To think if you vote Tory now…

You’re effectively propping up this absolute shit show of a government and have no empathy.

I’ll be honest, I’ve voted conservative before as a middle class family their (taxation) policies have suited me more than Labour. I honestly feel ashamed of this and I wish I could’ve seen that the conservatives agenda of ‘levelling up’ is BS.

Regardless of your personal situation, enough is enough now right? People are reliant on food banks, they’re choosing between heating and eating. Austerity has been a total nightmare for society causing the rich to get richer and the poor to get poorer.

I don't think I'd describe Rachel Reeves as a shadow nonentity

She's been in politics for longer than Sunak and wasn't immediately parachuted into a safe seat either.

Krabapple · 13/04/2022 03:05
@SpringHasSprungYay really that’s a shame. So you have no friends who are Right wing?
I don’t think I have actually. I can’t imagine being friends with someone who thinks what’s happening at the moment (and through lockdown) is justifiable. I do on the other hand have plenty of friends who are teachers, Doctors, nurses, social workers who are severely affected by this government.

Momijin · 13/04/2022 03:16

Even the numpties who I know voted for the tories are regretting it now. If you're not extremely wealthy and you care about people, the environment, the NHS then you're extremely gullible to have voted conservatory.

EuripidesEumenides · 13/04/2022 03:20

I couldn't see myself voting Tory in my lifetime but I couldn't vote for any of the alternatives at the moment either.

Whether or not one party or the other isn't as bad doesn't particularly matter. They are still all bad.

The current selection is about as enticing as being able to choose the manner of my own execution. I'll probably stay at home next election day.

MangyInseam · 13/04/2022 03:24

@ChocolateDeficitDisorder

It baffles me that people rate Keir Starmer. When he first took over the labour leadership I thought he might have something about him, but he’s such a drip.

I'm not a Labour voter (I'm SNP), but I reckon that Starmer is going by the old maxim of 'never interrupt your enemy when they're making mistakes'.

And they are. Lots and lots of huge ones. He's waiting them out.

I really don't think that is a good strategy, if it's what he is trying to do.

Politics moves pretty quickly, he is losing any advantage he could have from many of these gaffes. Sure, he can bring up Boris having an illegal party a year from now, but it's not going to have the same effect.

But that's not the real issue anyway. It's that he's made himself completely vulnerable by being unable to back down from hugely unpopular statements and policy positions. If they'd start to talk sense on women's rights and stop demonizing working people for holding traditional leftist concerns, and maybe even talk about jobs a little, he would be golden. Even many people who often vote Tory prefer a change in the government from time to time and now seems like it is one of those times.

FOJN · 13/04/2022 03:26

What makes you think they're telling the truth this time @FOJN?confused

Telling the truth about what? Knowing what a woman is?
Labour think some women have a penis. I definitely think they're lying.

rolllan · 13/04/2022 04:14

@Momijin I would have preferred not to vote at all really. I couldn't vote for corby , if labour had a better option I would have backed that completely. I voted conservative as I still believe he was the better option. I can't understand that there hasn't actually been a decent option in years!

Somanysocks · 13/04/2022 04:19

Couldn't vote for a party who call the opposition scum and scumbags. It shows their character to throw insults in such a way.

This is a very England centric view with no concept that people outwith England have very different reasons to vote Conservative.

In Scotland, the Constitutional debate dominates and the Conservatives are the second biggest party there. If you don't want the UK to break, you are better off voting Conservative.

Independence would be austerity on stilts.

What do you hope to achieve by demonising others for their democratic choice?

Doing so contributes to the polarising of society.

SerenaVanDerWoodsenHumphrey · 13/04/2022 04:50

[To think if you vote Tory now… ] You’re effectively propping up this absolute shit show of a government ... Demonstrably true - so no, not unreasonable

... and have no empathy. Unreasonable because unsubstantiated.

I’ll be honest, I’ve voted conservative before as a middle class family their (taxation) policies have suited me more than Labour. You can't vote "as a family" in the UK, you as a person on the electoral roll voted how you voted.

I honestly feel ashamed of this and I wish I could’ve seen that the conservatives agenda of ‘levelling up’ is BS. OK.

Regardless of your personal situation, enough is enough now right? People are reliant on food banks, they’re choosing between heating and eating. Austerity has been a total nightmare for society causing the rich to get richer and the poor to get poorer. OK, and? Voting for someone besides the Conservatives (who?) addresses this how?

Sorry, but this post is a stupid mess. If the issue is sufficiently important to you, go and think it over and come back with some coherent policy suggestions.

toomanydogsandcats · 13/04/2022 05:42

Oh the irony. The vast majority of people pearl clutching now are the people who broke every rule and loudly proclaimed it was all a conspiracy. A it like eco that's who live in houses with no insulation and drive cars. Waste of oxygen.

kerrypeeper · 13/04/2022 05:58

People work hard and pay their taxes. Tax isn’t a popular vote winner and never has been. But why under a labour government should people who have studied, worked their way up the ladder, made sacrifices and tried to better themselves be penalised even more through the tax system to pay crippling taxes to “equal” things out since they already do this.

Err Ive never paid as much tax as I am now.

MintyMoocow · 13/04/2022 06:05

I will vote for an alternative if someone provides me with an alternative.
As it is, our local Conservative MP does okay so I will vote for him.

FourTeaFallOut · 13/04/2022 06:11

I'm so far beyond these sweeping statements like this. If you do ..,.., or if you vote ...., then you must be.,......

When did we stop asking questions and just start filling in all the blanks ourselves with no more interrogation required than the moral certainty of our own black and white thinking?

Suzie81 · 13/04/2022 06:16

Love the way people will hold their nose and still vote for this sorry mess of a government.

I'm not particularly anti Tory. But the current front bench is diabolical.

SpidersAreShitheads · 13/04/2022 06:16

@lifeturnsonadime - I could have written your post. Same political leanings as you, have two autistic DC, can't manage mainstream school. One DD, one DS. DS fairly high needs to oblivious to gender stereotyping - but DD very vulnerable.

Like you, I'm hugely concerned about the influence on her as a very vulnerable teen. There have already been signs that she has been swayed in an unhealthy direction but we managed to catch it in time.

I agree with everything you've written. I can't vote for a party that won't protect my child's sex based rights, or persists in telling her that they don't know what a female is.

I really like Keir Starmer but in trying to appeal to everyone he's properly screwed this up. And the less said about Angela Rayner, the better.

@jgw1

The thing is this. Boris knows what a woman is, mostly they are useful to him for a variety of purposes including to take the blame when he has done something wrong.
He might know what a women is in that context. He treats women badly. He’s not a good father either.
mellongoose · 13/04/2022 08:12

Most people are sick and tired of the puritanical opposition outrage. That, with the backing of the metropolitan luvvie media.

They know what Boris is like, warts and all are happy to stick with him. Labour have no policy or vision. All they have is outrage.

Their best bet is someone new, like Wes Streeting. That might start to make people curious. But he has a long way to go, I'm afraid.

Being guilted (forced) into voting a certain way is not how we do it in this country and shows your immaturity OP. I have good friends who vote in all directions!

Pistepersistence · 13/04/2022 08:15

I’ve voted Tory before as my politics is quite conservative.
This lot aren’t conservative, they’re elitist Etonian and out of touch. Corrupt to the core giving their mates huge contracts and taking dodgey money.
I can’t vote Labour because of their confusion about what a woman is.
I basically won’t vote.

Boris is a liar, and will say anything to stay in power. More fool people who fall for it.

Spiders Flowers

The Labour Party is doing an appalling job losing the votes of women with our backgrounds.

What's worse is that they have told us they actually don't want our vote.

At least with the Interim Cass Report for the moment our daughters, who are uniquely vulnerable, are protected.

daimbarsatemydogsbone · 13/04/2022 08:43

@Linguini

I'd still rather the Tories get in than labour right now, sorry shoot me.
I’d love too Smile

Seeing the headlines in the U.K. this morning Putin must be laughing his head off.

I wouldn't be surprised if the next time we see him he is sitting at his long table with a cake in front of him.
