How often do you wash your hair?

Frankie Bridge has said on Instagram that she's now gone 4 days without washing her hair.

I wash mine once a week - is everyone else doing it every day?! AIBU to think 4 days is nothing?

Every 3 days or 2

Siameasy · 12/04/2022 11:25

As little as possibly as I hate it.

cherrysthename · 12/04/2022 11:27

Every day

Gonnagetgoing · 12/04/2022 11:27

My hair is long, highlighted and coloured but also recovering from a bleach colour disaster in first lockdown so was advised by hairdresser to use shampoo, hair mask and conditioner at least once a week.

HistoricMoment · 12/04/2022 11:33

To the PP who asked about how to keep hair clean when you wash once a week : Do you live in an area with a lot of air pollution? I wash weekly and the water doesn't come off particularly dirty. I have white pillow cases and they don't look dirty at the end of a week. Maybe it's to do with the dirt and dust in the air where you live?
I brush my hair twice a day and regularly wash my hair brush in the dish washer, I also put on a head scarf when I'm cooking smelly stuff, don't know how much of a difference that makes!

emmathedilemma · 12/04/2022 11:35

I can just about stretch to once every 2 days but it will be driving me mad and itchy by the end of day 2. I often wash it every day because it gets sweaty doing exercise.

Wexone · 12/04/2022 11:37

Once a week, pre covid it would have been every 3 days or so, but during Covid i have trained it to not needs as much washing plus working from home i am ok for it to stay in a bun. My hair is very long and thick and i wear it up in a bun most days, i have got it to a stage that its in very condition aswell, sleep on a silk pillow. If i have done strenuous exercise or a long day cleaning i might need it to wash it during the week ( very rare though) My sister has very fine hair and she also managed during covid to train her hair - she used to have to wash every day, now she gets about three days - she uses dry shampoo as well. I don't find my hair getting smelly etc as some people say. If i get a blowdry in a hairdressers i can sometimes get more than 7 days out of it

I wash mine every day, but only because I've got short, straight hair and an oily scalp, so it looks much better and is easier to style if it's squeaky clean. My hair's not coloured or treated and having a short bob means frequent trims so I don't get dry ends and my hair can take a lot of washing.

However, I'm sure if I had thick, curly hair or a dry scalp, or if I had it coloured, I wouldn't be washing it every day - my mum has a very different hair and scalp type to mine, and she really only needs to wash hers once a week.

ThatBlastCameFromTheDeathStar · 12/04/2022 11:42

I have long thick hair so washing it is a bit of a mission. No way I could do it every day. I tend to do every 3 days or so. I can make it stretch to 5 days without it looking too bad but I plan around my work shifts so every 3 days fits well.

TwoShades1 · 12/04/2022 11:43

My hair is prone to oil (so is my skin). When it was long I could to 4 days by using some dry shampoo and putting in a bun, etc. now I have short hair I wash every second day as it’s harder to disguise the oiliness.

Howabsolutelyfanfuckingtastic · 12/04/2022 11:44

Once a week Grin

Allsorts1 · 12/04/2022 11:44

Was every day. Sometimes I can skip a morning wash if I’ve washed it late the night before - but will be gross by the evening so only do this if no evening plans.

Hair is long and dyed blonde. I’m a generally greasy person lol

C25kBecky · 12/04/2022 11:44

Once a week.

dearhummingbirds · 12/04/2022 11:45

Every day. I have long, fine hair, but a lot of it. My roots get pretty oily and I feel and look gross if I leave it any longer. It’s not coloured, and I’m a mid-dark blonde, so the grease can show up. I can stretch to 1.5 days - but then I’m showering in the morning, so just wash it then.

Wexone · 12/04/2022 11:46

I also want to add - i do hate it when social plans don't align with my hair washing days :)

Spidey66 · 12/04/2022 11:47

Every other day.

linerforlife · 12/04/2022 11:47

Mine is long and fine, so looks greasy easily. I wash every 2-3 days. Used to be daily because of the gym but motherhood and lockdown got me out of both the gym and hair washing habit 🤪

starfishmummy · 12/04/2022 11:49

When I had shorter hair and was working it was most days, but now I'm at home all day as an unpaid carer, so it's probably every 5 days to a week and tied back a lot of the time.

TheGlitterati · 12/04/2022 11:49

Every day or I smell like a chip fryer.

Yes I have tried training. It doesn’t work.

Been like this since I was 14.

bettertocryinamercedes · 12/04/2022 11:51

Every other day usually. I'm outside a lot and working with animals so sometimes have to do it more.

Have occasionally gone 3 days and had it in a messy bun but dh starts to sniff me and not look too impressed!!

Mine seems to collect smells from everything and I hate it smelling of cooking. Maybe that's cos it's highlighted and more porous

hydrate3546 · 12/04/2022 11:52

Once a week - and I've stopped using a hairdryer on it. My hair is now fuller and healthier than ever.

Post baby my hair was horrible, limp and ugly and I think it was the washing every other day that made it this way.

incognitoforthisone · 12/04/2022 11:52

@5128gap I wash my hair every day and so does my DP, and we get discolouration on pillow cases, so I don't think it's dirty hair that makes that happen. I used to think maybe it was skincare products but DP doesn't use any!

My theory is that it's just something to do with the chemistry of different people's sweat/oil, which is a bit gross, but just one of those things I suppose. Some makeup also tends to change colour slightly on some people (including me) because of the way it reacts with their natural skin oils, but on others it doesn't happen, so I suppose it's similar with the pillowcase thing?!

Soubriquet · 12/04/2022 11:53

Once a week here. My hair is waist long so if it takes a while to wash and dry

LadyMacduff · 12/04/2022 11:54

I have to do it every other day. Can sometimes push it to one extra day. I hate washing and drying my hair so much.

lightand · 12/04/2022 11:54

5-6 days
thought i must be the only one. as usual, turns out that i am not.

i think it is easy to think that people are different to you. But there always seems to be a silent majority going the other way.
