Supermarket when you’re covid positive

GemGEmGemster · 15/04/2022 14:33

Not to start a bunfight, I just want to know. Would you go supermarket shopping when you were testing positive?

OP posts:
Sweepingeyelashes · 15/04/2022 15:28

Perhaps you could double mask.

Antarcticant · 15/04/2022 15:28

No - just had it and didn't leave the house for 11 days. Though it would have been perfectly legal for me to go and spray my virus-ridden snot all over vulnerable people, I chose not to.

bigbluebus · 15/04/2022 15:29

No, but I might do click and collect if I had no other option.

RiojaRose · 15/04/2022 15:30

It's not law that you have to help an elderly neighbour with their bins, but you can still be kind & considerate and help them .

Sure, but the selfish people who go to supermarkets while positive with covid have never helped their neighbours with their bins, or done anything for others. Therefore they have no friends or neighbours who will offer to bring them supplies when they should be self-isolating. It’s because they are fundamentally selfish that they find themselves ‘having to’ go to the supermarket with covid.

SoupDragon · 15/04/2022 15:30

I wouldn't. However, I wouldn't necessarily know as I'd only test if I was feeling unwell.

Overthebow · 15/04/2022 15:31

I wouldn’t if I was really unwell, but then I wouldn’t be leaving my house anyway.

I would if I just had mild symptoms as I’m not testing anymore so wouldn’t know if it were covid or a cold and I’m not staying in for every little cold I get.

TabithaTittlemouse · 15/04/2022 15:31

No, I wouldn’t want to put others at risk.

hedgehogger1 · 15/04/2022 15:32

No. I know healthy people who've been hospitalised or had their lives ruined by long Covid. I wouldn't be that selfish

ExMachinaDeus · 15/04/2022 15:33

NO

Why would ANYONE go to the supermarket when they know they have COVID?

The utter stupidity and selfishness of it.

KenAdams · 15/04/2022 15:35

Most people I know just aren't testing anymore so they can go about their business so the onus is on people to protect themselves. I've started wearing masks to more indoor spaces now I know this.

Choopi · 15/04/2022 15:35

Lateral flow tests aren’t free in the uk any longer.
Oh Blush Where I live we have always just bought them in aldi or wherever it never occurred to me that someone would think there would be no way to tell because they had to put their hand in their pocket. Culture clash I think Smile

ifoundthebread · 15/04/2022 15:36

Yes I would because a lot of shops are allowing staff to attend work if they're feeling well enough when positive. What difference does a customer with covid make.

bhooks · 15/04/2022 15:37

@TheFairyCaravan

No, in the same way as I wouldn’t go out with Norovirus, or the flu, or Chicken Pox either.
This!
Staffy1 · 15/04/2022 15:37

No. If I was feeling ok it would be tempting, but I wouldn’t visit my mother while I have it, so by the same reasoning I shouldn’t go to the supermarket and possibly pass it on to someone else vulnerable.

AnxiousSquirrel · 15/04/2022 15:38

Yes I would and I did

Nyfluff · 15/04/2022 15:38

I hope all these people going with to shops with Covid in masks are wearing proper N95 or FFP3 masks.

The newest dominant variant is highly contagious compared to any before it, picking a quiet time of day etc is completely irrelevant.

It's not difficult to have a few frozen meals and tins stored in the house ready. I wouldn't put other people at risk for a particular ingredient.

Itawapuddytat · 15/04/2022 15:38

Absolutely not!

torthecatlady · 15/04/2022 15:39

No, not knowingly. I would either do an online shop or ask a friend / neighbour if it was for essentials.

WTAFFF · 15/04/2022 15:39

@R00K

Yes I would and wouldn't bother with a mask either.

All these people claiming their "medical exemptions" for not wearing a mask, just in case it made them feel uncomfortable proved that most people don't give a shit about anyone but themselves.

If you can't beat them, join them and I won't feel guilty about it.

So what about those people who are vulnerable and continue to wear a mask but have no choice but to do an essential food shop.

I mean this kindly, but your attitude does not seem particularly healthy.

fiftiesmum · 15/04/2022 15:39

Most people wouldn't know if they were positive as limited access to tests. If you feel unwell you wouldn't want to go out shopping whether it is a cold or covid. For the vast majority covid is now equivalent to a cold as already had it or fully vaccinated.
I went out out when I was infected - went to work on public transport and to shops without masks but this was in the early days and only found out about having covid due to a random antibody test.
It is just so hard for the vulnerable although hopefully they are able to access tests and then rapid treatment

Mummyoflittledragon · 15/04/2022 15:40

Personally I didn’t need to and it is respectful to avoid the supermarket wherever possible. But I’m privileged in the sense that I can pay for an online shop and have existing delivery savers. People, who need to go, need to go. Wherever possible people should mask up and go when the shop won’t be busy

Claddinghell · 15/04/2022 15:40

I did it. My online shop failed to bro g cat food and other essentials. Friends at work. I went to the corner shop
With a mask. Told the shop assistant and they were good at socially distancing etc. it was quiet. Wouldn’t of gone in if busy

SookieHouseboat · 15/04/2022 15:40

If you’re not showing any symptoms why would you buy one at all? You wouldn’t.
Jules912 · 15/04/2022 15:40

No I wouldn't. I'd do a click and collect if I really had no other option. When I had it ( and DH did at the same time) we did an online shop but also had 3 friends offer to pick up bits for us (no family nearby).

BeyondMyWits · 15/04/2022 15:41

I still have to test twice weekly for work, so I knew I had it a fortnight ago. We were not to go back to work until both 5 days had passed and a negative test.

I did not enter any indoor space other than my own home until a couple of days after I tested negative. I did walk my dog.
