We are off to Spain next week,we have had a few weekends away since Christmas (one was a hen weekend) and we went out to dinner last night. I was on the phone to DSIL and she asked why I was so tired, I said oh we were out for dinner and drinks last night. It ended up being a later than expected night. She then said "oh and Spain on Monday... you two are getting around, is it not a bit much? Especially since you're not vaccinated! " I was just gobsmacked! I mean seriously I thought we were passed that vaccinated/non vaccinated talk...live and let live. Aibu to be p'd off!!??

@HollyBollyBooBoo

We'll never be passed it when Covid cases are still rising.

Fingers crossed you stay well.

Cases are not rising, they are now decreasing.
Sueaxlbrick · 15/04/2022 16:28

I'm sure you still have to be vaccinated when travelling from Ireland to Spain

Well in the event that you catch it and become seriously ill, or be one ill for any other reason, there is a good chance that you night actually get a hospital bed and treatment because health care systems have nanaged not to completely collapse, thanks to the vaccination program breaking the link between infection and hospitalisation.

Sundancerintherain · 15/04/2022 20:12

@orzoisorange no link, but in September last year restrictions were re introduced in mine and neighbouring provinces due to the raise in cases. Long story short, we couldn't travel, within the country in which we reside, to see a close family member or go to their funeral.

FrecklesMalone · 15/04/2022 21:34

You obviously are a bit annoying as you don't seem to understand that without vaccines we would be very very fucked and because so many people took them we are out of the shit.

HikingforScenery · 15/04/2022 21:39

Ignore her.
Yabu not to just ignore her. She sounds jealous.

Momicrone · 15/04/2022 22:20

Are you choosing not to have the vaccines because you work in pharma and know something we don't?

Sugarplumfairy65 · 15/04/2022 22:33
@BackInBlackAgain i am not in the U.K. though... Confused
You deliberately left that bit out of the op to cause drama though didn't you?

Exactly this.

The unvaccinated are freeloading off the vaxxed. May karma get them

BritWifeInUSA · 16/04/2022 06:19

She’s jealous of the traveling and socializing you do.

Why did you tell her whether you’re vaccinated or not? Do you regularly share your medical information with her?

It’s nobody’s business whether i am or not. Least of all a jealous SIL.

@NotSoYummyMummy23 - I had Covid a few weeks ago, and got off lightly compared to my vaccinated work colleagues. However, I genuinely believe it affects people in different ways, whether they're vaccinated or not.

OK, but scientific analyses -genuinely believe- have shown a statistically significant reduction in the likelihood of significant illness or death in vaccinated individuals Confused.

Well that's great news for them. For me, it was nothing more than a cold.

@NotSoYummyMummy23, but it's not just great for them, is it? It's great for everyone as it means that the NHS wasn't completely overwhelmed, and that there hasn't been an even bigger impact on critical infrastructure and services.

Alightjacket · 16/04/2022 09:16

@NotSoYummyMummy23 lovely that is was just a cold FOR YOU. For many others it was a hell of a lot more as some of them are now dead. Including my father, husbands grandfather, 3 work colleagues and 4 family friends. And many others have long covid and permanent kidney issues. No previous health issues. 188,991 deaths in the UK from 'just a cold'.

QueenoftheNimbleFlyingCat · 16/04/2022 09:20

Oh how I've missed the COVID/vax threads.

Your SIL is simply saying what many people will be thinking, assuming you've been vocal about your choice not to vaccinate as most antivaxxers seem to be Hmm

Guavaf1sh · 16/04/2022 10:22

Covid is ending and whilst it’s true that herd immunity was a big factor and yes the unvaccinated did leech off the vaccinated what are we going to do? Punish the unvaccinated? Make sure they never travel? Leave it be. We never punished the brexiteers either. Just leave it be.

If the WHO are still concerned it's still a problem.

Sosigsandwich · 16/04/2022 10:26

Absolutely not unreasonable... She needs to get a grip!

DysmalRadius · 16/04/2022 10:28

Aside from the vax debate, is Jane assumed she meant that your are taking quite a risk going out and about so much when you need a negative PCR for your holiday and don't have the protection of vaccination. Not that you're irresponsible for doing it, but that you are risking your holiday by exposing yourself to potential infection just before you go...

Yes, for me. I've not denied that people have been seriously ill from it, or worse, died.
I'm very sorry for your losses, and my heart goes out to you and your family.
I'm just speaking from my own experience and choices. It is my right, after all.

DysmalRadius · 16/04/2022 10:28

Covid is not ending. The government has ended restrictions and testing to save their own skin and keep voters. Covid is very much still a thing.
