We are off to Spain next week,we have had a few weekends away since Christmas (one was a hen weekend) and we went out to dinner last night. I was on the phone to DSIL and she asked why I was so tired, I said oh we were out for dinner and drinks last night. It ended up being a later than expected night. She then said "oh and Spain on Monday... you two are getting around, is it not a bit much? Especially since you're not vaccinated! " I was just gobsmacked! I mean seriously I thought we were passed that vaccinated/non vaccinated talk...live and let live. Aibu to be p'd off!!??

@Herejustforthisone I understand herd immunity but it is still spreading despite the massive uptake in vaccines...

Well yes, of course YABU. You have a right to make your own decision about remaining unvaccinated, but you can’t seriously expect everyone else to approve of that decision.

The vaccines were meant to stop people dying. Which they do.
They were meant to avoid serious illness (aka ending up in hospital) which they do.

Saying that they are not worth it because there are still lots of cases around and they didn’t prevent the spread is missing the point.

Having said that, not being vaccinated (so being at higher risk of severe illness) and doing a high activity (going out with people unmasked - restaurants etc…) doesn’t seem logical to me.
@Abouttimemum I work in pharma, I know how it all works...believe me!! I have had my reasons from the beginning. I actually had my first vaccine and had horrible side effects! I will not being getting any more! I wear my mask all day every day! I have worked the whole way through this pandemic...I'm entitled to a holiday if that country says I can come in unvaccinated and I can provide a negative PCR
I'm the same as you. I had the first vaccine but haven't gone any further with it. I almost felt like I was pressured into getting the first one, and then had my own personal reasons as to why I didn't get the second.

I had Covid a few weeks ago, and got off lightly compared to my vaccinated work colleagues. However, I genuinely believe it affects people in different ways, whether they're vaccinated or not.

YA most definitely NBU for not being vaccinated. Everyone in this world has their own right to decide what goes into their bodies and what doesn't. I don't disrespect or think differently of people who have decided to get vaccinated, so I don't expect to be disrespected for not getting it. It is my choice, not anyone else's.

In answer to your OP, as others have said, I think your SIL is just jealous and I would ignore her. Go and have your holiday and have a bloody good time! (And a cocktail for me! Wine)

Medical exemptions aside yabu to be unvaccinated.

gettingolderandgrumpy · 15/04/2022 13:53
@goldenbag I fail to see how if effects me if they are still spread it.
That’s fair enough op but someone was explaining why they passed comment .
It’s up to you that you don’t have to vaccinated but it’s a fair comment whatever the reason . I’d shrug it off personally!

Teddeh · 15/04/2022 14:07

It seems like she might've made the comment JUST to mention the vaccination issue? I wouldn't think dinner and drinks out on Thurs followed by travel to Spain on Monday would generally be considered "too much".

luckylavender · 15/04/2022 14:16

And you'll understand the part vaccines have played especially as you work in 'Pharma'

Sundancerintherain · 15/04/2022 14:17
Hmm
Dontevenstart · 15/04/2022 14:18

Oh dear. An anti-vaxxer. You have none of my sympathy, nor do any of the buffoons saying “well, covid’s over according to the government…”.
Stewart Lee once did a sketch about Richard Hammond, and that’s exactly the sort of people you are.
Yes. You are being unreasonable to not be vaccinated. Anything else can do one.

Or maybe going out just a few before you need to provide a negative test, so that you can go on holiday is a bit risky, risking the trip away with a positive test, being unvaccinated even more so? That's not unreasonable of SIL to point out, why risk your holiday so close to departure/testing.
Sundancerintherain · 15/04/2022 14:22

Another case of main character syndrome.

ElephantLover · 15/04/2022 14:22

@peperamimami - you seem to have missed the key point highlighted in this thread that you may not be eligible to travel to Spain.

"Under the Spanish government’s current measures, you can only enter Spain from the UK for tourism purposes if you can show valid proof of meeting the vaccination requirements set out above or a medical certificate certifying that you have recovered from COVID-19 in the last 6 months prior to travel. "

I have just come back from Italy and while it's a different country the rules are way more stringent. We've shown our covid pass atleast 15 times in a week. Entry on trains, shops, restaurants can demand this. Plus the N95 mask is to be used at most indoor places. If you have a different mask you are turned away. It feels far far more sensible than UK's approach. We had a great time in Italy despite these measures, it was as good as it can get to a pre-covid world at the moment.

I hope you make it but please check the rules.

YayitisfinallySpring · 15/04/2022 14:24

I couldn't go on a day trip to France without logging my vaccine certification in advance. No certificate, you'll be denied the crossing, was made absolutely clear. My friend's certificate wouldn't send. I had constant emails until it was sorted. How can an unvaccinated person go to Spain? Would your insurance be valid and do you want to spend your holiday in a Spanish hospital on oxygen? You are vvvv unreasonable.

peperamimami · 15/04/2022 14:27

@Dontevenstart I'm not an anti vaxxer I have had all other vaccines and so have my dc.

@YayitisfinallySpring @ElephantLover I am not in the U.K....I am not required to be vaccinated

OP posts:
zingally · 15/04/2022 14:28

I'd have called you out for the lack of vaccination as well!

catgirl1976 · 15/04/2022 14:31

You do have to be fully vaxxed to go to Spain

If you are traveling to Spain for tourism you must show valid proof of one of the following:

being fully vaccinated (with both doses of a two-dose vaccine or one dose of a one-dose vaccine) at least 14 days prior to arrival in Spain (date(s) of vaccination must be specified). See ‘If you’re fully vaccinated’.

VeganGod · 15/04/2022 14:32

I'd have called you out for the lack of vaccination as well!

I’m sure most people would just ignore you ‘calling them out’. I doubt your views mean more to them than their own. 🤷🏻‍♀️

peperamimami · 15/04/2022 14:33

@catgirl1976 I am travelling from Ireland we are not required to be vaccinated

OP posts:
VeganGod · 15/04/2022 14:33

OP has said she’s not in the UK! 🤦🏻‍♀️

catgirl1976 · 15/04/2022 14:35

Oh well. Good for you. I still think if you don't get vaccinated (medical exemptions aside) you're thick as mince and selfish. Have a good trip.

Glamora · 15/04/2022 14:47
@AlternativePerspective yes I have name changed! Not being goadie...
People name change to hide their other views..... This is nothing except goady

Otherwise you wouldn't have nc

Glamora · 15/04/2022 14:48

(I mean when NC to start a contentious thread)

toomanydogsandcats · 15/04/2022 14:48

Op doesn't sound like a very nice person. It's obvious the majority of us DO care about others, obviously we are not going to give her a pat on the back. I don't know why she would post this unless to goad. I have been to 11 funerals from Covid. It's one thing to have an opinion but to delight in stirring up other people's feelings is quite another.
