Supermarket when you’re covid positive

Not to start a bunfight, I just want to know. Would you go supermarket shopping when you were testing positive?

If there is no other choice & food is needed then yes.

Not everyone has cupboards full of food to tide them over for days.

LuckySantangelo35 · 15/04/2022 16:00

No. And anyone who does is fucking selfish. Just do an online order.
Covid is not a cold. There are no ‘long Cold clinics’ are they?! Urgh it’s not surprising we’ve been in such a mess with covid in the UK (and still are)

Theworkhouse · 15/04/2022 16:01

If I knew I had it, no I wouldn't expose other people, it's selfish.

My faith in human nature has really taken a knock in the past few years, people are so selfish now, I hadn't really noticed it before. And with the war and everything, we really are just horrible. Really horrible and selfish.

LuckySantangelo35 · 15/04/2022 16:01

@TinselTitsAndGlitteryBits

I would.

I don't understand the dilemma, it's legal to leave your home with covid now.

@TinselTitsAndGlitteryBits Lol so what if it’s legal? Does that make it right? Surely you can make your own decisions for yourself based on being a good person and not being selfish
gardenbeachsand · 15/04/2022 16:02

no.

LuckySantangelo35 · 15/04/2022 16:02

@SexyLittleNosferatu

Yes I absolutely would.
@SexyLittleNosferatu

Why?! When you could just do an online order?

SELFISH

bagsforlife20 · 15/04/2022 16:03

I would.

Ultimately it’s not the law any more so no one would be doing anything wrong. We all need to take personal responsibility to mitigate our own risk, you can’t pin it on others now

I’m young and fully vaccinated and had covid recently - it was very mild and I spent most of it without symptoms. I can honestly say that the current “living with covid” plan could realistically be like living with colds etc in society.

I didn’t go outside when I had covid. However I didn’t pass it on to my partner so it’s doubtful I would pass it on to anyone in the supermarket. I live in a city where my nearest supermarket is large (can social distance once inside and not need to speak to staff) and delivery slots were fully booked up for the next week when I checked.

These days, tests aren’t free so those with covid would have to go to a shop and buy tests before knowing if they’re positive or not. And when they find out they’re positive, they may not be in a position to self isolate or have others to look after them.

Tiredalwaystired · 15/04/2022 16:03

Not. At. All.

Case numbers still high at the hospital I work at. People are still dying in large numbers. If you think otherwise then I’m sure you also believe our “prime” minister was ambushed by a cake.

If you can’t be arsed to stay in the house and get someone else to pick you up a loaf of bread and a cornetto then you’re a selfish piece of shit. There is zero need risk the health of others in this way.

Threeboysandadog · 15/04/2022 16:03

No, I wouldn’t.

bridgetreilly · 15/04/2022 16:04

Of course not, and am horrified to think anyone would. Do online or ask a friend to help.

KosherDill · 15/04/2022 16:04

Of course not. That's the height of inconsideration for others and the public health.

bridgetreilly · 15/04/2022 16:05

Ultimately it’s not the law any more so no one would be doing anything wrong.

Wrong and illegal are not the same thing.

LivingNextDoorToNorma · 15/04/2022 16:05

I wouldn’t, because I wouldn’t need to. However not everyone is in that position. I have people who would be willing and able to drop off essentials for me, not everyone does. It’s also the case that not everyone can afford to order online. Most supermarkets have a minimum basket charge, and then you pay delivery on top. If people are on a tight budget, it’s possible they just don’t have the extra money to get a food shop delivered. Same for Deliveroo etc, prices are inflated and there’s a delivery charge on top. (And that’s assuming Deliveroo is an option at all. They do not deliver everywhere).

But when I had covid I had absolutely no symptoms. I tested positive as part of the routine, free twice weekly testing. Now that that has stopped I’d have no idea i had it if those circumstances were repeated.

What if neither of those options are available?
Dickopf · 15/04/2022 16:06

If I were really ill (which I was, with Covid), I wouldn't feel up to going to the supermarket, so it wouldn't be an issue (I couldn't get out of bed, never mind out of the house). If I had felt fine but had tested positive, I'd have carried on with my life as normal.

Manekinek0 · 15/04/2022 16:06

I have colleagues who have worked whilst positive because they can't afford the time off. It's a privileged position to be in to be able to make the decision of staying home.

WhiteCatmas · 15/04/2022 16:06

No.
You wouldn’t go shopping with chicken pox, whooping cough or for a makeup lesson with impetigo.
Selfish people.

tomatorich112 · 15/04/2022 16:06

Life needs to go on now, we have been locked up for two years. Covid is a mild cold for most, yes a small percentage will have long effect, but that true of many illnesses. Flu can kill you.

I say this as someone who followed every rule for two years, however life is more important. If you have reasons to shield, continue to do so.

You can't expect the majority of society to give up on the joys of life.
They won't, they aren't.

greenlynx · 15/04/2022 16:07

We keep a few packs of UHT milk and other things for exactly this reason. I can be really creative with cooking however if needs must one of us would go wearing a mask and sanitizing hands quickly in and out.

No. That is what online shopping is for.

DS1 tested positive a month ago. We thankfully work from home and kept DS1 and DS2 off school. DS1 is immuno compromised so the mere thought of goig out and possibly infecting other compromised people was too awful.

Selfish and abysmally stupid.

One thing Covid has done is highlight the extreme failings of our educational systems and/or the evolutionary dumbing down of the species. Superstition and "my opinion is as good as your facts" are trumping science right and left.

TinselTitsAndGlitteryBits · 15/04/2022 16:08

@LuckySantangelo35

I can, and my decision is to do what the government have implemented and learn to live with it.

Barney1234 · 15/04/2022 16:09

supermarkets have stopped paying staff if they have covid, they can stay at home and get SSP or work. Many staff will have covid but be working as they cannot afford to be ill.

TimBoothseyes · 15/04/2022 16:09

I would. All the posters saying "do an online shop", well it's not as straight forward as that. If I only needed something like bread, milk or any other staple then online isn't an option. There is a minimum spend, delivery charge, and a picking charge so the costs add up, which many people cannot justify for the sake of a couple of pints of milk or whatever, and newsflash Uber Eats, Deliveroo etc don't deliver to every part of the UK. We don't even have a takeaway delivery option where I live.
