Supermarket when you’re covid positive

GemGEmGemster · 15/04/2022 14:33

Not to start a bunfight, I just want to know. Would you go supermarket shopping when you were testing positive?

OP posts:
lightand · 15/04/2022 15:13

The etiquette has changed a lot recently.

I was in close contact with people who had it shortly after I left visiting them.

When I told groups of people, some groups were, so what? Some were still, "dont come anywhere near". It didnt half become confusing.

Not the exact same situation as the op, but things are changing fast.

ABitBesottedWithMyDog · 15/04/2022 15:14

so few people are testing now as to make this handwringing even more pointless than it ever was

Barkingmadhouse · 15/04/2022 15:14

No

7eleven · 15/04/2022 15:14

If you can’t pay for a LFT, you won’t know whether you’ve got it or not. We can’t not go out just because our nose is running. That’s the way the Government wants it to be. Right or wrong.

WouldBeGood · 15/04/2022 15:15

Yep. I had to, no choice. Unlikely to pass it on there anyway.

NurseSeacole · 15/04/2022 15:16

NO.

rwalker · 15/04/2022 15:17

Wouldn't think twice I would go late at night say 10.30 place empty mask on and use self scan and sanitise it when finished .

MaryShelley1818 · 15/04/2022 15:18

Yes, we went to our local Lidl when we were positive. Well DH did. We have a toddler and baby and needed milk and nappies. DH wore a mask, paid contactless and went late at night. Extremely confident it was highly unlikely he'd have passed it on.
We are neither stupid nor selfish but needed essentials for our children and were unable to get them another way which was practical.

Cherryadecooler · 15/04/2022 15:19

There are so many people who aren't testing or are testing but not ill so go out that I wouldn't worry about it.

LoveSpringDaffs · 15/04/2022 15:19

@R00K

Yes I would and wouldn't bother with a mask either.

All these people claiming their "medical exemptions" for not wearing a mask, just in case it made them feel uncomfortable proved that most people don't give a shit about anyone but themselves.

If you can't beat them, join them and I won't feel guilty about it.

And what about the vulnerable people & others who HAVE been wearing masks etc, penalise them fir the fuckwits who just didn't want to wear a mask??
Lovemusic33 · 15/04/2022 15:20

I would try my best not too, though I’m getting close to having to go, I’m on day 6, still positive, single parent and struggling to get food deliveries, luckily my mum helped me today and dropped off a few things but if I’m still positive in a couple days I may have to venture out. I will go early in the morning and will be masked.

SookieHouseboat · 15/04/2022 15:21

@LoveSpringDaffs I agree with you but you’re on a hiding to nothing now. Read the replies explaining why.

PaintAndPirouettes · 15/04/2022 15:22

I'd pick a quiet time and wear a mask but I'd have to go

Some people don't understand that the delivery charges, or not being able to get yellow sticker reduced food, on top of isolation on zero sick pay, is a step too far

LoveSpringDaffs · 15/04/2022 15:23

@NameChanged15729

I would, if the government are saying it’s ok to go to work with it and are scrapping the free tests then really we need to treat it as a normal cold type illness.
It's not the Govt who end up in hospital though is it?

It's not law that you have to help an elderly neighbour with their bins, but you can still be kind & considerate and help them . Same thing.

HikingforScenery · 15/04/2022 15:23

Yes, with a mask

AndAsIfByMagic · 15/04/2022 15:24

Of course not. Why would you risk people's health?

Peppermint81 · 15/04/2022 15:24

No I am not that selfish
Online orders, friends delivering etc there is no need to put the vulnerable at risk

Choopi · 15/04/2022 15:25

I agree with you but how are you going to tell if you have it or not soon? You won’t be able to tell.

I'm not in the UK so this might be a stupid question but what do you mean? Are they banning antigen tests? Is covid mutating so that tests won't work anymore?

LovePoppy · 15/04/2022 15:26

We have zero rules where I am. I tested positive today so wouldn’t go today, but might go tomorrow depending how I feel. I’d wear a mask though.

ilovesooty · 15/04/2022 15:26

No point even responding to the likes of @R00K

No I wouldn't, if I knew I had covid, unless I had no alternative. I'd then take mitigating measures.

SookieHouseboat · 15/04/2022 15:26

I don’t think some posters are getting it. There will soon be NO WAY to tell if you have covid. You could have it without one symptom, you’ll never know now.

LoveSpringDaffs · 15/04/2022 15:28

@GemGEmGemster

No i wouldn't.

I don't think very many people don't have a single other option either. Between the various online options/friends/family/neighbours/
community help/etc

But for the incredibly few who can't find another way, then wearing a proper mask, going off peak & using wipes on keypads etc, then so be it.

But people just shopping as usual if they know they are covid positive are just selfish shits, whether the govt says you can or not.

But as a CEV I'm still avoiding supermarkets because I know a lot of selfish twats will go & beside that, so few people testing now you have to assume 1:20 are positive,

SookieHouseboat · 15/04/2022 15:28

@Choopi

I agree with you but how are you going to tell if you have it or not soon? You won’t be able to tell.

Lateral flow tests aren’t free in the uk any longer.
duskyspringfield · 15/04/2022 15:28

No way

Beautiful3 · 15/04/2022 15:28

Yes. If I needed food, I'd go. All those worried about covid should have been vaccinated by now.
