We are off to Spain next week,we have had a few weekends away since Christmas (one was a hen weekend) and we went out to dinner last night. I was on the phone to DSIL and she asked why I was so tired, I said oh we were out for dinner and drinks last night. It ended up being a later than expected night. She then said "oh and Spain on Monday... you two are getting around, is it not a bit much? Especially since you're not vaccinated! " I was just gobsmacked! I mean seriously I thought we were passed that vaccinated/non vaccinated talk...live and let live. Aibu to be p'd off!!??

She’s probably annoyed you’re willing to reap the benefits of others being vaccinated without doing your bit yourselves.
This.

⬆️⬆️⬆️⬆️ yes, this with bells on.

The great thing about this thread is how reasonable, kind and restrained the responders are, apart from the go fuck yourself person who I assume was a glive puppet (not sure if that is the right terminology, I keep wanting to say sock puppet)

toomanydogsandcats · 15/04/2022 14:52

*glove. Where the hell are my glasses...which before q7 months of lockdown peering at a laptop on the sofa, I never needed.

VeganGod · 15/04/2022 14:53

But OP is only doing what she’s allowed to do. And when it won’t change anything, what’s the point of making a comment like this to a family member.
@KosherDill how gas others being vaccinated benefitted me? They are still spreading it!
Because the extent of take up of vaccination was one of the factors leading to the lifting of restrictions. If everyone had refused you likely wouldn't be able to do these things. I uphold your right to refuse the vaccine, but its not fair to not acknowledge that you owe a lot of your freedoms to those who did. Many who would also have preferred not to, and had their reasons.
@Dontevenstart I'm not an anti vaxxer I have had all other vaccines and so have my dc.

@YayitisfinallySpring @ElephantLover I am not in the U.K....I am not required to be vaccinated
I really don’t care tbh - we’re in the middle of a global pandemic and you’ve decided to not vaccinate against yourself against the very thing that’s causing utter chaos. There’s really no getting past that fact, as far as I’m concerned.

She’s jealous.
Of being unvaccinated?

Oh wait, dohhhh you mean of the holiday haha! Ignore me. As you were 😂
toomanydogsandcats · 15/04/2022 15:27

Yeah...a crappojet flight to Spain is something to be jealous of. Come back with Emirates first class to Maldives and I may concur

ExMachinaDeus · 15/04/2022 15:28

YABU not to be vaccinated

Many people think being unvaccinated is irresponsible. I’m not vaccinated, but think travelling abroad at this time is pretty irresponsible, regardless of vaccination status. In fact I don’t travel abroad anyway due to environmental reasons. But is there any point making shitty comments to family members about any of it?

What @Dontevenstart says.

The selfishness of people who decide deliberately and for no medical reason not to be vaccinated….

No one is ‘required’ to be vaccinated in the U.K. Confused

orzoisorange · 15/04/2022 15:33

@Sundancerintherain

I live in Spain. Please dont come if unvaccinated. The rules here are strict and fully enforced & I dont want a return to full restrictions in September because of your choices.
You seem to be suggesting case rates are higher in the unvaccinated. Do you have a link to that?
MarriedThreeChildren · 15/04/2022 15:34

Btw if the reason you didn’t get the second ose is because you had a proper allergic reaction/side effects of the vaccine so having another dose in contraindicated to you, your SIL is massively unreasonable.

If it’s just that you ‘didn’t like it’ then that’s another issue.

ColdSeptember · 15/04/2022 15:35

'I work in pharma' means 'I'm a sales assistant in Superdrug', I suspect.

toomanydogsandcats · 15/04/2022 15:37

If I was a taxpayer, especially in whatever country the OP is in, I would be irritated about paying for intensive care and hospitalisation. I have full global insurance with my company but it doesn't cover anything to do with Covid, understandably so I would, if not vaccinated, burden the system.

toomanydogsandcats · 15/04/2022 15:38

Is orzo the new sock/glove puppet?

VeganGod · 15/04/2022 15:40

Lots of things use up our taxes that many could be irritated by.

Mooshering · 15/04/2022 15:46

I'd be thinking you're a twat for not being vaccinated.

KosherDill · 15/04/2022 16:00

I was surprised to have adverse reactions to my vaccinations and the third booster shot, the latter bad enough to stay home sick from work. Chills, headache, body ache, extreme malaise for several days.

Guess what? That's a small price to pay for doing one's civic duty AND personally being protected by what is a modern-day miracle of science.

Also, a robust response like that is a good sign that one's immune system is being stimulated by the vaccine.

It would never have occurred to me in a million years to let a few days' discomfort stand in the way of becoming fully vaccinated and boosted.

Do people really not understand the concept of herd immunity and of how mutations arise? Where do they think we'd be if everyone selfishly chose not to be vaccinated? Talk about only thinking of oneself and one's own comfort amid one of the most disruptive and deadly episodes of our lifetimes.

mrziggycoco · 15/04/2022 16:12

@Getoffmyshoes

She’s probably annoyed you’re willing to reap the benefits of others being vaccinated without doing your bit yourselves.
But what's the logic in this? The vaccines are risk-free and beneficial to you, right? So you wanted it either way regardless of what others do?
mrziggycoco · 15/04/2022 16:15

@MarriedThreeChildren

Well that’s your choice. But I’d have the same thought crossing my mind.

I mean nearly 2000 people died last week. That’s not as if the pandemic had completely gone yet.

Where they vaccinated?
