2022 15:18

There seems to be a "ignorance is bliss" mindset that surrounds this.
Yeah you can go to the shop with covid, but it doesn't matter because you won't see the person who ends up really poorly and hospitalised.
Or, well they could have got it anywhere couldn't they?
They absolutely could because of people knowingly going out when infectious.

Shanda5 · 17/04/2022 15:35

No. Unless I has nothing and delivery/click and collect/help from friends/family/neighbours/Good Sam/deliveroo were all unavailable. (So, no, essentially!)

For several million CEV people who are immunosuppressed, the vaccines have little effect.

You can't declare yourself CEV. The NHS calls you for your third primary dose, or writes to you to tell you you're eligible for antivirals.

"Years on and I'm still surprised by people's selfishness"

"Years on" people want to get on with their lives. Some people's have practically been suspended for 2 years. They are done with lockdowns and restrictions and tiptoeing round the sensitivities of random strangers (who probably wouldn't ever have done anything for them). We're getting on with our lives.

Other people can do what they want for whatever reason they want. If that is staying at home in a mask for the rest of your life. Fine. I'm not judging and I don't care. What you don't get to do is to keep telling others what to do. That's over. If normal people living their lives scares you - take your own measures. You don't get to swan round the supermarket yourself on your terms. It is open to everyone - and I for one will be taking advantage of that whenever I like.

What hyperbole.

the "CEV"

Do you regard CEV people in the same way you do the Loch Ness monster, or ghosts?
I was quoting another poster - I am CEV, I was questioning them putting it in inverted commas.

Doesn't scare me in the slightest. I carry on my normal life, don't wear a mask when out. I test if a certain type of poorly, make sure I'm vaccinated and sanitise regularly. Not because I'm scared, but because I've got a conscience. I'm sure id be ok if I caught it, I can't guarantee others would be.

Of course you can swan around the supermarket on your own terms. I can't and don't want to control that.

What I am saying though, is that deliberately doing something despite knowing you could cause harm, is inherently selfish isn't it?

Goodbyecustardtart · 17/04/2022 22:40

Of course not. I wouldn’t knowingly go with any infectious illness.

Excited101 · 17/04/2022 22:44

Of course not! It’s utterly selfish and unnecessary

It's necessary if you need to eat, have no food in the house and can't get a delivery/have nobody to help.

Not everyone can afford to do a weekly big shop or to fill the freezer. Some need to go out to top up gas/electricity. Some people even have no choice but to go to work when positive - including staff at the supermarket itself.

Out of interest, how much are lateral flow tests (per single or per pack)?

Colleagues who live abroad have mentioned the ease of PCR testing compared to the UK (also that they're much cheaper if you need to pay for a PCR for travel - about 20% of the UK cost), but I didn't think to ask about LFTs...
@Poppins2016 a single lateral flow test is about £2, a pack of 25 is £50. They aren't cheap cheap. People test here as required but not to the same extent as the U.K., probably because it's less prevalent here and the isolation rules are a little different and kicked in later. At certain points over the past 6 months we've probably been given 20 per child from school, 20 or so from work and around 20 per person from the government. Mask wearing indoors and outdoors is compulsory off property and borders were shut for a long time (open now) so transmission levels are much lower/slower so it's not felt like we are hugely out of pocket.

backatschool · 18/04/2022 15:26

@Poppins2016 I should add as a PS that cost of living is significantly higher here so £2 is more like 50p equivalent here.

Mirw · 18/04/2022 17:25

How selfish would that be? But so many people only think about themselves...

Yes how selfish of them to think of their selfish need for food....bastards.
SuziQuattrosFatNan · 18/04/2022 22:29

Yes, much more selfless to starve!

No of course not. I would follow the guidance.

Which guidance is this?

ThereIsNoSuchThingAsRoadTax · 21/04/2022 12:26

No, because I'm not a cunt.
