How often do you wash your hair?

Frankie Bridge has said on Instagram that she's now gone 4 days without washing her hair.

I wash mine once a week - is everyone else doing it every day?! AIBU to think 4 days is nothing?

Everyday, perhaps missing Sunday some weeks

HulaTheHedgehog · 12/04/2022 22:46

Once a week is a bit grim.

Every 4 days is ... ok. I would say every 3rd day. So like 5 times in a fortnight. I do mine every 3rd day roughly. Feels grubby and icky by the 4th day if I leave it.

Suzi888 · 12/04/2022 22:50

Pretty much every evening, mostly let it dry naturally. Might plait it for a bit of a wave.

If I’m going out, as in an event I’ll do it on the day, blow dry it and curl it. It’s very long at the moment and fairly thick so takes awhile. Can’t wait to get it cut.

userxx · 12/04/2022 23:17

@GrouchyKiwi

Every second day. I used to be able to do it once a week and then we moved house, which somehow changed things. Angry

Random!

SpookySpirit · 12/04/2022 23:19

Every day but its only a short Bob so easy to manage

moofolk · 12/04/2022 23:24

Most mornings.

I shower as part of my wake up and get ready routine and wash it then.

Short hair though so doesn't take long to dry.

Jellybean23 · 12/04/2022 23:40

Once a week with shampoo but sometimes in between, a rinse in just water to freshen it. It's never greasy.

SallysEcclescakes · 12/04/2022 23:53

I'm obviously in the minority here...but I have long very thick hair, I wash it every other day, it's not a faff, I can do it in the shower and it doesn't take much time at all Star Not sure what the fuss is about having to wash it in a sink / bath and having to schedule it in. People must have seriously shit showers!

TheGrinchsDog · 13/04/2022 04:27

When my hair was long I had to wash it every 2nd day or wear it up because it is fine and went greasy quickly.
I had really dry scalp and awful dandruff.

A while back I had it cut extremely short (boy cut short) and even though it's around my ears now I can get away with once a week, sometimes just use conditioner, and it looks great! So weird! The dandruff is not nearly so bad now either.

I think I was just damaging my scalp and hair from over washing it before.

WeSellAnyBra · 13/04/2022 04:37

Roughly every 3-4 days
Day 1 - wash and blow dry & wear down
Day 2 - dry shampoo roots and wear down
Day 3 - wear up
Day 4 - wash again etc

If I wash it every day it starts to get quite dry. If I leave it any longer than 3-4 days it’s greasy as hell and doesn’t smell fresh.

grey12 · 13/04/2022 04:49

@monkeysox

Any more than a couple of days surely you smell of dirty head?!
Not really 🤷🏻‍♀️

I used to wash it every day but then read that isn't the healthiest thing to do actually (unless gym/beach/pool/actual dirt). So I started stretching it. And now I do it once a week. Wink your scalp controls oil production depending also how much it gets stripped away by shampoo: washing every day strips away more oil so more oil production! I used to have oily hair and now I don't!!!

toomanydogsandcats · 13/04/2022 05:39

Every morning and usually have a bath before bed and sleep with it wet. I don't feel clean otherwise. I use an air wrap so ot takes 5 minutes to dry in the morning. For me, baths are really important for my wellbeing

My shower's fine but I have to schedule in hair washes because it takes so long to dry. I need to be free for the hour following to dry it, or plan around it being wet for a few hours. If I want to look my absolute best I'll aim to wash it the day before, it's a bit fluffy straight after.

Massive faff for me. I can only use 1 arm
Wexone · 14/04/2022 08:29

@SallysEcclescakes yes i do have a shite shower. Live in a rental and cant do anything about it. Whoever invented the Triton T90 i would shoot them. Hate it, the thermostat is now gone in it so can barely stick 5 mins in it - either freezing cold or boiling hot. Been paying to have my hair blow dryed the past few weeks or getting a shower in my mother in laws house. My hair is long past my bra strap, very very thick, when its in a plait it measure 14cm. I have never in my life been able to take 10 mins to wash my hair, Takes forever to rinse it and then need to add conditioner too ( thick hair needs a bit) wash face and everywhere else is about 20 mins or sometimes more plus then drying it after and adding leave in conditioner etc. Even hairdressers comment on how much an effort it is to do my hair and can see why i get it blow-dried so often. One of the girls who does my hair regularly can know do my wash and blow-dry straight in 50 mins - this is a record for me. Plus they tell me as i don't wash it too often and look after it well, my hair is some of the best conditioned hair they have seen so i must be doing something right ?

Tillerman · 14/04/2022 08:33

Every other day.

Murdoch1949 · 16/04/2022 22:34

When I worked it was a daily shower/hair wash, now it’s not!

SallysEcclescakes · 17/04/2022 07:38

@AllThingsServeTheBeam
Oh come on! Obviously my comments were not aimed at someone who only has use of one arm. I'll be sure to add the unless you only have use of one arm clause to all future MN posts.

SallysEcclescakes · 17/04/2022 07:41

@Wexone
Sorry about your shit shower.
I guess I am exceptionally lucky that it doesn't matter if I turn up for work with wet hair and my hair will naturally dry in a way that I find completely acceptable (nine times out of ten).

Lulu1919 · 17/04/2022 08:00

Daily ...in the evening

Or maybe just think before you type? How about that?

SallysEcclescakes · 17/04/2022 11:11

@AllThingsServeTheBeam
Seriously, if I had been addressing you directly after you had mentioned that you only have use of one arm my comments would have been insensitive. Likewise, if we were speaking face to face and you clearly, visibly only had use of one arm.

At the moment you are taking a general comment, aimed at several people and making it about you.

I am sorry that you are offended by my finding it easy to wash my own hair.

By your standards OP was very insensitive to have started a thread about hair washing when some people don't have hair!!

soulinablackberrypie · 17/04/2022 18:04

Usually every 2 days. I don't blow-dry it or anything, it is literally just wash and go.

Fairislefandango · 17/04/2022 22:39

Every day. I have done for near40 years, whether it's long or short. I have very fine straight hair which gets greasy if I don't.

saraclara · 17/04/2022 22:51

I used to wash mine every two or three days, but gradually, due to lockdown and not seeing people, and some hairloss that make me dread washing it, the interval got longer and longer. And my hair is SO much better for it! It's much softer, and it seems to not get greasy any more. Last time, eight days had gone by, and it really didn't look greasy at all.
Instead of being frizzy and coarse, it's much shinier and softer. I wish I'd known the secret years ago
