To think if you vote Tory now…

Joanna1988124 · 12/04/2022 21:48

You’re effectively propping up this absolute shit show of a government and have no empathy.

I’ll be honest, I’ve voted conservative before as a middle class family their (taxation) policies have suited me more than Labour. I honestly feel ashamed of this and I wish I could’ve seen that the conservatives agenda of ‘levelling up’ is BS.

Regardless of your personal situation, enough is enough now right? People are reliant on food banks, they’re choosing between heating and eating. Austerity has been a total nightmare for society causing the rich to get richer and the poor to get poorer.

@AlternativePerspective

Is that you, Boris? this line is tedious. More people vote Tory than don’t. I don’t and never will, but that doesn’t change the fact that others do.

And to be honest I don’t think there’s a credible opposition so rather than give my vote to anyone else I would prefer to spoil my ballot

Not true...

More people vote for other parties or don't vote than vote tory

lifeturnsonadime · 13/04/2022 08:48

@MarshaBradyo

Vile, my daughter is not ridiculous hyperbole.

Life don’t let it get to you. Pp are in full on abuse mode, just switch off to it. For your dd Flowers

Thank you.

I'm not letting it get to me.

I just find it absurd that people have their fingers in their ears to what the Labour Party currently stands for.

jgw1 · 13/04/2022 08:50

What I find fascinating in that clearly there has been a big operation by the Conservatives to get every Minister to come out in support in support of Big Dog and a concerted attempt to make it appear on social media as though it is not really a big deal that the Prime Minister broke the law, and that we should all move on, or perhaps blame teachers and nurses.

Wintersonata · 13/04/2022 08:53

@MurielSpriggs

YANBU. In an election if you vote Conservative you are propping up the Conservative government.
Really? I hadn’t realised that.
the80sweregreat · 13/04/2022 08:54

If there was an election looming this year the conservatives will still win it , I've never voted for them personally , but I know plenty that do and would again or who are 'shy tories' , quick to condemn , but would never vote Labour or another party either

OMG12 · 13/04/2022 08:55

And vote for whom? Labour? The only policy I know of is that women have to be subservient to the whims of men irrespective of whether it compromises their dignity and safety.

If the got in they would probably do fuck all except blame the Tories.

Last time we had what people thought was a balance Labour government they started an illegal war.

WarmWinterSun · 13/04/2022 08:58

Honestly, OP, I am completely torn. I am very angry and disillusioned with this government but they are the only party willing to stand up for the rights of biological women.

I have voted in previous elections and am not ashamed, because I believe having Corbyn as Prime Minister would have been far worse. This is ever more clear now that Russian has invaded Ukraine, given Corbyn’s history of refusing to condemn Russia for state-backed crimes.

We all vote based on the options available at the time and this context is important.

jgw1 · 13/04/2022 08:59

As predicted "but Jeremy Corbyn" has morphed into "but Boris knows what a woman is".

Good to see that the fans of the Tory party have so much positive to say about the 12 years of ruining the country that they have overseen.

Yes indeed it is far better to have a Prime Minister whose wallpaper was probably paid for by a mate of Putin's than Corbyn.
WarmWinterSun · 13/04/2022 09:00

I have voted conservative* in previous elections

Thebestwaytoscareatory · 13/04/2022 09:00

Yanbu to have realised tories are lying, self-serving shits. Yabu to think anything will change.

Tories care about two things; money and themselves. As long as those two things are not affected at the same time they're happy. They could literally have a lying, cheating, racist, homophobic, bigoted, misogynistic wanker as a leader and as long as they didn't think the poor were getting something for free or they could still afford to shop at m&s they'd vote for them.

DazzlingDarrenDring · 13/04/2022 09:01

I was always absolutely fine with people voting Conservative prior to Boris Johnson & Brexit.

Not my values, but each to their own, and lets face it there wasn't much difference between Tony Blair and David Cameron anyway.

I hated Thatcher, as any northern person should, but at least she wasn't corrupt , incompetent and a serial liar. She was a nasty piece of work, but quite open about it and the UK was not a laughing stock with her in charge. John Major was even better, I look back misty eyed on his leadership.

Now we have a lazy, corrupt, misogynistic, racist, lying bigot as our Prime Minister.

Remarkably people seem OK with this, and I can only surmise that people who still support the Conservative Party identify with these characteristics, and have no regard for the social or economic wellbeing of this country.

MojoMoon · 13/04/2022 09:06

The Tories funnelled billions of pounds to dubious companies for crappy unusable PPE and medical equipment, many of which were put in VIP lanes for access to civil servants after being recommended by Tory MPs.

They have taken millions of pounds of donations from Lubov Chernurkhin, the wife of the former Russian deputy finance minister. Yes, women can make decisions on their own but really don't try and argue she made that money through her own hard work and business acumen. She is the conduit through which Russian politicians close to Putin have paid for access to senior Tories for years.

The corruption is staggering. I don't understand why that is not higher in the public awareness.

Then there is Mohammed Amersi, a donor to the Tory party so dubious a Tory MP (Charlotte Lucas) raised the alarm - they took his donations and have looked the other way as he now tries to bankrupt her in a libel trial in revenge.
on.ft.com/3AD9zLE

They put Lebedev in the House of Lords despite security service warnings about him.

Then there is the Greensill scandal (remember that - David Cameron, the private mystery money Boris and Carrie used for redecoration

Don't say "they are all as bad as each other" - You look back on so called New Labour scandals - Peter Mandelson borrowed some money as a bridging mortgage from another labour MP and didn't declare it - and it looks positively quaint now.
Remember when Robin Cook having an affair and leaving his wife was considered a massive scandal. And look at Boris!

Can't recall the Lib Dems funnelling huge sums of public money to their mates in the coalition government either

Don't know enough about Scotland to comment on the SNP.

Even if the Tories are good for you economically - assuming you are quite rich since they are the only group they are good for - then surely even you have to look at the big picture and think that the possibility of paying a smidgen more tax is worth it not have a corrupt party taking money from dubious foreign sources in government?

jgw1 · 13/04/2022 09:08

Yes, but we all live in hope that one day we will be Boris' mate and he will funnel millions are way and that is why we vote for him.
In the meantime, at least he knows what a woman is, having shafted so many of them.

Itsbackagain · 13/04/2022 09:10

I'm in Scotland who can I vote for that has the biggest chance of getting shot of SNP?

DragonOverTheMoon · 13/04/2022 09:13

Labour needs a complete overhaul to be credible.

They'd be so far up in the polls if -

Starmer and the rest stop lying to us about female penises and take safeguarding concerns seriously. They could have a field day with whats gone on under Tory watch with self ID. Instead they dismiss concerns, tell those women they are transphobic and leave poor Duffield out to dry. How can I vote for a party that did what they did to Duffield? Labour doesn't care about womens rights anymore than the Tories, they want further erosion of our rights.

They did more community support. Where are the Labour politicians at the food banks? Not for photo ops but to genuinely help out? Why are they not building a momentum about the crisis of food and heat in our country. We don't need outrage. They could start some amazing community projects. I would if I was a politician.

I don't know if Kier is the one. He had that fake football t shirt on and doesn't look comfortable holding a pint in a pub. I have a completely made up hypotheses in my head that if a leader of a party conveys the image that they'd be up for a pint and a laugh, lots of votes will come their way. Boris unfortunately has that vibe. So did Farage and look where that got us. They need a leader who appeals to the masses a bit more.

lifeturnsonadime · 13/04/2022 09:18

I have asked several times on this thread for ONE SINGLE coherent Labour Party Policy.

At the moment the Labour Party policy appears to consist of :

  1. Anything is better than Tory Scum.
  2. Women can have penises, and all the harmful anti women consequences from that.

What has the Labour Party actually done to earn my vote?

What will it actually do to make anyone's life any better?

MojoMoon · 13/04/2022 09:22

@DragonOverTheMoon

My friends have played five a side football against Kier (while he was MP but before he was leader). He played in a local evening 5 aside league with some of his lawyer friends.

So if it reassures you, he definitely knows how to play football. My pal said Kier was in the top half of talent in a league of entirely middle aged men.

Also a fact: I have seen Kier have a pre-train pint in the Euston Tap. He appeared to be used to being in a pub (again, this was before becoming leader)

I know my local MP writes a lot about foodbanks in her weekly email and visits them etc - not sure exactly what you think they should be doing. Having an MP literally running a foodbank themselves is a pretty inefficient form of campaigning to win an election particularly if you won't let them taking any photos....

lifeturnsonadime · 13/04/2022 09:23

As predicted "but Jeremy Corbyn" has morphed into "but Boris knows what a woman is".

The problem for the Labour Party has less to do with what Boris thinks a woman is than THEIR opinion that women can have penises.

it is the Labour Party policy that is making itself unelectable, at least see this for what it actually is.

In January one political party proposed removing VAT on heating fuel, the other party opposed it.
I will leave you to guess which was which.
Theunamedcat · 13/04/2022 09:25

@jgw1

The thing is this. Boris knows what a woman is, mostly they are useful to him for a variety of purposes including to take the blame when he has done something wrong.
I would rather go back to pissing in bushes than vote for boris as for being raped in a hospital its nothing that hasn't happened to me before sharing a prison cell with a sex offender? I will try not to break the law but if I do I won't go quietly

Whereas the Tory party policy of screwing over everyone except their mates and laughing at us whilst they party on, is of course entirely electable.
DragonOverTheMoon · 13/04/2022 09:27

I don't give AF about football. He misjudged wearing a fake england top for a photo op. It backfired.

And he doesn't convey that he's comfortable in a pub. He might to you but he doesn't to me. I couldn't imagine him at ease, down the pub having a few and a laugh. It would be a quick win for him to start going to the pub and have a few photo ops and portray that image a bit more.

And I didn't say politicians need to lead the projects or not have photos. I'm saying they could start projects, visit projects and be more involved. Great if your MP does, but thats not the norm.

lifeturnsonadime · 13/04/2022 09:27

You haven't answered my question. . What I am asking is what Labour Policy is if and when they get into government.

lifeturnsonadime · 13/04/2022 09:28

Again you haven't answered my question.

I know what the Tory's are. I have no idea what the Labour Party stands for except calling people scum and saying that women can have penises.
